If you didn’t realise, the brand new year is exactly 7 days after Christmas Day and the anticipation and momentum of the festive period just keeps rolling on to that last stretch to the year. With many people usually taking time off work and just slowing down in general, it is a good time to reflect on the past year and pick out the highlights.

I don’t like doing “Best of (products)” generally. I prefer taking a more macro outlook at the year that’s past so here are my slightly different “Best of” categories, some of which of course, include beauty picks 🙂 You are most welcome to share yours too because it’s always nice to share in and take part in others’ highlights of the year.

Lunasol Velvet Purification Collection: An Overview of the Lunasol Autumn/Winter 2013 Collection

Velvet – soft, luxurious, deep colour, elegant.

For their Autumn/Winter 2013 collection, Lunasol has drawn inspiration from velvet in the Velvet Purification collection. The colours are deeper, as befits the cooler weather and the different textures combine to give you depth of colour and lustre, shifting, deepening and lightening just like a piece of velvet, gently rippling in the wind.

I don’t usually do swatches of collections but I realised that there aren’t many product swatches online for brands like Lunasol so I decided to make this the exception 🙂 I also thought I’d share some thoughts on the collection.

Honey, If it’s not you then it must be me : Skincare products that didn’t work for me

Every so often, as I go along my skincare journey, identifying my must-haves and current skincare loves, I too discard alongside the ones that didn’t make the cut or the ones that just don’t work for me one way or another. Most of the time, I don’t feature them at all. Why feature something I don’t like?

But then, I realised that it’s helpful knowing what doesn’t work for people because you can then avoid it, or if you are still very curious anyway, be aware of their pitfalls. So, unless they stand out as being spectactularly awful, in which case they will get a whole post to their awful selves, I might do some of these little round-ups as I go along, to balance out the raves I’ll have.

skincare that do not work for me

I’ll start off with a selection of skincare that I tried a few months ago and for some, I’ve been trying them off and on for months, to see if they truly do not work for me or just do not endear me to them for some reason. If they work for you, it would be helpful to know because it can help other readers make up their minds 🙂

Pure Paw Paw Papaya Ointment – S$14.90/25g

This was a gift, and while I hate to diss gifts because I know the gifter means well, this just didn’t cut it for me. What this is, is an ointment very much like the Lucas’ Papaw Ointment which is made from fermented papaya or papaw (paw paw) and has a myriad of uses to soothe, moisturise and protect the skin. I am a huge fan of the Lucas’ Papaw Ointment and because it gets a lot of flack for containing petroleum (which doesn’t bother me), I hoped I’d like this one. Sadly, I didn’t. I found the ointment far too runny even after being kept in the fridge, and the strong sweet smell put me off. I might hand it off for my nephew’s use. I don’t think he’ll be as fussy as I am 🙂

2012 Has Been Another Memorable Year : Thank you, this is for you!

Aren’t you glad that wasn’t the actual poster for 2012?! 😉 (If you don’t know what I mean, look here)

At the risk of sounding trite, “I can’t believe its already 31 December, 2012! Where has the year gone?!”

I know many of you are probably getting ready to party like its 1999… er… I mean like its 2013 😉 So this isn’t going to take too long. I’ve had a pretty good year all things considered.

But as always, here at MWS, nothing would be what it is without all of you and your contributions to the MWS Community. So just for you, as we have done in the previous years (2010, 2011), here are the highlights of 2012 based on what you enjoyed most – the posts that got the most comments and the most interaction from everyone out there. I never know what you’d like to read or what will draw you out of your shell to leave a comment but you know what? Its rarely been about the product reviews! Now that’s a thought 😉
