Highlights of Instagram Vol. 6 : Baby Baby!

March 15, 2014 Paris B 16 Comments

instagram vol 6

Hello hello!

I’ve been busy beavering away on Instagram if you’ve joined me there as well and if you haven’t, why not?! LOL 😀 I try not to flood your feed and there are sometimes some interesting things that don’t make it to the “Highlights on Instagram” feature but here we are with the 6th edition of the highlights of the past 2-3 weeks.

I offer slightly more in-depth thoughts behind some of the images posted so even if you have seen these, read on. There may be some nuggets of info I missed out, and the links in here are actually clickable LOL! 😀

What’s good from Stila Cosmetics?

April 9, 2009 Paris B 15 Comments

With the Stila Clearance sale going on in Malaysia (Stila is leaving to return to the USA – no news on what’s happening in Stila USA) I thought it would be a good time to highlight some items I like from Stila and if you are lucky you might be able to pick them up at heavily discounted prices – call it a consumer service hehe… 🙂

Stila is not tops on my list of favourite brands but there are some things I like that I will be sad to see go and some things that some people really liked and made Stila the brand it was and still is.

Stila Eyeshadows are velvety smooth

Stila Eyeshadows

I like Stila shimmer shadows. The matte shadows are a bit meh in my mind but the shimmer ones are lovely and velvety smooth. The picture is from my review on Stila eyeshadows and I know you are wondering why I got Starlight when it appears as if I already have Starlight! The answer is simple – I goofed up the labelling of the colours 😛 Starlight in the picture is actually Cloud and what I called Cloud is a lovely lilac shade that has no name. Starlight is a gorgeous pink-beige with shimmer that makes a beautiful base or highlight shade. Highly recommended. Now don’t you all go clean out the counters of this color! 😉

Stila Lip Glaze is sticky but glossy

Stila Lip Glaze

The Lip Glaze by Stila has to be Stila’s most iconic prodct. The clicky pen with brush lipgloss inspired a whole host of similar style lipglosses – more so after it was highlighted that the Stila Lip Glaze was a favourite of Cameron Diaz. I saw a similar Revlon clicky pen with brush lipgloss in Hong Kong that we haven’t gotten in yet – possibly soon.

The lip gloss is thick and glossy without too much colour pay off as I previously noted but lots of girls love it. I must admit it gives a lovely sexy shine to the lips 🙂

Stila Says: Goodbye Malaysia!

April 8, 2009 Paris B 31 Comments

I got this bit of info when I got back so apologies if I’m late with the news. But Stila is saying goodbye to Malaysia.

That’s right, no more Stila in Malaysia. In fact, there have been rumblings that there may be no more Stila… period! The Stila website is down and from what I’ve read online, its been down for over 2 weeks.

News are that Stila is refinancing and trying to stay afloat instead of just going under. Not easy if no cosmetics giant picks them up, I feel. When Estee Lauder sold the brand I knew something was up – Estee Lauder will never sell a good performing brand – see MAC. And since the sale, nothing has been the same with Stila. I felt they were just floating around quite insubstantially without direction, never really making an impact for anything. It was never as exciting as it was under the helm of Jeannie Lobell. Losing the cartoon girls was a big no-no in my mind.

We’ll have to see what’s in store for Stila but for now, all Stila counters in Malaysia have gone on mega sale on all products until 30 April 2009.

Review: Stila Precious Pearl eyeshadow palette

February 25, 2009 Paris B 30 Comments

Ok, so the honeymoon period for the Stila Precious Pearl eyeshadow palette is over and its been defiled by my fat fingers 🙂 “And for the better too!” I can hear you cry because we now have swatches (picture taken with muted flash to show off shimmer).

Stila Precious Pearl palette

The Stila Precious Pearl palette is Stila’s limited edition offering for Spring 2009. I personally like the bright colours because I’m like that. However if you are just starting to experiment with colour, this might be a good palette too because you get a whole bunch of colours to play with.

What is nice about the Precious Pearl palette is the colour variety and pigment. The colours are very soft as befits Stila eyeshadows, and nicely pigmented. The swatches are swiped twice and once on the skin – nice strong pigment. Oh and they are shimmery so if you dislike shimmer, you might not like this palette much. Still, its nice soft pearly shimmer not huge chunks of glitter. The colours contain real pearl – is that a good thing?

Some Pearl trivia: Pearl powder has been used in cosmetics and for medicinal purposes primarily in China and Japan and is supposed to enhance the complexion and promote skin whitening. Pearl powder also adds iridescence and shine to eyeshadow and powders.

How does the Stila Precious Pearl palette perform then?
