End of an icon: Yves Saint Laurent to become Saint Laurent Paris

The biggest news to rock the fashion world this week is the very dramatic potential change in name of one of fashion’s biggest houses – Yves Saint Laurent, popularly known as YSL. The new creative director Hedi Slimane has announced that the iconic name will be no more come the Spring 2013 show in September this year.

Yves Saint Laurent will then be known as Saint Laurent Paris.

I’m not the most fashion savvy person out there, but even I am aware of the history behind the name of one of fashion’s most famous designers who came up in the House of Dior and was once the Head Designer in Dior before being fired. Reading the history of Yves Saint Laurent is interesting and pretty sensational 😀

But history aside, this change of name is really something quite big although I’m not quite sure that SLP has the same ring to it as YSL, does it? What say you?

Scrumptious Saturday Vol. 14 : Rice Dumpling Season (Dragon Boat Festival)

Today is the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, which happens to be the Dragon Boat festival or Rice Dumpling (zong zi, bak chang) festival because traditionally, it is at this period that we see these delicious packages appear. Traditionally. These days, these rice dumplings can be found the whole year round. Sort of makes them less special 😛

Still, I don’t eat them often, because I’m a bit of a traditionalist (and I’m not that much of a fan of commercial ones 😛 ) I grew up with my late grandmother’s rice dumplings which were to me, the best I’d ever had (every family will have a similar story I’m sure!) Each pyramid package was chockfull of goodies – braised meat, mushrooms, chestnuts, dried oysters… just barely held together with glutinous rice and wrapped in bamboo leaves, then boiled for hours to cook.

Ooh my eyes! Let me put on my sunnies 🙂

Those were my reactions when I took the Dior Vernis in Acapulco out of its box. Seriously, that bottle could almost glow in the dark. It doesn’t, but wouldn’t it be cool if it did? 😀

Acapulco is one of 4 Dior Vernis shades in the Summer Mix nail and lip collection. I just had to try this on for size because I’ve never worn yellow on my nails before.

Sunscreen is something near and dear to my heart, as well as something I run through quite often. When I find a brand that works, I tend to try to stay with it, and I rarely if ever use anything below SPF50 PA+++ Honestly, in our tropical weather and being so near the Equator, I think anything less is just not enough.

But this isn’t going to be a discussion about SPF. I’ll leave that to the experts (which I will not profess to be). I’d just like to tell you about a sunscreen I’ve been hmming and hawing over the past couple of months, a little unsure about how I feel about it. Ultimately, I like it but there are a couple of things that does make me pause when I consider a repurchase.

The sunscreen in question is the Shiseido Perfect UV Protector SPF 50+ PA+++ which I believe replaces something similar currently in their line up. I have heard a lot of good things about Shiseido sun care products but I never tried them because I’ll be honest, I got confused. They have a range with blue bottles, they have a range with white bottles, and they have loads of sub-brands. Which do I choose?!
