The Marc Jacobs Genius Gel Supercharged Foundation almost sounds like a Superhero product

May 28, 2014 Paris B 45 Comments

When I first told you that Marc Jacobs Beauty was now available here in Malaysia, I had quite a few requests asking my thoughts on the liquid foundation. Apparently, it comes highly rated and I remember the makeup trainer raving about it too during her demonstration. So it was the first MJ Beauty item I put to the test.

Ok not quite true. The blush was the first I put to the test, but that’s a story for another day 😀

The Marc Jacobs Beauty Genius Gel Super Charged Foundation, to give it its full name is a liquid foundation in a gel texture. What sets this foundation apart from others in its ilk is that it’s supposed to be lightweight in texture and comfortable on skin for all skin types, be it oily or dry, and wear well, providing hydration and light enough to layer from light to full coverage.

That’s quite a lot to ask from one product isn’t it? To be perfectly honest, I didn’t fall in love with it. I know lots of people do, but I’m not one of them and it’s not for want of trying either. It’s not to say that it’s bad. I didn’t think it was bad, it just didn’t sit well with me for one reason or the other which I’ll try to explain.

Uh-oh my Holy Grail foundation is in danger of being dethroned by the RMK Gel Creamy Foundation

January 20, 2014 Paris B 23 Comments

A while ago, I told you that my Holy Grail liquid foundation was the Kanebo Lunasol Skin Modelling Liquid Foundation. I do still like it a lot, but I think I might have found another to dethrone it from HG status. My, my. aren’t we fickle? 😛

Ladies and gents, I give you the RMK Gel Creamy Foundation (not as stated in the picture which amounts to the same thing but different 😛 ) I have owned this one for a while now when I bought it as a value set together with the foundation brush that you see in the picture. But it was only recently that I fully appreciated just what a great foundation this is, especially if you have slightly drier skin. I can’t tell you how this will fare if you have oily skin so it’s something you’ll have to find out for yourself, I’m afraid, although you may prefer the regular liquid foundation.

But if you have normal to drier skin, you’ll love this! I do! 😀

Sheer foundation your thing? Then the new Shiseido foundation will be Sheer and Perfect for you

October 21, 2013 Paris B 34 Comments

If there’s one thing I’ve learned since discovering beauty, it’s that even though I’ve found my Holy Grail product, I am always looking out for something that might topple the HG product from it’s pedestal. It’s almost as if I challenge the product everyday. And you know, there are so many new things popping up every other day! One of the latest foundations I was quite interested in was this – the Shiseido Sheer and Perfect Foundation. I wanted to see how it measured up to my Holy Grail foundation and my Holy Grail No. 2 (because I rediscovered the latter and promoted it)

I happen to like sheer and light textured liquid foundations. It’s what finally sold me onto wearing a liquid foundation, because the thick mask-like textures of liquid foundations of yore scared me away. This one ticks the light textured box.

What the Sheer and Perfect Foundation promises is to even out your skintone and give you a glowing visage. Shiseido says that this foundation has light correcting qualities to colour correct your skintone automatically so it looks more even toned. I was told by the makeup artist that this is semi-matte and not as full coverage as the Perfect Refining Foundation which happens to be my favourite Shiseido foundation. In this regard, I have to agree. The texture is lighter but the coverage isn’t bad. I’ll show you how it looks below, but I discovered a fly in the otherwise perfect ointment.

A new BB Cream on the block from Guerlain that fells all others in one Beauty Booster swoop!

July 29, 2013 Paris B 53 Comments

After railing away at BB Creams recently, my next encounter with a BB Cream was to buy one LOL! To be fair it was not called a BB Cream as such, and I was very intrigued. You see, my favourite BB Cream to date is the Diorsnow BB Creme. As a light foundation, it does everything it says on the box and more. I love it to itty bitty bits. My next favourite brand is Guerlain so naturally, when I saw the Guerlain Lingerie de Peau BB Beauty Booster I just had to give it a go. I wanted to see if I’d love it as much as I love the Diorsnow BB Creme.

Let us just say that Dior has just been dethroned by this one, whether or not it is called a BB Cream. I put them both right at the top of the BB heap and I love this!

I originally did not even realise that Guerlain had come out with their version of a BB Cream quite aptly named Beauty Booster. It was while making a purchase at the Guerlain counter that the SA casually asked if I had seen it to which my answer was “Erm… no? Guerlain has a BB Cream?” There are 2 shades available – Light and Medium. I didn’t jump right in at first. I had to know if Light would suit my skin and when I saw it did, off to the cashier I went. Thankfully, this is one of the last big purchaes I’ve made. On a diet now 😛

Seriously though, if you are in the market for a light foundation, without all the weight of a traditional liquid foundation, yet want to even out skin and just, in the words of Guerlain, give your skin that beauty boost, you will love this. L.O.V.E!
