SKINCARE TIP: If I don’t wear makeup, must I double-cleanse my skin in the evening?

January 18, 2024 Paris B 6 Comments

This is a question I get every now and then, which I answer privately. Whenever the subject of double-cleansing comes up, I am bound to be asked this – If I don’t wear makeup, must I still double-cleanse in the evening?

It’s only natural to wonder, because many people do find cleansing a chore. It shouldn’t be, because it really is the start of your skincare routine. A good skincare routine starts with a good cleanse and a good cleanser, because you should ensure that your skin is clean and ready for the rest of your skincare. There isn’t much point in spending a ton of money on the most expensive serum only to stint on your cleanser!

As to the question above, my answer, from the first day, has always been the same. Yes you do.

Getting your clean on with the affordable Beauty of Joseon Radiance Cleansing Balm

I seem to have been talking about cleansing balms before they became a mainstream product, which tells you how long I’ve been around, and how great it is that we now have so many options available to us! I even have a whole Cleansing Balm repository (which I haven’t kept as updated as I should!)

The Korean brands were quite quick to jump on the cleansing balm bandwagon, which underscores their focus on proper cleansing via double cleansing, and how quick they are to pivot to a new formula/trend.

When I bought the famed Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun sunscreen, I put a few things into my cart along with it, and one of it was the Radiance Cleansing Balm. I still double-cleanse daily, and I run through my balm cleansers like water!

What’s so bad about makeup cleansing wipes? Why shouldn’t I use them if they’re so convenient?

February 4, 2020 Paris B 8 Comments

“I use cleansing wipes to remove my makeup”

Tell this to most skincare enthusiasts, and what you’d be greeted with is an exaggerated gasp of breath, and wide-eyed horror.

“No, you don’t!” They’d exclaim in disbelief.

are cleansing wipes bad for skin

What started out as a convenient skincare product is now one of the most villified beauty products in the market. Every beauty and skincare guru worth their salt is condemning it, left, right and center. Every YouTube personality who is caught using one, is shunned and talked about in hushed tones of disgust.

But why and how did this happen? Why are makeup cleansing wipes so bad for our skin, and are they? Should we not use them at all?

When I travel I make sure that these Biore Makeup Remover Wipes go with me!

October 10, 2019 Paris B 22 Comments

Let me say first, that I’m not personally a fan of using cleansing wipes as a facial cleanser. I know they exist, and I know it is popular, because it is convenient. But I avoid it because it firstly, isn’t a proper cleanse, and secondly, it doesn’t biodegrade, so it plays merry hell with the environment.

But sometimes, needs must, as they say. Sometimes, it’s a necessary evil.

About 2 months ago, I went on a short holiday and flew a budget airline. To avoid unnecessary additional costs, we opted for just carry on luggage, so I had to strip my packing down to the bare minimum.

Being the skincare buff that I am, my skincare pouch usually takes up the most space and weight in my luggage, so I had to pare it down. Instead of bringing along liquids, I thought I’d try something different. I went and hunted in the pharmacy for handy products I could use in place of a makeup remover, and I stumbled on the Biore Cleansing Oil Cotton Makeup Remover Wipes.
