Palettes

Confession: I have fallen out of love with makeup palettes

April 20, 2020 Paris B 10 Comments

It’s never a better time than having to stay home to realize that you don’t really need that much makeup. I have not put on a lick of makeup in over a month, and truthfully, I haven’t missed it.

Does that make me a bad beauty blogger to admit that? LOL 😛

Unlike most people who blog about beauty and makeup, as much as I enjoy wearing makeup, I don’t particularly like dolling myself up for no particular reason. I’ve always been quite happy to walk around without any makeup on, and I guess that’s just my approach to makeup. It’s a ‘going out’ thing for me, not a ‘stay at home’ thing.

I’ve also taken the time to take stock of the makeup I own (far too much!) and tried to reorganize them for when I eventually use them all again, and I had a little bit of epiphany.

I have fallen out of love with makeup palettes.

Late to the party but always red carpet camera ready with the Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow palette

November 12, 2018 Paris B 4 Comments

Sometimes, you have to use a product for quite a while before you figure out if it’s something you like or dislike. And sometimes, by the time you have figured it out, you realize that you’ve forgotten to take photos of it in its pristine condition. Thus was the fate of my Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow palette and why you see it here in its well-used, defiled glory.

But I think sometimes that’s good. Bloggers are human. We (most of us) use our products, and it is a sad day that we don’t, and just keep products to display. And sometimes, we rediscover products, and tell you about it.

When the Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow palette took the world by storm a few years ago, I had not yet figured out what bronzer did for me. I still had it in my head that a bronzer was to do with contouring the face. It is, but not in the Kardashian way.

I now use bronzing powders as a face warming powder. When I started getting the hang of it, I decided to add this popular palette to my growing collection of bronzing powders.

The Chanel Les Beiges 2018 collection expands and I think that’s great!

April 30, 2018 Paris B 4 Comments

In what has quickly become a favourite capsule makeup collection release of mine, the Chanel Les Beiges 2018 grabbed my fancy quite quickly. I previewed the items in the inaugural Beauty hors d’oeuvres segment, and I’ve finally had a go at some of the key releases.

As a range, the Les Beiges collection focuses on light makeup, laying emphasis on beautiful, healthy glowing skin, barely there makeup and a very natural vibe. It is no surprise therefore, that I fell for it. That is the sort of makeup I wear, and the sort of makeup I gravitate towards.

Those who prefer stronger, bolder colours may find the collection insipid. But this year, the Les Beiges takes on more colour, and that for me, is both a good and bad thing. Good, because it may appeal to a wider cross-section of the public. Bad, because it isn’t as fool-proof as it used to be.

I have a few key pieces of the collection, and will walk you through them as quickly as I can. You know how long-winded I can be 😛

Beauty hors d’oeuvres : Shiseido Essential Energy Moisturisers, By Terry Hippy Chic Summer 2018 and Chanel Les Beiges 2018 (LOVE!)

April 2, 2018 Paris B 4 Comments

After last week’s marathon blog content, I think you’re about as wiped as I am LOL! I haven’t blogged daily for a couple of years now, and I’d forgotten how much it really takes out of a person. I take my hats off to all the bloggers who are still churning out daily content, because guys, you deserve all the accolades you get. I can’t go there again. It’s too draining – physically and mentally.

With this in mind, I thought it would be nice to kick back with some little beauty hors d’oeuvres, or bite-sized appetizers in the beauty world. These are little snack-bites of some upcoming new releases that you can keep an eye out for, if it catches your fancy.

There are one or two that I will go into greater detail at a later date. But for now, grab an iced lemonade, kick back in your most comfortable chair, and enjoy these little beauty morsels 🙂
