Guerlain’s Holiday (Christmas) 2008 collection is so pretty I think I’m about to cry! :)

The theme is Midnight Butterfly and there will be butterflies etched on the limited edition products and on its packaging. I don’t know how anyone will be able to resist it! Just look at this picture of the items in this collection!

I found this online at blog.onlylady.com which is a Chinese article and therefore I cannot read it. I’m still waiting for the official information to come in if I can get it. Otherwise, we’ll just have to wait till we see it in the stores. There’s More! Continue reading →

What eyeshadow should I use for work?

Quite some time ago, I had a reader FireAngel ask me what sorts of eyeshadow I could recommend for work. My answer to her then was “Whatever suits your line of work”. You see, what colours or textures of eyeshadow you can wear depends largely on what sort of work you do and what image you are expected to project.

Creative and relaxed workplace

If you are in a creative line of work without too much restriction on dressing e.g. you can wear casual clothes to work or dress in an eccentric manner without raising eyebrows, then you can pretty much use any colour or texture. If you do fall in that category, then lucky you! You can likely pull off wild blue and green eyeshadow or glittery orange shadow or teal or turquoise mascara and not have anyone stare at you.

In a serious traditional workplace

Unfortunately, the majority of women who find themselves asking this question work in a rather more sedate and staid environment, where colour seems to be taboo. I find it hard to see why a light sheer wash of colour e.g. green, lilac or peach on the eyes should raise eyebrows. There’s More! Continue reading →

Review: Makeup: Guerlain Ombre Eclat Eyeshadow - Perle D’Argents 480

When I encountered the Estee Lauder Chocolate Decadence collection for Fall 2008, I was stunned at the uncanny resemblence to Guerlain Ombre Eclat eyeshadow quads. So, I went home and rooted around my collection and realised that I hadn’t reviewed them, so here it is.

Guerlain Eyeshadow quad

If you have seen the new Estee Lauder eyeshadow quads, don’t you think the similarity is uncanny? The same golden square shaped quad with slightly domed shaped cover. The same rectangular pans inside and 2 sponge ended applicators. The only difference being that Guerlain kept the gold on the cover (which attracts fingerprints like crazy) while Estee Lauder put it on the inside. Oh and I think that the Guerlain quad looks more luxurious. For some reason, the 4 pans of eyeshadow make me think of chocolate bars. :P There’s More! Continue reading →

How to Tightline your eyes?

I’d never heard of this phrase “tightlining” until about a year ago. Before this, lining your eyelids or lashes to me, meant lining above your lashes. This was the method I used when using gel eyeliner, as I have shown in a previous post on how to use a gel eyeliner.

However, I’d read a lot of raves about a method of lining your lashes called “tightlining” which was supposed to give the illusion of bigger more natural looking eyes. Anything that can make my eyes look bigger is great! So, I decided to try it out.

The theory is simple. Get your eyeliner as close to your lashes as humanly possible to fill in the gaps (if you don’t already have thick lashes). This technique works better I feel, for ladies with lashes that are more sparse or who have light coloured lashes. The most popular way of tightlining is from UNDER the lashes. Be warned of huge scary eye pictures after the jump! ;) There’s More! Continue reading →
