Receive Fabulous Finds every month: Malaysia’s first beauty box subscription launches

TAKE NOTE: Fabulous Finds has been discontinued for now due to the owners’ health constraints. 

A couple of weeks back, I “launched” the MWS Beauty Box subscription which was my tongue-in-cheek poke at sample beauty box subscriptions. Being hypothetical and pretty much a joke, it was priced at a staggering RM90/month. Ridiculous, if you ask me. But it also drew quite a bit of attention from many of you here in Malaysia, asking how you could subscribe.

Well, the MWS Beauty Box subscription remains pretty much a hypothetical joke for now, but I’m pleased to let you know that we in Malaysia now have a beauty box subcription service on our shores through Fabulous Finds. Hurray! 🙂

It isn’t RM90 (whew!) and because I’m a big fan of local businesses, and of giving them all the support I can, I’m going to tell you about it despite all my misgivings about beauty box subscriptions 🙂 I’ve also got a short interview with the owner, Hui Ling which includes the question – why would we want to pay for a box of samples if we can get it at the counter? Yep, tough one that 😛

Her World Beauty Awards 2012: Judging Beauty Products with the People’s Voice

If you’ve come by my blog through the Her World magazine July 2012 issue (Malaysia edition), I bid you welcome 🙂

Yes, its one of those absolutely thrilling moments for me, personally because I’m all narcissistic that way 😉 But for anyone who remembered my trumpeting about being one of the judges of the Her World Beauty Awards 2012, its OUT! 😀 😀

Its just 1 page so no need to get all excited lol… I’ve got a shot of the brief interview (they didn’t publish my more irreverent answers which included “soap” as my pick for the best beauty product invented! I think its too far out 😛 ) So if you’d like to see what my biggest beauty pet peeve is, or my view on the best beauty trend invented, here it is with a small behind the scenes look 😉

Tip: The Cheapest Brush Cleaner I have ever used (and its effective too!)

A while ago, reader Joy left a reply to another reader about how she was taught in makeup school, a cheap and effective way to clean her makeup brushes (Have I mentioned how I love it when you all chip in to help each other? I start picking up gems and tips too! 😉 ) It was effective, and importantly, did not break the bank. Makeup artists go through a lot of brushes each time so it would be costly to use a brush cleaner or detergent all the time. Here’s her comment :

Another cheaper way to clean your brush faster and more effectively. Try the bar soap from Marks and Spencer or Dove. Wet the brush and glide it over the bar soap till it is soapy and rinse off. Then leave to dry on a towel. *Use only the 2 bar soaps mentioned as any normal one will leave your brushes dry

I found what she said very intriguing. Soap! I never thought of that! Incidentally, I had run out of my Johnson & Johnson’s Baby Shampoo, So the next time I was out and about, I wandered down the soap aisle of the supermarket and came away with a bar of Dove soap. I opted for Dove because its (a) cheap and (b) cheap 😛 It was just slightly over RM2 so its fine if it didn’t work out. By contast, the small J&J shampoo is about RM6! So expensive! LOL!! 😛

But I have to say, Joy’s onto something because it does work a treat!

If the Lunasol 3 Dimensional Eye Palette in Deep Beige was a 3D movie its the only one I’d watch

Have you noticed how every new movie these days has a 3D version of it? Aren’t they tired of it yet? I personally refuse to watch anything in 3D – gives me a headache and when I realise, after suffering through wearing heavy 3D glasses that feel awkward and uncomfortable, that most of the movie doesn’t give the 3D experience, I feel cheated.

Fortunately, the Kanebo Lunasol 3 Dimensional Eye palettes deliver 🙂

I love my Japanese makeup but there are many who don’t because it is perceived to be too sheer or too shimmery. Japanese makeup, for the most part, seems to accentuate rather than colour. I like that and I find its not as easy to make mistakes too! 😀

The Kanebo Lunasol 3 Dimensional Eye palettes from last year are a slight departure, in the pigment department. These palettes are pretty pigmented, which is always a nice surprise. Plus, they also have that lovely iridescent shimmer that somehow only Japanese makeup seem to be able to perfect – the one that makes your skin softly shine without looking like a glitter ball exploded in your face.

I had my eye on 05 Deep Beige for the longest time since I had a peep at it and sometime late last year, I caved and got it. Its a very neutral eye palette but one that can pack a pretty punch. Plus, I get something ridiculous like 8 shades of varying textures in 1 very compact palette. What’s not to love? 😀
