Challenges

This section of the Blog is where I show options or loosely termed “dupes” or alternatives to higher-priced products. Whether a product is a good “dupe” or whether it is deemed a budget buy depends on an individual’s budget. This will be updated as I go along, and as I come across products that may do a similar job for a smaller price tag.

Save and Splurge: Hair Treatment Oils or Serums for Frizzy Hair

December 8, 2011 Paris B 25 Comments

Yesterday, for the first time in a very long time, I took out my bottle of MoroccanOil Oil Treatment to use. As I noted in an earlier review, this oil was great for my hair in a very cold environment, but here in this hot humid Malaysian weather, it quickly weighed my hair down with daily use. However, my hair has been feeling unnaturally frizzy of late and this oil tamed it down a treat. No more lion’s mane! It was when I was looking at the small range of hair treatment oils on my dresser and realised just how they fell nicely into different price ranges – Save and Splurge time! 😀

I must say here that I don’t take very good care of my hair. Yeah like nails, if beauty blogging was judged on us being all rounded polished from head to toenails, boy! am I a failure 😛  But we’re not – yay! 😀 So I’m a shampoo and conditioner gal and off and on, I slap on a hair mask (usually one of the anti-frizz ones from different price spectrums). However, I blow dry my hair most evenings so it looks nice the next morning so a hair treatment oil helps keep frizzies at bay, and keeps hair from drying out too much.

Here are my top picks from different price spectrums 😀

Save and Splurge: The Luxury Quilted Bag Edition

November 27, 2011 Paris B 28 Comments

I usually run the Save and Splurge edition for cosmetics and skincare but when I came across these two I just had to run a special version because I was struck by both bags… and I do rather like both if I don’t say so myself 🙂

Save and Splurge: Powder Blush Duos From Different Ends Of The Price Spectrum

September 19, 2011 Paris B 19 Comments

A couple of weeks back, I showed you the Canmake Cheek & Cheek Blush Duos and told you that they reminded me of the blushes from a certain high end brand. No one attempted to guess it, strangely enough 😉

Well, the brand I was thinking of is Dior. The Diorblush to be exact.

Here are some similar looking palettes put side by side. Don’t you think they look remarkably similar? Similar enough for me to come up with yet another edition of Save and Splurge! 😀

Luxury Lipstick Face-off: Chanel Rouge Coco Shine vs Dior Addict (new) vs Guerlain Rouge Automatique

June 1, 2011 Paris B 51 Comments

When I noticed the similarity between the Chanel Rouge Coco Shine lipsticks and the new Dior Addict lipsticks, I guess I wasn’t the only one. Being released so close to each other, and boasting similar textures, there is bound to be some comparisons to be made between the two. Incidentally, I’ve gotten a few enquiries so what better time to run a quick comparison eh? 😉

To be honest, I’m just throwing in the Guerlain Rouge Automatique for confusion haha! The real comparison here is between Chanel Rouge Coco Shine and the new Dior Addict lipsticks, and which I prefer (which may not necessarily be the same as what you prefer). My comparison was based on packaging, texture, lasting power and price.

Packaging

My vote goes to Chanel on this one. I like the sleek simple packaging of the Chanel lipstick tubes. Always have, and probably always will. Dior’s futuristic looking tube looks a bit plain and bulkier whilst Guerlain’s just a tad gimmicky for me. Of the 3, the Chanel lipstick has the best heft and feels the most solid. Guerlain’s the lightest.
