Will applying foundation with your fingers give you a better base? Step-by-step tutorial on how to use your best foundation tool

October 19, 2018 Paris B 23 Comments

When I first started out using liquid foundation, I used my fingers to apply. I’m not sure if it was a bad colour match – I looked orange! – or poor application, but I looked awful. Hat-tip: Never try a new foundation (or new makeup for that matter) for an important occasion! My mom asked me what happened to my face, so I washed it all off and nothing was ever said of it again.

The next time I learnt how to use liquid foundation, it was with a brush. I’d experimented with using my fingers again over the years, this trick in particular was very helpful, but in the main, I used brushes. I’ve amassed a large number of foundation brushes over the years!

But recently, I found myself reverting back to using my fingers to apply foundation, and I loved it! 🙂

It started out when I was introduced to the Nars Radiant Longwear Foundation which does look best when applied with fingers, and I was sold on the idea. So, I used the same technique with other foundations, and I discovered a few things that I thought would be helpful to share.

Uh-oh my Holy Grail foundation is in danger of being dethroned by the RMK Gel Creamy Foundation

January 20, 2014 Paris B 23 Comments

A while ago, I told you that my Holy Grail liquid foundation was the Kanebo Lunasol Skin Modelling Liquid Foundation. I do still like it a lot, but I think I might have found another to dethrone it from HG status. My, my. aren’t we fickle? 😛

rmk gel creamy foundation 201

Ladies and gents, I give you the RMK Gel Creamy Foundation (not as stated in the picture which amounts to the same thing but different 😛 ) I have owned this one for a while now when I bought it as a value set together with the foundation brush that you see in the picture. But it was only recently that I fully appreciated just what a great foundation this is, especially if you have slightly drier skin. I can’t tell you how this will fare if you have oily skin so it’s something you’ll have to find out for yourself, I’m afraid, although you may prefer the regular liquid foundation.

But if you have normal to drier skin, you’ll love this! I do! 😀

Revlon Colorstay Whipped Creme Foundation, applied properly, has me whipped up into a frenzy

December 18, 2013 Paris B 40 Comments

Whipped cream makes me think of a few things – strawberries (and cream), cakes, pies… hardly foundation. Does the idea of light fluffy white moist cream bring to mind a beige coloured product you’d apply to your face as opposed to shovelling it into your tummy? I thought not!

But this is precisely what Revlon called their Colorstay Whipped Creme Makeup foundation.

Like a cream, it comes in a heavy glass jar which is really unique I thought. It might be why I picked up a tub the first time I saw it at the display shelves all those months ago. It was just too different to pass up! Wait, was this launched last year? Or perhaps early in 2013? I can’t remember anymore, but I can tell you that I’ve owned this one for a while and that I surprisingly like it!

If you’re a fan of full coverage foundation then I do believe this is one to check out. Whilst it gives full coverage, I wear it as a light-medium coverage foundation and it performs very well for me. Truly when it comes to pharmacy brand foundation, barring that error in judgement that was the Revlon Mousse foundation, I’ve thus far had nothing but success with Revlon.

Fast, Easy, Effective Liquid Foundation Application Tutorial – 5 Lines, 1 Perfect Base (Backstage Tip from Dior Makeup Artist Junior Cedeño)

May 21, 2013 Paris B 78 Comments

apply foundation tips dior junior cedeno

I love learning new and different ways to apply my foundation base. I used to use my fingers a lot, and when I was taught the super quick way of using my palm to spread the foundation on my skin, I was sold. I used this method for a long time, until I came upon the Perfect Foundation Brush. Then, it was brushes all the way for me.

I’ve shared a few Makeup Artist tips for applying foundation (Clinique, Lunasol, Estee Lauder, Dior) but here’s one from a Dior Pro-team International Makeup Artist that I just have to share by way of a tutorial, because not only is it fast, its easy and error free and importantly, gives me a beautiful base every single time 😀 Makeup Artist to the stars, Junior Cedeño applied this for me, using the Diorsnow BB Creme but I’ve since tried it with BB Cream and liquid foundation, and it works very well for both.

This is now my go-to method for applying base and if you can draw lines (doesn’t even have to be straight lines!), you will love it too! 😀
