New! Lancôme Advanced Génifique & Alber Elbaz x Lancôme Collection

June 7, 2013 Paris B 12 Comments

lancome advanced genifique

Are you a Lancôme Génifique user?

I remember when this was first launched here and I tried it back then. My skin didn’t take to it however, but my Mom raves about this at every opportunity. She likes the La Prairie Caviar Liquid Lift serum but if I gave her an option, she’d go back to her Génifique in a heartbeat. I know many women feel the same way.

Clearly, Lancôme knows they’re onto a winning formula when they see one, yet they saw fit to improve on it. In 2013, we see the Lancôme Advanced Génifique make its appearance. On the makeup side, Lancôme has also collaborated with Lanvin designer Alber Elbaz for a capsule makeup collection focused entirely on the eyes. Here’s a very cute video on it – tell me which iconic Lancome product he’s making over? 😉

Let’s start with Advanced Génifique.

This is an improved upon formula so youth activation is now visible within 7 days. Not just that, there’s something new about the packaging too. You know how sometimes, you just aren’t sure how much product to use, and worry if you are using too little or too much? Well, Lancôme takes that decision out of your hands.

The new dropper system is self-loading. What this means is as you twist open the cap, you don’t have to physically pump the product, it’ll be loaded into the dropper so you just pump the whole dropper into your palm. Don’t be miserly about it. This is true of all products. One pump means one pump for best efficacy.

Use 2 drops to make it last longer and you get 2 drops worth of result 🙂

Despite the improvements, my skin still doesn’t work well with Génifique. If I use it daily, it gives me little bumps on my skin that go away once I stop. I can use it sparingly e.g. once in 2 days but not daily. So, for me, results don’t show up as quickly as or well. Definitely way beyond the 7 day promise, but since my skin is fussy, there’s nothing I can do about it! Mom on the other hand is already telling me “PB, if your skin doesn’t like it, remember that mine does” So erm… yeah, Mom over to you, then! 😉

And now for the Alber Elbaz x Lancome collection. Here’s the video I promised you – its really cute!

In this capsule collection are the iconic Hypnose Doll Eyes Waterproof, Hypnose Star Eyes Waterproof and Hypnose Waterproof mascaras. I got some of the pictures online and saw there is a Definicils version too but from the press release, it doesn’t seem like we get that one. I’m not sure about the green Hypnose 5 colour palette either.

Based on what I can tell, the products aren’t new but they have been repackaged or as they say in fashion speak, redressed in some limited edition designs to celebrate this collaboration between makeup and fashion.

Are you a fan of Génifique serum? Are you using enough or do you skimp? Are you a fan of Lancome mascara?

Personally, I haven’t had a lot of luck with the Lancome Hypnose Doll Eyes mascara although I know many people love it and I haven’t tried their new eye palettes either. Anyone have?

I have used Genifique before but my skin doesn’t seem to like it. Like you, when I use Genifique, small bumps will appear on my face. I don’t believe on skimping on the amount used. If it says 1 pump, it means 1 pump. Of course, we can always use more that what is recommended.

Funny isn’t it how our skins don’t like something so many women love? But that’s the way it goes I suppose 🙂 I used to be a little more frugal with the products I use but then I realised that might be why they weren’t working! So these days, if it says 1 pump, I use 1 pump.. or more 😉

Funky covers! But I think if I were to buy the limited edition versions, I’d get the palette. The mascaras won’t last so long 😛

I bought my mom Genifique as well! She seems to like it!

I got little bumps on my skin because of that Kiehl’s Ultimate Facial Cream, and I suspect from one of my serums because I was using it every day -_-;; Took a while to go away though.

Haha I thought the same. What a waste having pretty mascara tubes that you’d have to toss out eventually anyway! Palettes will last you much longer. That Kiehl’s cream is actually far too heavy for our weather I find. I don’t even know why they sell it here -_- Sorry to hear of your bad experience but glad its gone away 🙂

No luck with any of their mascaras. 🙁 But I guess that’s not a bad thing, since they’re not exactly cheap. 😛

My mom tried a bottle of Genifique and her final verdict was, and I quote, “so-so la”. LOL. Hard-to-please lady.

I had 7 sachets of Genifique from GWP and I get tiny yellow bumps on my chin and above my lips from nightly use too. But after I stop n restart using, I didn’t get the bumps anymore and my skin texture improved, maybe because I wasn’t using any anti aging serum for quite some time already =p. I get 3 uses from 1 sachet and 7 sachets lasted 21 nights for me. The new dropper mechanism sounds interesting.

Ooh good to know it started working for you Bugs! I still can’t get it to work for me but my mom tells me her skin visibly improves when she uses it! Maybe its a matter of time before mine does too LOL! 😀 The new dropper will make it super easy to use. Just unscrew, pump and apply!

I’ve never tried Lancome’s Genefique serum but I have tried EL’s Advanced Night Repair. I like the EL better because the ingredients list is a bit more impressive to me. Plus it doesn’t contain all that denatured alcohol like Lancome’s does :/ The first time I used it (deluxe sample), I remember loving it but when I repurchased a full-size bottle, I noticed that I broke out into tiny little bumps all over my face like you did with the Genefique. I returned it, sadly. Cut to a year or so later and for some reason, curiosity was killling me–I really wanted to like it! So I have recently repurchased but I believe I am getting those tiny bumps again :/ darn it!

Yikes! So sorry EL’s ANR doesn’t work for you. Its like HG material for me 🙁 But then we can’t expect everything to work for everyone 😀

I used genifique for some time but didnt notice any effect- positive or negative. I love packaging which Alber designed but I am not really excited about Lancome… I wish he did that with Bobbi Brown or something, I would buy every single piece 😀

I think the packaging is cute too and so is the video. Lancome hasn’t impressed me much in recent times. Its like they’ve slipped back in the product development game.
