Let’s talk about that ad for Lancome L’Absolu Rouge Lipstick for Fall 2016

I came across some images for a new Lancome L’Absolu Rouge lipstick that perked me up. I don’t use much from Lancome these days, but they’re a major brand and player in the market and with Lisa Eldridge at their creative helm in recent times, it’s interested me to keep abreast of what’s going on, even if I don’t actually use any of them.

But interest in new lipstick aside, I found the promo images a little disturbing. Here’s one of them and you can find them online if you look. I found it interesting however, that the promo images aren’t as heavily promoted as they usually are. With the faces they are using, I’m surprised. Or perhaps not.

That is Penelope Cruz, gorgeous lady and a beautiful face for the brand. The lipstick she’s wearing is similarly gorgeous… as is her coat. But hello, why is she naked?!

I’m afraid that’s all I could see when I saw the images – why were the models naked … in an ad for lipstick?!

A few years ago, I attended the launch of the then brand new Lancome Genifique serum. It claimed to be able to activate the gene profile and basically activate your youth from within, and make skin (and therefore you) look younger while helping skin respond more quickly to external aggressors. While I had a very interesting insight into genes and gene therapy during the launch, and a fascinating experiment, I could not help feeling oh-so-sceptical. If this were indeed true, why isn’t this gene activator used in medical research instead of for cosmetics purposes?

Then a year or two later, the trickle-down effect led to the launch of L’Oreal Youth Code Pre-Essence on the same principles. A much more affordable option, Youth Code also talked about genes and their activation and that consumers could crack the code to younger looking skin. I remember receiving an invite to the launch for which a friend attended and reported back.

Well, I hope that as well as both products may have worked for you, you didn’t buy into the gene-cracking, youth-activating claims because as it turns out, they’re now found to be “deceptive and misleading”!

Wondering if the Lancôme Lip Lover will make me fall in love with this hybrid lip product

It’s probably not much of a secret that I’m not a huge fan of the Dior Addict Fluid Sticks. I love the colours and intensity of pigment, but the texture did not sit well with me. It was about this time that I came across many mentions of a similar hybrid lipbalm-lipgloss-lip colour product coming out of Lancome’s stables. The raves for this one was astounding and some touted them to be even better than Dior’s offering.

Naturally therefore, I had to see what the fuss was all about! 😀

The product is the Lancome Lip Lover and I was told they would be available locally in June 2014 but I couldn’t wait, so I picked mine up online about a month ago. There is quite a large range of colours to choose from and I know the expectation is for me to go for a red lip so I did, but I also chose a lighter, more neutral lip shade as well.

The 2 colours I ended up with Beige Adage 332 and Belle de Rouge 356. I can tell you off the bat that I’m not fawning over them so these are likely to be my first and last Lip Lovers, but I have also found a lip colour to love so it isn’t a total whitewash 🙂

New! Lancôme Advanced Génifique Yeux Youth Activating Eye cream at the Little Black Bottle Exhibition

A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to attend the Lancôme Little Black Bottle art exhibition which was basically artwork by 20 artists from all over the world and their perception or interpretation of the iconic Little Black Bottle, or the Advanced Genifique Youth Activating Concentrate bottle. This is one of Lancome’s bestselling products worldwide (my mom loves it!) so they wanted to have it immortalised and interpreted on canvas.

Let’s be honest. I’m no art connoisseur. I can’t even appreciate art. I won’t even pretend to, although I look like I’m concentrating really hard on the picture. I think I was thinking about whether I wanted another glass of wine 😛

What I could appreciate however, were the delicious morsels of hor d’oeuvres going around the hall as well as the very good champagne and fruit juices accompanying it. That’s dinner sorted then! 😉

But just because I’m a philistine doesn’t mean you are one too! So I’m going to show you a selection of the art interpretations for your viewing pleasure and tell you about the forthcoming Advanced Génefique Yeux Eye cream.
