Cushion Foundation Week 3 : Round-up and overall thoughts

April 1, 2018 Paris B 20 Comments

Thus ends the Cushion Foundation Week 3 – a series I never really intended to produce, but arose out of opportunity. After my last foray into cushion foundations in Week 1 and Week 2, I was quite set in my decision. Cushion compact foundations are for me a non-essential makeup item. I still prefer my liquid foundations, or BB Creams, and I stick by my preference.

I was quite pleased in my journey, to have discovered the Sulwhasoo Perfecting Cushion because it quickly became a firm favourite of mine. It is still the only cushion foundation I voluntarily use. The others I have, I use them as and when I remember, but they aren’t items I reach out for.

cushion foundation week 3 roundup

Cushion Foundation Week 3 arose not due to my desire to own more of these cushion things, but due to the enduring nature of this form of base makeup, that I predict will be around for quite a while to come. You will notice that all of them were generously provided by the respective brands, for which I am grateful. Barring Sulwhasoo, I don’t think I’d actually buy any of them. Yet, I was glad of the opportunity to try them, because I discovered the Shiseido cushions, that I would have otherwise overlooked.

To answer the many questions and requests from many of you, who have requested for reviews of cushions from other brands e.g. Shu Uemura, YSL and Lancome, just to name a few, my apologies. My desire to accumulate more of these is really low. But if I ever come by them in the near future, who knows. Perhaps I’d do a Week 4 (God forbid! LOL! 😀 ) I think you’re sick of this as much as I am 😛

But I did notice something interesting after doing this week’s comparison, that I thought I’d share with you 🙂

Cushion Foundation Week 3 Day 6 : The brand new and improved Sulwhasoo Perfecting Cushion EX takes centrestage

March 31, 2018 Paris B 21 Comments

We’re on Day 6 and the final day of Cushion Foundation Week 3! I know I did say Cushion Foundation WEEK = 7 Days. I guess it still is a week because there’s a round-up coming up tomorrow LOL! If you missed the whole shebang, find them all here!

This week, the cushions are a mixed bag, featuring a Japanese brand, a couple of Western brands, and featuring some Korean brands too. The categories will be kept as per previous posts, so you can refer back to them all and it’ll look fairly familiar. The difference will be in the products featured. Also, I will do a round up at the end of the week, just to give closure to this week.

I thought it fitting to round off Cushion Foundation Week 3 with the brand that made me love a cushion compact foundation – Sulwhasoo. It was also the one bringing up the rear in Cushion Foundation Week 2 and I felt it was just fitting that this rounds off this marathon week of blog posts!

Why feature a product I love again? Was it just for the sake of featuring it? Well, no. Sulwhasoo has upgraded their cushion foundation formula, and have replaced their cushions with this new Sulwhasoo Perfecting Cushion EX. It was just launched early this year, 2018.

Naturally, my biggest concern wasn’t about what was new in it, but whether it would be as good as its predecessor! Sometimes, all this upgrading and revamping of products really screw with my mind! 😛

Cushion Foundation Week 3 Day 5 : The affordable Mamonde Brightening Cover Watery Cushion & Brightening Cover Powder Cushion

March 30, 2018 Paris B 3 Comments

Hello friends, and welcome to Day 5 of Cushion Foundation Week 3! Almost there! Anyone still with me?

This week, the cushions are a mixed bag, featuring a Japanese brand, a couple of Western brands, and featuring some Korean brands too. The categories will be kept as per previous posts, so you can refer back to them all and it’ll look fairly familiar. The difference will be in the products featured. Also, I will do a round up at the end of the week, just to give closure to this week. To see all the cushion foundations I’ve featured, you can go here.

Some time last year, Korean brand Mamonde released 2 new cushion foundations. I decided to cover them at the same time, because they are from the same brand, although on hindsight, I think it would have been better to separate them.

They are the Mamonde Brightening Cover Watery Cushion and the Mamonde Brightening Cover Powder Cushion. Some of you may remember that I featured the Mamonde Cover Powder Cushion in the K-Beauty edition of the Cushion Foundation Week. It was one of the more affordable options I’d tried, with very high coverage. This one is no exception. Continue Reading

Cushion Foundation Week 3 Day 4: Shiseido Synchro Skin White Cushion Compact SPF40 PA+++ for a more radiant complexion

March 29, 2018 Paris B 5 Comments

Doo-doo-doo-doo *cue the theme from Twilight Zone*

Yes folks, it is deja vu time again! On Day 1 of Cushion Foundation Week 3, I featured the Shiseido Synchro Skin Glow Cushion Compact, that I professed blew me away with how nice it was to wear. Today, we are on Day 4 of Cushion Foundation Week 3, and it is another cushion from Shiseido!

To see all the cushion foundations I’ve featured, you can go here.

shiseido synchro skin white cushion compact

Day 4 of Cushion Foundation Week 3 brings us the Shiseido Synchro Skin White Cushion Compact. This was launched in 2017 I believe, and that holographic packaging was a limited edition festive packaging that was available around Christmas 2017.

Lest you jump all over the use of the word “white”, know that it is something that is a staple in Japanese cosmetics. White or Whitening usually denotes something that targets discolouration like pigmentation, while Bright or Brightening usually refers to general radiance. I think sometimes, things get lost in translation as well, and personally, it doesn’t bother me. But used in this context of makeup, it did puzzle me somewhat as to what they are getting at.

However, it is not unusual for many brands to have a range targeted at whitening or brightening – Diorsnow, Guerlain le Blanc, Chanel le Blanc are examples. Even Laneige derives their name from “neige” which is French for snow. Granted that brands should drop this naming convention, yet it cannot be denied that there is a market in Asia for such products that stems from something very deepseated in our psyche. Such is the reality and these lines usually encompass skincare and makeup. Now, enough preaching, onto my thoughts on this cushion! 😀
