Honey, If it’s not you then it must be me : Skincare products that didn’t work for me

August 15, 2013 Paris B 30 Comments

Every so often, as I go along my skincare journey, identifying my must-haves and current skincare loves, I too discard alongside the ones that didn’t make the cut or the ones that just don’t work for me one way or another. Most of the time, I don’t feature them at all. Why feature something I don’t like?

But then, I realised that it’s helpful knowing what doesn’t work for people because you can then avoid it, or if you are still very curious anyway, be aware of their pitfalls. So, unless they stand out as being spectactularly awful, in which case they will get a whole post to their awful selves, I might do some of these little round-ups as I go along, to balance out the raves I’ll have.

skincare that do not work for me

I’ll start off with a selection of skincare that I tried a few months ago and for some, I’ve been trying them off and on for months, to see if they truly do not work for me or just do not endear me to them for some reason. If they work for you, it would be helpful to know because it can help other readers make up their minds 🙂

Pure Paw Paw Papaya Ointment – S$14.90/25g

This was a gift, and while I hate to diss gifts because I know the gifter means well, this just didn’t cut it for me. What this is, is an ointment very much like the Lucas’ Papaw Ointment which is made from fermented papaya or papaw (paw paw) and has a myriad of uses to soothe, moisturise and protect the skin. I am a huge fan of the Lucas’ Papaw Ointment and because it gets a lot of flack for containing petroleum (which doesn’t bother me), I hoped I’d like this one. Sadly, I didn’t. I found the ointment far too runny even after being kept in the fridge, and the strong sweet smell put me off. I might hand it off for my nephew’s use. I don’t think he’ll be as fussy as I am 🙂

The Secret’s Out! Enjoy A Night to Remember with the brand new Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair 2

August 1, 2013 Paris B 67 Comments

Do you know how hard it is to keep a secret?

Very, very hard!

I’ve had to sit on this piece of news for over a month and it’s killing me, because in between, I’ve been telling you of my all time favourite skincare and also what I’ve been using in my skincare routine and this one has featured in them both… except I couldn’t tell you because I was bound by an embargo and a confidentiality agreement. Gah!

But no longer!!

estee lauder new advanced night repair synchronized recovery complex 2

Some of you may already know this, but for those who don’t, Estee Lauder has reformulated their iconic Advanced Night Repair serum and it is now known as Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex II. The change in the name is the II there at the end. This is their latest and what they say, is their most advanced serum ever.

The key advancement here is the use of their ChronoluxCB Technology. Basically, the discovery is that skin cells purifies itself and this process of catabolysis peaks at night. So, when this process happens, skin repairs itself from damage more quickly. As we age, this process slows. So, this all new ANR addresses this by combining the process of purification and synchronizing of night time repair so skin looks better and younger.

All that aside, all you really want to know is this – how is this all new Advanced Night Repair different from its predecessor and if I saw any difference after using it. Well, that’s what I’m here to tell you 🙂 I’ve been using the new ANR for just about a month now since its uber secret hush-hush press launch and that is just about enough time to test its efficacy 🙂

Your Say: What skincare are you using day and night? Here is mine!

July 23, 2013 Paris B 104 Comments

Last year, I shared some of the skincare I was using on a daily basis and 2 years ago, I shared my day and night skincare routine. I thoroughly enjoyed how everyone chipped in to share all of your day and night routines too! I thought it would be interesting to revisit it annually and see how far or not we have come and whether my and your routine have been working for you.

skincare routine day and night

Towards the end of 2012, and in early 2013 my skin went crazy. I had a lot of problems with breakouts and for some reason, everything went out of control. I didn’t even change my skincare which really puzzled me. What I did then was to pare back my skincare to the bare minimum – cleanse, tone and moisturise. Slowly, I got things under control and then, I started getting back into a routine.

It might interest you to know that for the most part, I have been using this range of skincare day and night for at least 6 months now in various combinations and I’ve had the best skin that I’ve ever had in all my years *touchwood*! Granted, it’s not flawless nor perfect, but it’s the best I’ve ever had, I can walk out without makeup if I wanted to (imperfections and all) and that makes me very happy.

So here is my present skincare routine and some quick notes on what I might change or switch out as I go along. I can’t say I’ll be using this same routine in another 6 months, but who knows eh? Do share your routine too! Has it changed from a year ago? Is your skin doing better now than it was 6 or 12 months ago?

Paris Picks! My Top 5 Favourite Skincare Items that stand the test of time

June 27, 2013 Paris B 73 Comments

favourite skincare

Fact is, ladies and gents, I have used loads… and I mean LOADS of different skincare in my time. It’s part of the reason I started blogging it. I wanted to share how the different products out there have worked, or not, for me. Who knew that it would blow up the way it did! 🙂

But over the years, I’ve been whittling back down my skincare arsenal and I can safely, hand on heart tell you, that I have found some faves that I am willing and happy to repurchase over and over. In fact, I have. In fact also, these are skincare I have been using over the past 6 months – some even longer – they are staples in my skincare regimen and I have found them to be so good, I’m actually loathe to switch out any one of them.

Yes, I’ve only found 5 to date. What does that make me? Extremely loyal? Extremely fickle? Or just Extremely picky? 😛

Before I unveil them, see if you can hazard a guess as to what they are. For a couple of them, the packaging shape is a giveaway and I think one might surprise you 😉 Got your guesses ready? Here they are in my first (and a possibly sporadic feature) Paris Picks! :D.
