MWS Sneak Peek! Clarins joins in the BB Cream phenomenon

January 18, 2013 Paris B 37 Comments

clarins uv plus hp bb cream spf40 asia

Oh lookee what will be available at our local Clarins counters come March/April 2013!

Not to be outdone by the many brands who already have BB (and maybe even CC) creams in their arsenal, Clarins too will launch a product called the Clarins UV Plus HP BB cream SPF40. This will be launched under the UV Plus HP range in Asia, the sunscreen range, as it were.

Does it fascinate you? I do like the Clarins UV Plus sunscreen so I will confess this intrigues me. I have a little more info for you but will only be able to tell you more in detail in a couple of months when its out.

New! Strivectin-TL 360° Eye Serum promises lifted, younger looking eyes

January 18, 2013 Paris B 14 Comments

One of the more effective products I’d tried from Strivectin quite many years ago was the Strivectin-SD eye cream. It worked quite well for the fine lines around my eyes but as is wont to happen with me and eye creams, it fell by the wayside. I think I almost finished the tube but I never repurchased because I got slack and went without eye cream for ages. Oops! 😛

Well, there’s a new eye serum now out at the counter from Strivectin, which is the Strivectin-TL 360° Eye Serum that claims to tighten and visibly lift the sagging skin around the eye area, so eyes look younger.

I looked up some info on this, and it appears that this eye serum is targetted at those of 40 years and up, and those who have loss of firmness round the eye area, or droopy lids. Hmm… I’m not 40… yet! And I don’t think I’m experiencing droopy lids just yet so I’m not sure how effective this will be for me to try. But I’ll give it a go and see how it feels, if anything, and report back. For now, here’s a quick rundown on the product if you’d like to know more about it.

Spa Visit: So Thai Spa in Bangkok – 3 Hours of Affordable Luxury

January 17, 2013 Paris B 43 Comments

By way of explanation for my silence on the comment and email reply front, I just returned from a short trip to Bangkok so I’m catching up on everything now! 🙂 It was a trip I was supposed to have made last year but got pushed forward to this year instead. I’ll have some Bangkok tales come up later but there’s one thing people go for while in Bangkok or Thailand generally, and that is massages. Massages or even spa packages are relatively cheap by comparison to many parts of the world, even Malaysia and its so easy to find massage places. Almost every soi (street) has a few.

But this time, I wanted something different. I did not want to just pop into a random massage shop for a 1-2 hour RM30 (about US$10) foot massage, and I did not really want to have the traditional Thai yoga style stretching massage either. Based on previous experiences, some of them do more harm than good to my old bones and back. I was itching to try something different – a proper head to toe spa – so I looked around online and what do you know? My search yielded one – So Thai Spa.

I thought it interesting because So Thai Spa is also in London and they had recently opened up their Thai branch. But what got me most intrigued was that they are ranked #1 on Tripadvisor (as of January 2013) for spas in Bangkok (here). That can’t be an easy feat! The reviews on Tripadvisor sounded promising and I didn’t think their spa packages too pricey, so I bit the bullet and made a reservation!

What this meant was that I had to allocate 3 hours of my day (not hard, I’m on holiday after all!), find out how to get there (really easy) and see how the treatment went! I’m always open to other massage/spa suggestions so if you know of a good one in Bangkok, please tell me so I can visit next time! 🙂

Twins: Double the trouble or Double the fun? You decide in the Dior Twin Set Eyeshadow Pens

January 16, 2013 Paris B 36 Comments

Shadow-cum-eyeliner or cream shadow makeup items aren’t new in the makeup world. I’ve come across it in Japanese makeup and one of the most popular ones is the one from Stila, if anyone remembers that. This Spring, we see a similar cream eyeshadow-powder eyeshadow pen offering from Dior tied up nicely with a Cherie Bow 😀

dior twin set eyeshadow pen

These are the Dior Twin Set Eyeshadow pens that come in 4 shades. Its a fat pen, rather akin to that of a mascara tube, housed in sleek smooth shiny plastic. One end houses a cream eyeshadow in the form of a fat pencil and the other has a fat foam sponge applicator dipped into powder eyeshadow.

The 2 colours I have here are 060 Grey Sigh and 530 Beige Ribbon. Both are very neutral, very wearable shades and the principle behind is has a little bearing in the Dior technique of eyeshadow application. You may remember that a while ago, I shared with you some makeup tips from Dior and one of the tips was about the use of eyeliner, or a cream eyeshadow as a base for powder shadow.

This is a tip primarily to help your powder shadow stay on longer, but if you ask me, works best if you do not have oily lids. If you have oily lids, you are better served using an eyelid primer. This then, is the principle behind the Twin Set Eyeshadow pens. A handy dandy pen contraption that allows you to layer on powder shadow over cream, to achieve richer, longer lasting colour. I’ll also tell you that one of the colours work better for me than the other 😉
