Challenges

This section of the Blog is where I show options or loosely termed “dupes” or alternatives to higher-priced products. Whether a product is a good “dupe” or whether it is deemed a budget buy depends on an individual’s budget. This will be updated as I go along, and as I come across products that may do a similar job for a smaller price tag.

Save and Splurge : Silkygirl Lipgloss and Dior Addict Ultragloss

September 8, 2010 Paris B 11 Comments

I’m very particular about the lipglosses I use. My main criteria is that they must be shiny, not sticky and preferably unscented. I found 2 at 2 different ends of the price spectrum that fit this description.

dior addict ultragloss silkygirl lipgloss

Save: Silkygirl Moisture Max lipgloss RM15.90

At the “So Cheap!!” end of the price spectrum is Silkygirl with their new Moisture Max lipgloss. Colour is sheer, texture is a tad thick but its not sticky and its unscented and imparts a good shine. You could get worse in a lip gloss of this price 🙂 Read full review here.

Save and Splurge: Clinique Vitamin C Lip Smoothie and Guerlain Essence de Gloss

August 25, 2010 Paris B 8 Comments

The line between makeup and skincare is blurring with makeup that not only helps you look good, it helps care for your skin too. One such innovation is the lipgloss that cares for your lips. I have here 2 lipglosses that claim to have lip caring ingredients in our Save and Splurge category.

clinique vitamin c lip smoothie guerlain essence de gloss

Save: Clinique Vitamin C Lip Smoothie RM66

I love this one. You can read my full review on the Clinique lip smoothie and you might like to know I’ve repurchased it, in a different colour. I like that its not sticky, has decent but light colour and best of all, keeps my lips flake free and plumped up. RM66 isn’t quite a saving, but its cheaper that the splurge option 🙂

Save & Splurge : The Powder Foundation Edition

July 28, 2010 Paris B 24 Comments

powder foundation picks

For those who like powder foundation (like I do), here are my choices from the low, mid  and the higher end of the price spectrum. I use these 3 brands interchangeably almost every day 😀

Save

Revlon Beyond Natural 2 Way Foundation (RM69)

An everyday 2 way foundation that works so well for me, I don’t even look at any other brands in the pharmacy anymore. Get it when it goes on sale and best of all, it comes in refill pans so you save even more. Read the original review here.

Save-ish

I Nuovi FaceFix UV Powder Foundation (RM98 powder RM30 case)

Yet another everyday powder I love for its (almost) flawless skin effect that it gives me. I’m on my 2nd pan already and I love travelling with this one, because it gives me a slightly better finish than Revlon but is less fragile than travelling with the Splurge option of Shu Uemura! Save & Splurge: Garnier Light Brightening Eye Roll On and Dior Capture Totale Instant Rescue Eye Treatment

July 2, 2010 Paris B 14 Comments

When I last told you about the Guerlain Anti-puffiness eye patch, I spent so much time on the floor looking for lost jaws after revealing the price, I thought I’d offer a quick (and maybe more affordable) option – hence Save and Splurge!

Save and Splurge is where I show you 2 similar items by 2 different brands that I have tried. They may not work quite the same way, but it’ll offer you options for your wallet for a similar effect/product. Do note however, that it is based on products I have tried, so whilst there are many save and splurge options out there, these are my views. You can find them under the category of Challenges.

Taking my cue from the Guerlain eye patch, we start with eye treatments.

Save: Garnier Light Brightening Eye Roll on (RM21.90)

So many people love this and its pretty affordable too because you can get it on sale. The Garnier Roll On rolls on the eye area and cools it down. It does not deflate my eye bags as quickly as the Guerlain patches did but it feels lovely on.

Roll it on, pat off the excess and relax. Other than the lovely cooling effect on my eye area, it didn’t do much for me in terms of reducing eye bags, or dark circles.
