Christmas Gift Guide & Best of 2009 : Smooches under the mistletoe!

December 2, 2009 Paris B 13 Comments

guide_lips

Kissing under the mistletoe! A lovely Christmas tradition 😉

Pucker up with these lovely lip products that make great gifts too! Here are my personal favourites from 2009.

Best Lip Products of 2009

I love the Dior Serum de Rouge lipstick so this is a natural choice for me if you want to treat yourself to a bit of luxury. There are 8 colors to choose from and if you’re expecting a bit of bonus from work for a job well done over the year, this is also a good way to reward yourself 🙂 Retails at RM109. Worth it! So worth it! Already 2 people have told me so! And if you get it as a gift, your friend would love you for it! 🙂

Or another glam choice would be Lancome’s Rouge Absolu lipstick – gorgeous eye catching colours to suit most skintones. A little more affordable than the Dior 🙂 or if you want something personalized try to get the Guerlain Rouge G lipstick case engraved. I believe Guerlain can arrange that for you or you can just get it done at any engravers.

On a budget? Not to worry! Bloop de Paris creamy lipstick gives you creamy lips too at a much lower price and more budget picks follow.

Have a Burlesque Ball with Stage Cosmetics Holiday collection

November 20, 2009 Paris B 30 Comments

stage_burlesque_ball eye palette and lipstick

Stage Cosmetics has come up with something interesting and might I say quite eye catching for the Holiday season – Burlesque Ball! Think Dita von Teese with a strong lip colour and strong eye colours. Burlesque gives you a chance to wear red lipstick like there’s no tomorrow!

We have here the 5 colour eyeshadow palette in Gossip which is perfect for smokey eyes and the new Stage WonderKiss cream lipstick in Racy.

Gossip has 5 colours in an easy to tote slim palette – dark navy blue, purple, metallic grey, metallic brown and shimmer white. I use 2-3 colours max to create a mean smokey eye but I find the combination I use most is the dark blue, grey and white. The look is seriously awesome and can take you from day to night depending on the intensity. I wore this most while on holiday and I find it enhances my eyes somehow.

I do find however that the colours tend towards the dark. In fact the palette reminds me of a Dior palette – I can’t place which though. So whilst it looks navy blue in the pan, its almost black on the skin. The purple barely shows up as purple and is in fact my least favourite colour although you can wear it on its own with the white to bring out the sparkles.

The brown is pretty if used on its own with the white while I love the white. It creates the most perfect highlight for the inner corners to open up your eyes and also for the brow bone. If you have overdone the darker colours, just swipe some white shadow over your lid and immediately the colours lighten in intensity.

If you want a palette that you can use to easily create a smokey eye then this might be it. I do note however that the staying power isn’t quite up to mark. I do not have oily lids but I did find the colour fading a little towards the end of the day. Nothing an eye base can’t fix but you should take note of this. I have the same problem with MAC eyeshadows and no one else does so its a case of “your mileage might vary”. I’ve got a FOTD below to show you how it all looks with Racy Wonderkiss lipstick – the reddest lip I’ve ever sported 🙂

Take to the Stage with Electra and Penelope Wondergloss

November 9, 2009 Paris B 13 Comments

Electra! I seem to think its a comic character or a character from the X-men. Does anyone want to confirm it? 🙂

stage_wondergloss

I raise this because I’ve recently been dragged kicking and screaming into trying Stage Wondergloss lipgloss. Well, ok not kicking and screaming per se since it was Buy 1 Get 1 Free at Stage Cosmetics recently 😀 I blame it all on the persuasive powers of Connie, Syen and Beetrice over drinks during my birthday brunch where they told me in not so many words that “You MUST try it! You’ll like it!”

So in the spirit of caring and sharing, 3 of us found ourselves at Stage Cosmetics one day to take advantage of the offer. I picked up the Stage Wondergloss in Electra – a lovely berry pink shade. When I got home and rooted around my drawers, I discovered Penelope hiding in a drawer all forgotten and by her lonesome.

First off, the girls were right. Stage Wondergloss is a hidden gem of Stage Cosmetics. The gloss packaging looks suspiciously like Revlon SuperLustrous glosses but the similarity stops there. Where the Revlon one comes with a doe foot sponge applicator, Stage comes with a brush. I love glosses that come with a brush – it makes for a much more precise application – hence I like the Guerlain KissKiss gloss.

Speaking of the Guerlain Kiss Kiss lipgloss, I might venture a proposal that the Stage Wondergloss might just pass off for a dupe for the Guerlain Kiss Kiss gloss. Sure, Stage’s staying power of the gloss isn’t that long – just lasting me a couple of hours with eating and drinking – and the pigmentation isn’t great, but the non sticky, non goopy and above all, non drying formula brings it very close to Guerlain. That brush applicator too brings it even closer.

I’ve swatched the 2 colours I have – Electra and Penelope.
