Friends, meet my photoshop in a bottle : Cle de Peau Beaute Radiant Fluid Foundation

February 13, 2015 Paris B 42 Comments

Every time I’ve sat down to tell you about the Cle de Peau Radiant Fluid Foundation, I’ve found myself checking myself. It’s by Cle de Peau which means it’s a luxury product, which means it’s expensive. Very expensive for a 30ml bottle. Which means I’ll have people moaning at me about how expensive it is. So I’ve sat on it for over 4 months since its launch last year, dithering…

But I’ve raved about it at every opportunity to anyone who’d listen, or who’d ask. I’ve convinced a friend to buy it (and I think she loves it as much as I do!) So, I finally decided that ok, I’ll talk about it on the blog. Again, please bear in mind that this is expensive, so please don’t moan about the price – it’s not as if I haven’t warned you 😛

The thing though, for the asking price, I do wish that Cle de Peau had thought to put the product in a packaging with a more luxurious look and feel. The liquid foundation comes in a pump bottle, but the deep navy body is plastic, and so is the golden cap.

It often boggles my mind when I see incongruity like this. Perhaps the cost is in the product itself (because it’s an amazing product!) but I’m quite sure a little bit of the cost could have been spent on making it look better and more luxurious. At least give it a little heft. Or perhaps the idea was not to make it too hefty so you won’t demur from taking this foundation everywhere you go – because if you travel a lot, you’ll want to. It just looks amazing when worn. There’s that word again.

Even on my dry skin the Chanel Perfection Lumiére Velvet foundation is simply perfect

January 19, 2015 Paris B 49 Comments

I’d never had any luck with Chanel foundations. The popular Vitalumiere Aqua was a dud, the powder foundation turned me orange and I thereafter swore off all Chanel bases. Gonna put it up front and out there because this is one instance when I have had to bite my tongue and eat my words with ketchup (everything tastes better with ketchup!) because I actually found myself liking a Chanel foundation so much, it’s found its way into my Top 10 liquid foundations (that was a post about my Top 8 but the list grows doesn’t it?)

The foundation in question is the Chanel Perfection Lumiére Velvet Smooth Effect Makeup foundation that was available a year or so ago and received a lot of raves. I wasn’t going to try it, because whenever I see the word “Velvet” in any makeup item, it implies a matte finish and when you have dry skin as I do, matte anything just screams “Lines! Drying! Parched!”

But try it I did, and what d’ya know – like how when you least expect to, you fall in love! 😀

Always have camera perfect foundation with the Make Up For Ever HD Foundation

September 29, 2014 Paris B 46 Comments

Ok, let’s get it out there. I love this Make Up For Ever HD Foundation. Yes, I’m late to to trying this foundation since it’s been out for a while, but it wasn’t for want of trying. I had a really poor experience at the MUFE counters at Sephora over 2 years ago and I swore off buying anything from them even though I was very interested in many of their things. I used to be a ardent user of their eyeshadows and Full Cover concealer, going through a couple of tubes of the latter even. But one horrible experience, where the SA at the counter refused (yes, that’s right, refused flat out) to allow me to purchase a foundation shade I wanted (I got the right shade, she wanted me to use one 2 shades darker) had me cutting off the brand from my radar.

But later, Make Up For Ever opened up their pro boutique on the 1st floor of Sephora Starhill and that is the place to go to for your needs. I had decent service there and I wasn’t pushed into buying crap I didn’t want, while allowing me to buy the crap I wanted, and everyone was happy.

Which is how I finally ended up buying the HD Invisible Cover Foundation in shade #N115. Sephora describes this as 115 Ivory, for light skin with pink undertones which is pretty accurate for me. I find this to be a fairly neutral shade that swatches on my hand lighter than I expected, but when worn on my face, is the perfect shade. So always try foundation where it is to be applied, folks, on your face not on your hands 😛

I will have to say that finding the right shade can be a little tricky. There are about 26 shades available with subtle nuances in each that allow it to suit most skintones, but you have to try it on to be sure so it is a high risk buying this sight unseen.

Make Up For Ever (MUFE) describes this as a HD High Definition Foundation because it has medium to high coverage, and gives skin the soft-focus effect so you look flawless up close and even under harsh lighting. While I and most of us, are rarely thrust under the spotlight, I like how this foundation makes my skin look pretty much perfect for photographs and in person for days when I feel the need to impress. Oh yeah, we all have those days don’t we? 😉

Paris Picks! My Top 8 Favourite Liquid Foundations I reach for most often

June 9, 2014 Paris B 58 Comments

Liquid foundation was something I came into late in my makeup life. I came into makeup late in life as it was, but that’s a story for another day. When I discovered liquid foundations that were actually comfortable on my skin without looking like I was headed to the Beijing Opera, I couldn’t stop. I also discovered that as my skin got drier, liquid foundation actually felt more comfortable and looked better on than powder foundation, which I’d been using before.

After all these years, and after realising that every morning, when I reach for a foundation, I find my hand hovering over just a few in the drawer, it was time to share with you my favourite liquid foundations 🙂

favourite liquid foundation

I make no apologies that barring an extra 2 which are not included in the group shot for reasons which I’ll explain below, my favourite liquid foundations come from the department store brands, which means they come from the higher end of the price scale. I use so little product and I get such wonderful finishes from these, I have no real desire to find cheaper options. So, apologies if you’re looking for a pharmacy/drugstore brand in here, I have none in my Top 8 but I’ll tell you of 3 I like, further down 🙂
