What eyeshadow should I use for work?

September 16, 2008 Paris B 17 Comments

Quite some time ago, I had a reader FireAngel ask me what sorts of eyeshadow I could recommend for work. My answer to her then was “Whatever suits your line of work”. You see, what colours or textures of eyeshadow you can wear depends largely on what sort of work you do and what image you are expected to project.

Creative and relaxed workplace

If you are in a creative line of work without too much restriction on dressing e.g. you can wear casual clothes to work or dress in an eccentric manner without raising eyebrows, then you can pretty much use any colour or texture. If you do fall in that category, then lucky you! You can likely pull off wild blue and green eyeshadow or glittery orange shadow or teal or turquoise mascara and not have anyone stare at you.

In a serious traditional workplace

Unfortunately, the majority of women who find themselves asking this question work in a rather more sedate and staid environment, where colour seems to be taboo. I find it hard to see why a light sheer wash of colour e.g. green, lilac or peach on the eyes should raise eyebrows.Continue Reading

Review: Makeup: Stila Convertible Eye Color – Clove

September 15, 2008 Paris B 7 Comments

Stila’s Convertible Eye colors are one of Stila’s bestseller items. Stila was the brainchild of a makeup artist so I can understand the need for multi-tasking products when one is in a hurry or needs to lug their makeup bags to gigs. What the Stila Convertible Eye Color is, is a liner and shadow in one handy slim pen.

So, am I enamoured with this product as I have been with the rest of Stila products I’ve tried?Continue Reading

Review: Makeup: Stila Smokey Eye Palette – Original

September 2, 2008 Paris B 12 Comments

The smokey eye trend that started towards the end of the 1990s doesn’t seem to be waning but in fact seems to be picking up pace. Almost every makeup brand has a palette that is “perfect for a smokey eye”. I already have two! One by Guerlain which I will be reviewing soon (I love it!) and another by Stila which is the Stila Smokey Eye Quad in Original.

Stila Smokey Eye Quad

I said before that I really like Stila eyeshadows but I did gripe a little about how its hard to find a truly dark colour in the single eyeshadows. Well, the Smokey Eye Quad takes care of that! The quad comes with 4 eyeshadows that are perfect for creating a smokey eye.Continue Reading

Review: Makeup: Stila Convertible Color Cheek and Lip – Lillium

August 29, 2008 Paris B 10 Comments

I have a phobia of cream blushes.

There I’ve said it. I first tried cream blushes with Becca Turkish Rose. It was gorgeous but I could never get the hang of blending and applying it naturally. So, much as I’m tempted by all the lovely pictures and uses of Benefit Cosmetic’s Benetint and Posietint (See Kahani, Tine and Geekchic) I can’t see myself getting or using them as I’m such a klutz with cream/liquid blushes.

Stila Convertible Color Lillium

Enter Stila Convertible Color Dual Cheek and Lip. A cream cheek and lip product. It acts as a cream blush or as a lip colour. Personally I think it works better as a cheek color and I’ll explain why below.

The packaging is pretty as are all Stila products. The case is sturdy and there is a largish mirror inside the top cover. The compact is quite slim which makes it easy to tote around if you like to touch up. The cream colour itself is large and the colour of the case represents the colour of the product which makes it easy to find in your drawer.

The colour I have is Lillium which is a peachy toned colour with slight brownish undertones and no shimmer.Continue Reading
