Will applying foundation with your fingers give you a better base? Step-by-step tutorial on how to use your best foundation tool

When I first started out using liquid foundation, I used my fingers to apply. I’m not sure if it was a bad colour match – I looked orange! – or poor application, but I looked awful. Hat-tip: Never try a new foundation (or new makeup for that matter) for an important occasion! My mom asked me what happened to my face, so I washed it all off and nothing was ever said of it again.

The next time I learnt how to use liquid foundation, it was with a brush. I’d experimented with using my fingers again over the years, this trick in particular was very helpful, but in the main, I used brushes. I’ve amassed a large number of foundation brushes over the years!

But recently, I found myself reverting back to using my fingers to apply foundation, and I loved it! 🙂

It started out when I was introduced to the Nars Radiant Longwear Foundation which does look best when applied with fingers, and I was sold on the idea. So, I used the same technique with other foundations, and I discovered a few things that I thought would be helpful to share.

There was a little scare among Laura Mercier fans here in Malaysia, that the brand was pulling out of the country. Well, take heart, they aren’t! It was just a change in administration, and they are here to stay. And we know that Laura Mercier is known for their base makeup – their Flawless Base, as they call it. So what better way to join the trend of high coverage, long-wearing foundation bases, than with the Laura Mercier Flawless Fusion Ultra-Longwear Foundation.

The Laura Mercier Flawless Fusion Ultra-Longwear Foundation was launched about a year ago, and you may notice the subtle change in packaging. In fact, Laura Mercier has since been rebranding themselves, and they now sport a brand new logo, with a brand new font. You will be seeing it roll out in future releases, and their bright, spanking-new stores will also sport it. More modern, more with the times.

But I had to know – were they still as strong in their base products as I remember them to be?

From the backstage frenzy of a runway show comes the Dior Backstage Face & Body Foundation

I told you before this that you would be seeing a whole bunch of foundations pop up on my blog, and you will! There’s been a spate of new foundation releases in recent times, and if there’s one makeup product that is sure to grab my attention, it’s a new foundation. Just like this Dior Backstage Face & Body Foundation.

My initial impression upon seeing the new packaging, was “Meh!” I felt that it was not representative of a luxury brand like Dior. I hold to that view. The light, plastic squeeze bottles of the Face & Body Foundation and clear acrylic packaging of the other products in the Dior Backstage range of makeup is underwhelming. It almost looks and feels like toy makeup.

But the concept behind the Dior Backstage range is interesting. Basically, Dior made this range to represent what goes on backstage at Dior runway shows. Plastic squeeze bottles, because backstage makeup artists need to be quick, and plastic is light to pack and less prone to accidents. The eye, face and lip palettes come in a variety of shades and textures, to allow for easy blending and quick changes of looks backstage. As a concept, it makes sense.

But my interest was purely fixated on the Dior Backstage Face & Body Foundation. How it is different from their other foundations?

I am an unreformed foundation junkie, always on the lookout for something new and interesting in the foundation world. And in recent times, I’ve been quite spoilt for choice! The newest one to grab my attention is the YSL Touche Éclat All-in-one Glow Foundation.

The YSL Touche Éclat All-in-one Glow Foundation is the newest YSL foundation to hit the stores, and one I’d had my eye on for a little while, ever since I stumbled on it online. I’d been messing around recently with fuller coverage foundations from NARS and Bobbi Brown, and I felt it was time to dial it back a little.

The YSL Touche Éclat All-in-one Glow Foundation promises a light-medium natural coverage, with a glowy finish and all day hydration. It sounded right up my alley! 😀
