For nearly 2 weeks, I’d been using a new fragrance. And during those 2 weeks, I’ve actually had 2 people ask me what fragrance I was wearing – one was male, the other was female. Its quite a strange thing to happen to me, so I had to share.
My answer is “Womanity” by Thierry Mugler.
When I say “Thierry Mugler”, hands up everyone who chorused “Angel!” Yes Angel has to be Thierry Mugler’s most popular fragrance. It didn’t work for me though and it sent my friend into sneezing fits 🙁 But I loved the beautiful star shaped bottle.
I don’t know how you’d feel about the Womanity bottle. I felt it was rather “rock chick” – metal rings, sculpture and chain in a baby pink bottle. Strong yet playful. In your face, yet subtle.
Thou art woman.
What is special about Womanity?
The scent is. If you have the chance, stop by a perfume counter and ask to take a sniff of Womanity. You won’t miss the bottle – it is distinctive and eye catching.
I like the fresh citrusy top note that brings to mind grapefruit, and I love the scent (and taste) of grapefruits. The citrus scent quickly mellows down however to one that is markedly more complex – sweet yet salty. Yep! You read right.
Salty. Not sweaty type of salty but a distinctive tang. This is because the main scent is that of figs and caviar.
I’ll be honest. I don’t quite know what caviar smells like, but I do know that it tastes a little salty, and like the sea. Imagine eating figs with the sea breeze in your face and hair on a sunlit beach.
It comes with a pouch that you can store your bottle in, if you are so minded to, because this bottle is refillable. Officially that is. I’m not sure if the refilling service is available here in Malaysia but I can safely say it will not run out that quickly.
I personally find this scent a wonderfully complex one, and I will be honest, not one for everyone. If you like scents that are floral or sweet, you might find your brow creasing when you sniff at this one.
I personally feel that its a matured scent. One for a woman, not a girl. Its a scent that you would get after having seen a bit of the world, not when you are just starting out life with wide eyed naivete.
Sniff it and see.
Here’s the official video for Womanity. The underlying theme is that women learn from each other so is this woman you?
Deep? I thought so too.
Take a sniff of Womanity. It’s pretty “deep” too 🙂

I am soooo in love with the bottle. ^.^ But getting it while still “wide eyed and naive” and using it when I’ve seen “a bit of the world” would be a dang waste, yes? HAIH… ^.^
ParisB says
Haha probably, unless you really like the scent in which case, pretend for a moment to be a woman of the world 😉

Woah… that ad is so deep until I don’t even understand a single thing about it. 😛
ParisB says
psst! same here! 😛

The design is sort of steampunk-ish. Too bad it wasn’t extended further down the bottle and made more rustic 😀 I’d be into that.
ParisB says
I did think it looked a bit top heavy but that transparent pink glass at the bottom sorta works, when you see it in person 😉

This is soooo Mugler. I used to work with the company that launched Thierry Mugler frangrances in Malaysia and Mugler was part of my portfolio. This brand will always have a special place in my heart. I must say though, I really dont like teh design of the bottle 🙂

It is certainly very unique eh? How fascinating that you were on the Thierry Mugler fragrance team here! It is certainly a very interesting and innovative brand.
Connie says
oh wow. the bottle looks wicked! not sure about wanting to smell salty though
ParisB says
Haha… its not like asam jeruk or sweaty salty. More of a hint of the sea rather than soaked in brine 😛
Connie says
hint of the sea eh? That I totally dig. But I’m not a girl, not yet a woman… I’ll stick to Britney Circus for now. While I can :p
ParisB says
Roflol!! Just stick to whatever perfume suits you and that you feel comfortable using – fragrance is very personal 🙂

Hi Paris, I quite like the scent as well! 🙂 If I don’t have a lot of perfume in my collection, I might buy it. But I’ll have to pass since it’ll take forever to finish up all my other perfume! :p
ParisB says
Haha perfume is one thing I find almost impossible to finish. I used to a long while ago when all I had was just 1… Till I found it boring 😛

Just yesterday I was looking for something unique to me. I’m a little nose-blind, so most perfumes have that certain underlying generic scent that is either typically fruity or flowery, which ends up with me finding most perfumes smell more or less the same 🙁 . But this one I tried from the test card sent my nose a-tingling in a good way! I wanted to know more of it before I made the purchase so I came home and did more review-searching. Oh boy, found out that quite a number of people found the smell to be “fishy”, or some kind of BO, or the most extreme that a few people agreed on: a woman’s menstruating private area! Sure is one heck of a controversial perfume :O ! The comments were just so extreme on both side of the fence.
I certainly didn’t get any whiff of unpleasantness or fishiness on my test card, but apparently the perfume reacts drastically different on the individual’s skin, so the test card would be misleading. I’m going to do a test-spray again but this time I’ll try it on my wrist and see if I’m still gonna love it after a whole day on me. I hope it’ll smell good with my chemistry. The scent is quite unique on its own and I’m really loving the bottle 😛
Btw, I absolutely enjoy reading your site! So many interesting articles just waiting for me to pore thru! Thank you for devoting your time writing such lovely, honest reviews and thoughts 😀
