Beauty Scenario Vol. 1: You want your makeup to last the whole day. What do you use?

June 16, 2015 Paris B 28 Comments

Hi friends!

I’m kicking off this new series today, (I didn’t want to call it a series, but it’ll be a recurring topic so I think that’s what a series is right?) which I’ll call “Beauty Scenario”. What it basically is, is a post where I pose a beauty related scenario, whether based on my own experiences, or based on questions I get from all of you curious cats, and we all get to gather around and have a good ol’ jaw about what YOU would do in that scenario.

You might be wondering how this is different from the other discussive “Your Say” posts that I have from time to time. Well, those tend to run a gamut of anything that enters my head from tampons to nosy questions about whether you shower in the mornings;  but I thought we’d enjoy and benefit from something that’s a little more focused on beauty, since this IS supposed to be a “beauty blog” after all right? LOL!

makeup that lasts in heat

I invite you to pose your own beauty scenario (you can always email me at [email protected] if you don’t want to ask it publicly in the comments) and I’ll bring it up the next time around 🙂

To kick things off, here’s a topic we see arise quite often.

If you want your makeup to last all day or for a few hours without melting off, what are the products you would use?

This is a real concern in our sort of tropical heat and humidity and while it will naturally depend on the situation and our skin types, here are my picks and why I pick them! Please do share yours – we’ll all learn from each other here 🙂

Exploring the multiple versatile uses of the RMK Eyeshadow Brush C

September 3, 2014 Paris B 10 Comments

A few months ago, when RMK launched their new eye shadow brushes, I picked one out of the bunch to try, because it was interesting and because I don’t see brushes like this very often.

It is the RMK Eye Shadow Brush C, which doesn’t tell us very much does it? 😀

The Brush C is fairly short in length, but a comfortable length for most of us because when you try to get close to the mirror for detailed work, it’s useful not having the long handle bumping against the mirror. The bristles are natural hair and are 100% goat hair.

What made this brush interesting is because is angled to fit the contours of the eye and face better, but it is a round brush, with an angled flat top that reminds me of a slightly looser foundation brush like this. I asked the visiting RMK Makeup Artist how it was to be used, and he showed me that it was useful for applying strong or pigmented colours because it blends it out so it doesn’t look too strong on skin and picks up product well.

Paris Picks! My Top 8 Favourite Liquid Foundations I reach for most often

June 9, 2014 Paris B 58 Comments

Liquid foundation was something I came into late in my makeup life. I came into makeup late in life as it was, but that’s a story for another day. When I discovered liquid foundations that were actually comfortable on my skin without looking like I was headed to the Beijing Opera, I couldn’t stop. I also discovered that as my skin got drier, liquid foundation actually felt more comfortable and looked better on than powder foundation, which I’d been using before.

After all these years, and after realising that every morning, when I reach for a foundation, I find my hand hovering over just a few in the drawer, it was time to share with you my favourite liquid foundations 🙂

favourite liquid foundation

I make no apologies that barring an extra 2 which are not included in the group shot for reasons which I’ll explain below, my favourite liquid foundations come from the department store brands, which means they come from the higher end of the price scale. I use so little product and I get such wonderful finishes from these, I have no real desire to find cheaper options. So, apologies if you’re looking for a pharmacy/drugstore brand in here, I have none in my Top 8 but I’ll tell you of 3 I like, further down 🙂

New! RMK Eye Shadow Brush and Liner Brush, quality brushes reinvented and revamped for 2014

June 6, 2014 Paris B 23 Comments

I’ve always been into makeup brushes although my “obsession” if it can be called that, hasn’t come to the fore till quite recently. All of a sudden, we’re inundated with new and wonderful brands of makeup brushes and better still, some brands have revamped their brush line! Earlier this year, I told you about NARS overhauling their makeup brushes. I may have mentioned that there was another brand that was also doing the same.

The brand in question is Japanese brand RMK, and I confess to being a little over-excited when I was introduced to the new brushes a while ago together with their Summer collection. In fact, all thoughts and opinions of the Summer collection flew out the window the moment I laid eyes on their delectable new eyeshadow brushes! 😀

This Summer 2014, RMK introduces their new range of eyeshadow and eye liner brushes which will replace the previous ones. I didn’t own the previous versions as I didn’t quite like how they felt, which was a little rough, much to my surprise. These new ones feel deliciously soft and comfortable, and are made from natural hair, bar 3 brushes, my personal choice for makeup brushes.

I had the opportunity to speak to one of the RMK Makeup Artists from Japan who was visiting during the launch and asked where these brushes were made and I was told that they’re made by Chikuhodo – a reknowned brush maker in Japan, like the more visible Hakuhodo. I’ll quickly break down the brushes for you 🙂
