How quickly (or slowly) do you dig into your new purchases?

September 30, 2010 Paris B 50 Comments

I was admiring my NARS haul that I showed you the other day. In particular, I was admiring the Tzarine eyeshadow duo. It looked so perfect with all the hetchmarks intact and looking pristine and beautiful.

I admired it for all of 10 minutes (to enable me to take the requisite photos) before I dug right into it for swatches and to try it on my eyes.

I guess I don’t have too much sentimental value for new products. On the other hand, there are very pretty palettes that the brands have been churning out in the past year that make it almost impossible to dig into.

A year ago, it was the Clarins face palette, and this year, we have had the Guerlain Cherry Blossom blush, Dior Dentelle Face powder and Dentelle eyeshadow palette, Lancome O my Rose blush and the latest Lancome La Rose Deco blush amongst others. Palettes that are so pretty, you feel awful using them because they don’t look as pretty anymore once used.

For me, I pretty much use my new stuff quite quickly, even the pretty ones, once I have the time to dig into them and enjoy them. Its not hard but sometimes I do have to close my eyes and take a swipe before my resolve falters. For me, makeup can only be truly appreciated when its used, not when its left in its pristine condition.

But if you find it hard to use a pretty palette, I do know of people who buy doubles of palettes with pretty designs. One to use and one to keep. Perhaps in their display cabinet? Hey don’t knock it – we all have our hobbies! 😀 Mine’s bags 😛

What’s your position? How quickly (or slowly) do you dig into your new purchases… if you even do? 😉

I once horrified Syen by walking out of Guardian and immediately ripping into my new lipgloss and applying it. Needless to say, I’ve since converted her to my way of thinking. *snickers*

    Hmmm… I like the Tzarine eyeshadows. ^.^ Sounds so Russian… 😉

Neways, I get to them as fast as I can swatch them or anything before the mother finds out. ^.^ And then I’ll have to hide them… 😀

*Am grateful that she does not read blogs, or I’ll be dead*

Gotta admit I got the eyeshadow partly due to its name 😉 Glad its pretty to use anyway. Aww why do you have to hide the stuff from your mom? Does she not approve?

I’m guilty of not wanting to break the beautiful surface for my beautiful things, especially those MAC powders with an overspray! I’ll be so heartbroken when its gone! 😛

I know exactly what you mean. Half the joy is in looking at how pretty they are when they are new. And I believe that’s what the companies are banking on – that we’d buy the product for being “so pretty to look at” and we do – suckers 😛

my clarins palette face palette is still untouched :p If it’s something that I don’t intend on using because it’s too beautiful, I won’t touch. if I intend on using it then I’ll start using it as soon as I can or after I’ve gotten a few photos. usually i can’t wait

OMG I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN!! o.O I’m a hoarder too! I hoard uh….paper though ^^ and skin care…since I don’t use makeup…. when i enter an arts shop, I scout for textures, weights and colours I don’t have, and buy 4 of each! 2 to use and 2 to take out and see from time to time….

I call it “hobby collecting” XD

Careful about hoarding skincare – it can stink once it expires. And paper is nice if you are the crafty sort 🙂 yes everyone has their hobbies!

I pretty much use anything straight away but there are a couple of products that still lay untouched. I’ll hav to dig into them soon. I try not too buy products with very pretty patterns or oversprays as it breaks my heart to ruin them, but if I have to, I close my eyes and take a swipe too. lol.

I’m happier if it look good on me rather than for how good it looks like in the pan. It’s just like when I buy bags and shoes etc I will not hesitate to use it for fear of dirtying them etc. My philosophy is that things are meant to be made, bought and be used. Hehe..I pretty much dig into new makeup as soon as I can. Usually within the same day I got my hands on them. Else…the next morning. Very impatient.
