Introducing some Malaysian Cosmetics brands I have tried and liked

August 31, 2010 Paris B 31 Comments

Today’s a public holiday here in Malaysia where I’m based (in case anyone has missed that LOL!) because its our National Day or Independance Day. And in the spirit of patriotism here are some brands which are homegrown and the noteworthy items I have tried from them (in no particular order).

Do note however, that there are many more brands out there that are Malaysian owned but I haven’t tried them all. There are also a couple of brands which I have nothing very nice to say so I won’t 😛 If you know of more noteworthy local brands or products, do leave your comment in the comment box below! 🙂

The brand seems to have quietened down a little since it was launched. I’m still using the Arch it Right Brow Kit (for the awesome tweezers and brow powders) and the Magic Spell Auto Eyeliner, both of which are definitely worth taking a look into. Also consider the eyeshadow palettes – Alyssa and Smoke Gets in your Eyes are surefire recommendations from me. View availability here.

Silkygirl Cosmetics

The name is a little kiddy and so is the image, but there are a couple of hidden gems in there. The Moisture Max lipgloss isn’t bad for something that affordable, and the Funky Eyeliner pencils deserve a worthy mention.

Reminder: Have you washed your makeup brushes?

March 19, 2010 Paris B 43 Comments

Ok its all very well us chatting about makeup and sharing tips on how to apply makeup and what to use but lets take one step back and think for a moment. Have you washed your makeup brushes recently?

I thought about this one over the weekend as I dumped all my regularly used makeup brushes into the sink. It was high time 😛 Yes those are my regularly used brushes up there looking bedraggled like a wet dog 😛

In my early days of blogging, I shared with you tips on how to wash your makeup brushes and I will share these same tips with you again because its how I washed my brushes then and still do.

My brush cleaner of choice is Johnsons & Johnsons Baby Shampoo. Yes, the very same yellow liquid that has not changed since the day I was a wee child.

I keep a little bottle handy in the bathroom for the times when my brushes need cleaning. Here’s how I use baby shampoo to wash my brushe.

  • Pour some baby shampoo in the palm of your hand, add water and create a lather.
  • Swirl your brushes in the lather.
  • Rinse thoroughly, pat dry and lie flat.

I used to wash my brushes about once a week but since my acquisition of the Stage Keep it Clean Brush Cleaner, I’ve managed to stretch it out to once every 2 weeks.

Dupe Alert: Stage Pretty Nail Color dupe for Shu Uemura Egerie Pink Nail Enamel

March 10, 2010 Paris B 10 Comments

I was staring at Karen’s picture of the new Shu Uemura Egerie Nail Enamel in Pink P935 and could not help wondering where I’d see that colour before. Its quite a common sort of salmon pink shade but in my meagre nail polish collection, I knew I had something similar.

A couple of seconds later, I found it. (I told you my nail colour collection is small 😛 ) It was Pretty by Stage Cosmetics.

Pretty is a pale pearly pink shade that is sweet and young and fresh (its pinker in real life than in the picture). Nothing as in-your-face as Gorgeous is. Perfect sort of shade for a sombre work place or for a date. Well, unless you are more of the red polish sort 😉

Unlike Gorgeous, I found the formula of Pretty a little thick so it applied a little streaky. I also had a bit of a hard time controlling the brush to ensure a smooth sheer layer but I found it works better if you use a base. Then it glides on more easily and with 2 layers, you get pretty much what you see in the picture below.

What’s your nail of the day? Mine is a Gorgeous Red

February 5, 2010 Paris B 30 Comments

Let’s have a little sharing session.

What’s your nail colour of the day?

Mine is a bright bright red called Gorgeous, by Stage Cosmetics.

Stage Nail Color Gorgeous

Yesterday was the first official day of Spring according to the Chinese lunar calendar and we were encouraged to wear red – so I did. A bright red dress 😀 And to get into the spirit of things, I painted my nails red too – Stage Gorgeous Nail Color was the shade of the day.

I purchased this for RM10 during the warehouse sale a couple of months ago. I believe it retails for RM35 a bottle in store so I got a great deal yes? 🙂

I love the colour. Its a bright bright scarlet with shimmer that is truly amazing when it catches the light. Personally, I find that when wearing red nails or strong coloured nail polish, it looks better on short nails. Red polish on long nails look like bloody talons *shudder*
