Highlights of Instagram Vol. 6 : Baby Baby!

March 15, 2014 Paris B 16 Comments

instagram vol 6

Hello hello!

I’ve been busy beavering away on Instagram if you’ve joined me there as well and if you haven’t, why not?! LOL 😀 I try not to flood your feed and there are sometimes some interesting things that don’t make it to the “Highlights on Instagram” feature but here we are with the 6th edition of the highlights of the past 2-3 weeks.

I offer slightly more in-depth thoughts behind some of the images posted so even if you have seen these, read on. There may be some nuggets of info I missed out, and the links in here are actually clickable LOL! 😀

  • I’ve got a new nephew! Fiesty little Baby Y was born with all fingers and toes accounted for to my proud sibling and I now have a new baby to spoil. Whee! Hello little one! 😀
  • I hurt my wrist and made myself wear a wrist guard for a couple of weeks. The story of how I hurt is is rather embarrassing because most people thought it was either carpal tunnel syndrome or through playing games. In fact, I hurt it because I slept on it in an awkward position the whole night and woke up to a numb hand and a hurting wrist. It still haven’t healed fully but at least I’m mobile now with minimal pain. Sleeping is hazardous. Proceed with caution!
  • I received my order of a couple of affordable makeup brushes from Ecotools and Bdellium that I picked up from iHerb. I’ve washed them and am trying them out so once I figure out what I think about them, you’ll know too!
  • There’s something new coming from La Mer in the form of a lifting serum mask. I was told pores visibly disappear before your eyes after just 1 use and I have to admit that it is almost true. I have tried it just once and for a couple of days thereafter, my skin felt and looked more refined!
  • Reminded by a friend, I dug out an old Stila Precious Pearl eyeshadow palette to play with! I’ve in fact reviewed it here. I’d forgotten how nice the old Stila eye palettes were! I haven’t used most of the new Stila items since the brand got sold and re-sold. In fact, I don’t even know what’s new/good anymore. Oh and I do like the Make Up For Ever HD Liquid Foundation! It’s pricey, but I really like the effect.
  • I also had a La Mer Facial for the very first time and I am sold! It was a short version but the facial massage was incredible. I’ve never had a facial where my face was massaged so vigorously nor so efficiently and they are so generous with the product! I swear I’m going back for a full session very soon.
  • To celebrate a small win, I found myself at a large dinner buffet! Confronted with assorted cakes and sweet from the dessert section, I found myself loading up on local ‘kuih’. I’m not personally a fan of cakes nor sweets but I can never resist eating local kuih or cakes which are usually not just sweet, but have that slightly savoury or salty edge to them that appeals more to my tastebuds. What can I say? I have true blue Malaysian tastebuds! 😀
  • With the thickening haze and unusually dry weather we’ve been experiencing lately, please remember to drink more water! If you can get fresh young coconut juice, all the better!
  • Kanebo Lunasol celebrates its 15th Anniversary with a Lunasol 15th Anniversary palette. In a gold zip around compact case, you get 6 full size eyeshadows, 1 full size blush emblazoned with the 15th Anniversary logo, 1 full size powder-highlighter compact and a travel size mascara and lipgloss. The contents can be removed and the pouch reused. It is available at all Lunasol counters at RM368. I was very tempted to get it because the quality of the eyeshadow and blush were beautiful, but I realised I just don’t travel enough nor use enough of mixed palettes to justify owning this.
  • If you remember, I ran a small Masterclass event with Bobbi Brown and I think everyone who came enjoyed themselves! I’ll have a brief rundown about it for you soon, once I get the photos in, because as fate would have it, my camera ran out of battery just before it began. Sigh… Much thanks to Bobbi Brown Malaysia for the collaboration and for thrilling me by putting up the #MWSxBB hashtag reminders 😀
  • I went for a makeover at NARS a few weeks ago and the makeup artist used the Botan Brush on me to blend the colours. I was so enamoured by it, but I didn’t like how scratchy it felt. Enter the Hakuhodo Kinoko Flat brush! A dense kabuki brush with a flat top that serves the same purpose of buffing powder and blending product. It feels so soft, like bunny tails!
  • I’m a huge fangirl of Dior makeup but their recent releases have left me feeling underwhelmed with the brand. On the news of Peter Philips (ex-Chanel) taking over the helm of creative director of beauty, I felt a little apprehension. I remember Peter Philips revamping the Chanel lipsticks a couple of years ago but in terms of the makeup, Chanel remained rather insipid. I had enjoyed the bold and edgy direction Dior was taking under Tyen so I hope it won’t go the way of Chanel. I still love the products so I dug out some of my faves to enjoy – the Diorskin Nude liquid foundation, Dior Rosy Glow blush (now permanent, everyone needs one!), Dior Addict Lipstick in Icone (almost finishing!) and the 5 Couleur New Look Eyeshadow palette in Grege. All permanent, all lovely products and all worth taking a look at.

Did your fortnight go well? Can you name the local kuih pictured?

No prizes for putting a name to the kuih 😀 I’ve just made myself salivate mmm…. Happy weekend peeps!

Lovely post for a weekend read 🙂 Sorry to hear about your wrist! Poor you. I hope it gets better. A few years back, due to work hazard of performing data analysis, I had tenosynovitis (inflammation of the lining of the sheath that surrounds a tendon) on my right wrist and weeks later, followed by my left wrist. Both wrists at the same time! It was pure h3ll. I was not able to wear button up shirt as any form of bending my wrist would be excruciatingly painful. There were a few options – oral medication, surgery, wrist guard. I opted for oral medication which took a long time for the effect to kick in and wrist guard which looked odd if I wore on both wrists (good thing I bought one, wore it for half a day before I realized that I was allergic to the material!).

Congrats on the arrival of the bundle of joy! Looks so adorable. Babies are a joy 🙂 Oooh, the La Mer lifting serum mask and facial sound like paradise! Haha, I am also guilty of piling on kueh during dessert time at buffet line. The usual cake and what nots are fancy colourful stuffs with different topping – cream, icing. But the real McCoy is actually good old local dessert like pengat pisang, kueh koci, seri muka, talam…yummy!

In any case, get well soon and take lotsa water and fluid too to battle the haze. We’ll save water ration story for another day 😉 xoxoxo

Thank you Jennifer, I feel twinges now and then of pain but it seems to be getting a wee bit better. At least you can blame yours on possibly work, but it embarrasses me to tell people I injured myself sleeping LOL! I hope your tenosynovitis has healed and doesn’t come back. Such a bother and you’re so right about wearing button down shirts. My biggest problem was dealing with underwear! >.< Thanks also for your well wishes. Babies are adorable but I'm still terrified around them haha 😛 Hope your weekend went well. I can't believe we only got 1 day's respite from the worsening haze 🙁

hello little baby Y! 😀 Sleeping angel you are, based on the picture your aunt posted hehe.

Hope your wrist is feeling much better now 🙂 My mum also hurt her right wrist a few weeks ago, and she’s feeling the pinch because she can’t do much right now, need lotsa rest.

and I caved in to Dior’s addict lipstick because you love it so! And I guess I now understand what the raves are! I picked 864 Couture and am very very pleased with it. Might picked up another lighter shade tee hee.

    have a lovely weekend Paris!

Thanks Plue – yeah babies only look like angels when they’re sleeping else they’re yowling their heads off LOL! My wrist is feeling much better thank you. At least I can dress myself properly now even though it still twinges now and then if I forget. On the bright side, it stops me from carrying heavy stuff! Oh and yay for Dior Addict lipstick! I love them and every time I use them I’m reminded why I do. I don’t have Couture but you have me curious! I shall have to check it out 😀

couture is a something like a translucent cool red and when applied, it’s actually a bit more pigmented than swatched (weird I know but that’s how I see it on myself, lol!) but yet retains that translucency. it’s a a lip colour that brightens the face. I’m pretty sure you’ll look lovely with it too!

I tried the MUFE HD foundation but it’s not better than Lunasol Skin Modeling foundation. I’m still sticking with Lunasol because of the better shade match.

Ooh, my friend just had a baby recently too! I LOOOOVE onde onde but since it’s so sugary, really bad for skin and teeth. Ahhhhh! The Lunasol 15th anniversary palette looks sooo good (haven’t tried their powder highligher before) but I hardly apply any eye makeup and with my permanent red flush, no blush for me. Have you tried their mascara? Wonder if it’s better than my Fasio Ultra Curl Lock HG.

I’d agree with you Firn – the MUFE HD isn’t better than the Lunasol but I do like it nonetheless 🙂 I found it really hard to find a proper match in the MUFE HD and eventually settled for 125 which is the lightest shade. Looks scary pale on the arm but blends nicely on my skin. It stays put too which is why I like it 🙂 I haven’t tried Lunasol mascara – I have to say I haven’t been wearing mascara very much in recent times due to a combination of laziness, allowing lashes to rest and because I realised I don’t see significant enough difference in my lash length/volume 😛 I haven’t tried the Lunasol highlighter before either and I was thinking of picking up the powder/highlighter they had in Spring but the price has made me balk somewhat. I love many Japanese brands but their pricing hurts my wallet far too much for my own good so I’m staying away from beauty counters for a while. Have to channel my finances into other more worthwhile pursuits 😉

OMG I’ve been skipping mascara too because it always ends up wilting at the end of the day and smearing on my sunscreen.

Yes, I find it very hard to get a proper match outside of Lunasol. Good idea to stick with something if it’s working well for me. Yesss, that compact finishing powder that you posted awhile back is sooo tempting! I find I get a less powdery finish by using a puff to pat and roll the powder on my skin, rather than using a brush to sweep it on, which was my main beef with the RMK powder. I got a nice deluxe sample of Lunasol Glow loose powder which should last me a long time!

Congratulations on becoming aunt again! 🙂 Gorgeous baby. Take lots of photographs and videos. When you look at them again next year it never stop to amaze how different they look. 🙂 I love my local sweets too (and these days, thai desserts). Never a cake person but throw kuih at me anytime I’ll gobble them up. 🙂

Thanks Ting! You’re so right, babies change and grow so quickly! The other little nephew now looks so different from when he was born. As for desserts, kuih > cake every time for me! 😀

Popped out of my hermitage to visit the amazing Jo Popped out of my hermitage to visit the amazing Jo Malone installation at Mid Valley Megamall 😍 Jo Malone has always made gifting an experience, both for giver and receiver, and this is what their Jobots are here for - to help you find that perfect gift whether for a friend, family, or for yourself each time you manage to dodge the C-bullet 😆
Go check out the Jobots at Mid Valley Megamall Centre Court & experience their signature hand and arm massages, gift boxing, personalised engraving of your perfume bottles & candle jars & play with the vending machine. You could get lucky!
No prizes for guessing which Jobot installation was my favourite! The one with the dog of course! They also had a key chain with a dog. So. Bloody. Cute!!
And after so many years finally got a photo with event organizer extraordinaire @cyrus.chin because we didn’t get the white & beige memo and came instead in (unplanned) matching sunny coral instead 😂
It felt good to have makeup on, dress up and go out for a tiny little bit, and meet people I haven’t seen in literally years! Also to enjoy the scents (hard to smell with a mask on though) and the visual delights. Go check it out. They’re there at the Centre Court until Sunday 3 July.
