The Lipstick Economy Project : 30 days 30 lipsticks!

May 31, 2009 Paris B 52 Comments

Recession! Down times! Hard times! Save Money!

Hands up who’s been hearing all this lately? The current economic recession is not a myth, its a reality. But cosmetics companies may be finding a silver lining in the dark cloud of recession because of the “Lipstick Economy”.

Lipstick Economy

The Lipstick Economy theory is that in times of economic down turn, the sales of lipsticks go up because its one of the cheaper cosmetics and it still helps you look good. You can skip the eyeshadow and blush but still look pretty polished with just lipstick on. So it might be an indicator of the economic situation. (NY Times) Think of the Great Depression – women were still immaculately turned out with bright red lipstick defying the gloom and doom of the economy!

People who might otherwise spend on a luxury item or a higher priced item may cut back. Instead of spending money on collagen lip implants they can try a lip plumper at a fraction of the cost. Instead of spending hundreds of dollars or ringgit on a new dress, they may save that, but for a personal treat, buy a new lipstick. Few lipsticks exceed the RM100 mark – those that do, like the Guerlain Rouge G fall under luxury. So, if you might otherwise spend RM1000 on a new bag then spending RM145 on a new Guerlain Rouge G lipstick might be a nice substitute – you still get luxury and a treat but you save RM855 🙂

So, with the lipstick economy firmly in mind, here’s my project for June – 30 lipsticks in 30 days.

30 lipsticks 30 days

Starting June 1 until June 30 I will be featuring 1 lipstick a day of some of my favourite lipsticks, introducing others and maybe even highlighting some brand picks. I’m a lipstick girl, so this is going to be fun! 😀

New: Bobbi Brown Illuminating Bronze Collection

May 29, 2009 Paris B 6 Comments

You can tell Summer is here when brands start putting out Bronzers and have collections with the word “Bronze” in them. Bobbi Brown is no exception with the new Bobbi Brown Illuminating Bronze Collection containing a very new item – Shimmerbrick for the body!

Bobbi Brown Illuminating Bronze Collection

The new items in the Bronze Collection are:-

  1. All over Body Brush (US$85) – For the Shimmerbrick for the Body. It looks rather like a large Kabuki brush and I’m sure would feel lovely on the skin.
  2. Shimmerbrick for the Body (US$75) – I nearly fainted at the price! It is Limited Edition and features 3 shimmer stripes like the shimmerbrick for the face. It is for an all over glow on your body. Good if you like body highlights though I’m not sure when I’d ever use it.
  3. Illuminating Bronzing Powder (US$33) – There are 6 bronzing powders in this collection – Maui (pink coral bronze), Barbados (warm deep bronze), Bali Brown (golden bronze), Bahama (Deep Golden Bronze), Aruba (light golden bronze) and Antigua (light pink bronze). Named after some lovely islands and beaches of course.

Bronzers aren’t really my thing but Maui sounds nice. From the colour description I reckon it might even work as a blush. We’ll have to check it out once it gets here. I’m not sure when though.

You can read about the collection on the website here.

So tell me, would you wear the Shimmerbrick for the Body? Where would you wear it to?

If I do wear it, I’d likely just use it when I go out for dinners or when I know I’ll have soft light reflecting off my shoulders and decolletage 😉 You?

Stay beautiful,

Paris B

Look Book: Classic Eyes and Sexy Lips

May 29, 2009 Paris B 14 Comments

definite cosmetics

What are classic eyes and sexy lips? A study in contrasts of course 😛

For me, a classic eye is one done with a neutral toned shadow colours tempered with black for definition whilst sexy lips call for a red toned creamy lipstick. I used a bunch of colours from Definite Makeup Cosmetics.

Classic Light Foundation

It  being a classic sort of look, I kept my foundation light. I did not want something too thick so as to look artificial. I used the Miracle Splash Liquid Foundation (RM125) which is sheer but I liked it because it was light in texture. However, if you prefer coverage, you won’t like this. I set it with some loose powder. I’d just as easily use I Nuovi Gelbase foundation for a light sheer look. I didn’t do a very good job of concealing but what the hey! 🙂

I remember when I first tried the #antipodesskinca I remember when I first tried the #antipodesskincare Aura Manuka Honey Mask. It blew my mind away! Soothes skin. Boosts hydration and just makes you feel like you have the best skin ever! Not kidding. If you have a spot or irritated skin, it calms it down and helps get rid of your spots too. Honey is anti bacterial after all, so it’s a great multitasker.
I also love the Manuka Honey Skin brightening Day Cream. It’s light but creamy and sinks into the skin. I’ve reviewed them both on the blog in the past. If you run a search for Antipodes, you’d also notice how much I love the brand! 😁
I’m super late with this but if you’re planning to purchase any of these 3 Manuka honey items from TNS Skinlab, the code MYWSTUFF10 will give you an extra 10% off (until tomorrow 31 Dec) I highly recommend grabbing the Aura mask. You’ll never want to be without (I always have a backup!)
Thanks for the gift @tnsskinlab and I must apologise for my tardiness 😩 I’ll learn to cope better from next week!
Now I have to scuttle and write my year end musings. Some traditions must be kept! 😜

It’s my first year doing retail and honestly, I’d never been so busy! The year-end rush is unreal! But busy is good, right? At least that’s what I tell myself 😂

Place your order, and pick up in store or have it delivered.
Had a bit of breather today and put together a little video. Blink and miss my little monster 🐶 helping me shop! Not sponsored but I did receive a gift from L’Occitane, for which my sun-exposed, dry dog-walking skin thanks you!
Haven’t done any Christmas shopping this year. It has only just struck me that it’s but mere days away! 😨 Have you done yours?
