Ah yes, the infamous Maybelline Color Tattoo cream eyeshadows are here in Malaysia! 😀
I had another post scheduled to be written today but real life has been kicking my butt all week and there was no way I could have written anything coherent. So you will have to do with this rather meatless post but one that has reminded me of my early days of blogging when I’d blog on the fly about stuff that happened within a day, not a month later – it is kinda fun! 🙂
Those of you who follow me on my social media channels will have remembered me announcing about a week or two back, that we were getting these in towards the end of the month of March 2013. I realised recently that many of you reading this don’t follow most of the social media channels offered so you might have missed the announcement. I share most news on sales, promotions, and previews there, not on the blog, so do take a peep at the Twitter or Facebook page now and again so you don’t miss out 🙂
Anyway, I’ve been haunting the pharmacies since, hoping to catch a glimpse of them with pretty much no luck. I’ve gone into at least 3 Guardian pharmacies and 2 Watson’s with no luck. In some pharmacies, I see the slots and even testers, but no product. Some pharmacies don’t even have the space set up. Well, yesterday I happened to be at Pavilion KL and I remembered that Sukie mentioned on Twitter that she spotted these at Caring pharmacy so I went to take a look and the moment I saw these, I swear, there was a universal trumpet sound of “Ta-da!” 😀
By way of information, we will be getting in 8 colours – 5 bold and colourful shades and 3 neutral safe shades. I’ll share with you some quick swatches and pictures below and you can try to hazard a guess which 3 I picked before I show you the pictures 😉
Here is the counter that I saw in Caring pharmacy, Pavilion KL – its just a small section of the Maybelline display shelf and you will only see 7 colours. 1 more shade (Tenacious Teal) is only due to arrive in April so if that’s a shade you are eyeing, be sure to look for it in April.
The 4 bold and colourful shades we are getting are: Tenacious Teal (turquoise), Painted Purple (purple), Fierce & Tangy (orange), Edge Emerald (green) and Bold Gold (light shimmery gold).
The 3 neutral shades are : Bad to the Bronze (bronze), Tough as Taupe (which for some reason is spelt Touge as Taupe which doesn’t make any sense 😛 ) and Audacious Asphalt (grey aka Immortal Charcoal). I actually like the name “Immortal Charcoal” It sounds so… exotic! 😀
I quickly swatched the available colours at the display and I wasn’t planning to wait till I got home to take a photo. In fact, I was trying to scrub off the colours but if you would believe it, it doesn’t budge. It couldn’t. I think the 24 hour lasting power claim could be true. Scary, but true.
Here are the swatches as best as I could get them. I’ll quickly describe them too.
- Edgy Emerald – a light green with some golden shimmer. I wasn’t quite expecting it. I expected it to be more emerald.
- Bold Gold – a light shimmery gold that goes on skin shiny and shimmery. I expect this one to be a very useful shade for highlighting and even to wear on its own with nice black liner and lots of mascara to brighten up the eyes.
- Bad to the Bronze – A shimmery bronze shade that leans a little cool. I don’t usually play well with bronze shades but this one was quite impressive. Again, I can see this one worn on its own quite easily.
- Tough as Taupe – A creamy matte taupe that I find to be quite a true taupe. Think of a mushroom colour. On my skin it looked dirty and if I ever wanted to fake a bruise, this is the colour I’d pick. Naturally, it was no go on my eyes.
- Fierce & Tangy – A deep orange that I’ve no idea how to work 😛
- Painted Purple – A shimmery true purple. Not too much red tones in there and I think it might make quite a pretty eyeliner, this one.
- Audacious Asphalt – A shimmery charcoal grey that has some green undertones to it and a colour I can imagine would make an excellent base for a smokey eye, or even a quick “I want to look glamourous but have no time” sort of look.
Did ya guess which 3 went home with me? 😉
Ah, I played safe this time around 🙂
I took home Audacious Asphalt, Bold Gold and Bad to the Bronze. The bright shades weren’t quite what I envisaged, and I have a feeling age is creeping up on me, because I don’t seem as attracted to bright colours for my lids anymore. Boohoo! Growing up (and old) sucks 😛
I have to admit that I was a little surprised at the texture of the tester pots. I do not know if they have been exposed for far too long, but it felt dry and it wasn’t very easy to pick up colour, nor to spread the colour evenly. I actually expected them to spread like warm butter the way the Benefit Creaseless Cream shadows and Shiseido Shimmering Cream Eyeshadows (2 of my favourite cream shadows) do. But I also remembered that when I discovered that my Benefit Skinny Jeans was drying out, it too felt a little hard and dry. So maybe it was the testers. I’ll report on the texture again when I’ve actually used these and actually have an opinion formed 🙂
Oh I forgot to mention the price. The Maybelline Color Tattoo cream eyeshadows will set you back a very wallet friendly RM19.90 per pot. If that isn’t a steal, I don’t know what is! 😀
Which of the 7 shades you see here catch your eye? Have you already used these and have views to share on how best to use them?
I haven’t used them, naturally. They’ve just come home with me last night, and I wanted to share the news so you can all now run out and haunt the pharmacies too LOL! If you don’t see them yet, they’ll probably start rolling out across the country soon.
p/s I suddenly realised this was a pretty meaty post! Hope I was coherent 😛
Paris B
Maybelline Color Tattoo by Eyestudio 24 hr Eyeshadow come in 8 shades locally Price: RM19.90 each Availability: Most major pharmacies and Maybelline display counters starting from March 2013
Ika Roseworn says
Are you kidding me! I have most of the colours, and had to buy at an inflated price, and they finally bring them in at RM19.90???
Paris B says
Not kidding unfortunately, Ika. On the bright side, at least you have had the provilege of owning them for a while? 😉
Phay says
Hi Paris,
How do you think about the comparison for this one and the cream shadow from Shu Uemura? I heard that the cream shadow from SU is good as a base and I am thinking to get one to use as base/primer. If Maybelline one is comparable to SU, then I will save a lot.
Thank you.
~Phay~
Paris B says
Hi Phay, I’m afraid I haven’t tried the ones from Shu Uemura. I have tried the MAC paint pots (old formula) and the Benefit Creaseless and Shiseido and I think they are comparable. Very long lasting and a good base. But perhaps colour selection may sway you if none of the colours of the Maybelline are to your liking.
Becca says
Oooh I hope they work as well on your lids, Paris! I didn’t have much luck with them on my eyes but I know a LOT of people do so I’m glad there is such a nice, affordable version out there! 🙂
Paris B says
Oh no, why didn’t they work for you, Becca? Should there be something I should watch out for?
Michelle Beh says
Great to hear that!!I bought the Taupe colour in Singapore few months back Paris B!!I would say I do really like the texture as it really stays on my eyelid for pretty long hours and its not smudging.
Paris B says
Thanks for sharing, Michelle! Happy to know it works so well. At these prices, its almost a bonus! 😉
Yue Rain says
i saw it in Caring midvalley and Guardian Midvalley already. hwoever, din’t see it in watson mudvalley yet . ^^ can use it eye liner and it won’t budge. it is really a steal.
Paris B says
I’m now thinking of getting the colored ones to use as liner 🙂 thanks for sharing your report on where to find these!
Teri says
I love these a lot! I’d even dare to say that they are my all time favourite cream eye shadows. They last just so well on me and the price is just the biggest bonus of all. Too bad we only got a few shades here, slightly similar to yours but a bi different. I hope they release some more soon! ^^
Paris B says
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on these, Teri! I must say at these prices, it is such a bonus to know they work so well! I think some lighter more shiny shades wouldn’t go amiss eh?
Jean says
lovely colors and very affordable price! seldom use eyeshadow but i am tempted to get one or two colors from this collection, might work too if i use them as color liner right? =p
Paris B says
Oh yes, I’m quite sure they’ll work as liner too 🙂 reports are that they work well for that!
Sunny says
I have Bad to the Bronze and Bold Gold, and the formula has to be one of the best ones I’ve ever tried! Even without a primer it doesn’t go anywhere on my lids, and that’s really quite an achievement! I just really hope all the LE shades they keep releasing in the US will also make their way here, because I could always use a couple more 🙂
Paris B says
That’s so awesome to know, Sunny! I know you don’t go for drugstore stuff usually, so your endorsement of these is quite something 😉 I don’t pay a lot of attention to what has been released but you’re right. We could do with more shades, more!
gio says
I love these eyeshadows. I was afraid of trying them at first because cream eyeshadows crease within a couple of hours on my lids, but then a friend gave me one and I fell in love. They just don’t budge, not even when I’m not using a primer. And they are so pigmented too!
Paris B says
Hi Gio, I know you live your colour shadows so its great to know you love these too! I live hearing all the lovely endorsements for these. Makes me real excited to give them a go at the first opportunity I get!
Jennifer says
Yes, I got the Bad to the Bronze. It is selling at Guardian for RM17.01 🙂 Saw it at One Utama.
Paris B says
Good buy! Even cheaper than retail!
Jennifer says
Thanks for letting us know. This is a steal at the price they’re selling. Good selection of shades. I like them. Ok this weekend I should be on the hunt. Wee!
Paris B says
Did you get any, Jennifer? 🙂 the price is really good and they are quick and easy to use 🙂
Honey says
All I could say was FINALLY! I picked up Bad to the Bronze in Australia. And when I saw this in Parkson, I had to get Tough as Taupe. These 2 are the most popular colours in the Youtube world. I really, really like Tough as Taupe. And I also got myself Painted Purple……am wearing it today. LOVE!
Surprisingly the price tag of RM19.90 is really budget. It was AUD$10.15 in Australia, after 10% discount if I could recall correctly.
P.S. I ‘allow’ myself a break from my makeup purchase ban as these are not new stuff but long awaited for before the ban was in place! Hah!
Paris B says
Haha good justification, Honey! 😉 I can see why both Bad to the Bronze and Tough as Taupe are popular colours – they do suit most skintones and are ‘natural’ so it works as shadow and base too 😉 Painted Purple scared me a little because I don’t do well with purple shadow but I plan to try it as a liner. So many people have said that it works!
Siti says
What a lovely selection of colors! I want them all. Ok, maybe the emerald and bronze first. The fact that it wont budge on the back of your hand makes me feel so excited. I am excited to see if it stays put on my oily eyelid. I am running to the nearest guardian now! :p
Paris B says
I’m serious you know, Siti. I scrubbed the back of my hand like crazy and it wouldn’t go away. I had to walk around Pavilion with colourful stripes at the back of my hands. I think the SA at Ferragamo was too polite to comment LOL 😛 did you manage to find them?
Hani Lutfi says
I have been waiting for these to come!!!! A lot of Youtube gurus love Bad To The Bronze, a great every day shade! Can’t wait to get my hands on these! And, RM20 is really cheap!
Paris B says
Haha I evidently don’t watch any YouTube to know enough about the popular colours! Lol. I hope you have managed to find them, Hani?
WaA says
hi, thanks for the infomation. i just got mine at aeon wellness 😛 its 10% off now!!
Paris B says
Thanks for sharing your find! Which colour did you pick up? 🙂
Anis says
Er…I love wearing Fierce and Tangy. Am I the only one? 🙁
On my tanned skin it actually brightens my eyelids and it’s not very striking (to me la). I even layer it with an orange eyeshadow. Burnt red eyeshadow on the outer corners and winged eyeliner. BAM! Total weirdo hahaha.
BTW, I just bought Taugh as Taupe and Edgy Emerald today from Parkson KLCC and these things had a 10% discount! Yay for discounts on already affordable items! :p
Paris B says
Haha Anis, I’m sure it looks fab on you! 😀 I do think its made for tanned girls. It would bring out the golden tones of your skin. On mine, it’d just make me look sallow. So lucky you for being able to pull off some Fierce colours! 😉
C says
I went to caring pharmacy yesterday and they were pretty much all gone. 🙁 I really love those neutral colors- the gold, bronze and taupe- and the price is so good. Will be keeping an eye out for them…
Paris B says
Wah so fast! Maybe try looking in other pharmacies, Parkson and Aeon stores. It should be pretty much rolled out everywhere by now 🙂
Wojis says
These are great and I love the colours, just waiting for a whole new range of colours. I use these as shadow and as a base… makes eyeshadow stick the whole day.
Paris B says
That’s awesome to know Wojis! 🙂 which colours do you have, or do you have them all? 😉
Wojis says
I have 3: Turquoise Forever, Infinite White, Permanent Taupe. Infinite White is a great colour, just so special
BudakKimchi says
You can use the orange color to cover your dark circles 😀
Paris B says
Good idea, except its far too orange! Haha 😀
pj says
Ok, I am slightly obsessed with these since I saw them on youtube reviews. Took them forever to reach our shores. I’ve been to many outlets, Bad To The Bronze is sold out. I so wanna get them.
& there seems to be more color / limited editions? I saw on youtube, there’s a Color Tattoo – Barely Beige. A dupe for MAC’s Bare Study.
Paris B says
From what I know, there is quite a large collection overseas in the USA. Locally from what I understand, we just get 8 for now 🙂
