5 Things I Love Vol. 11 : The whirlwind that was July

August 3, 2020 Paris B Leave a Comment

I met with some friends for the first time in months, and over lunch, we mused over what a blur the first half of the year has been. I said that as far as I’m concerned, 4 months of 2020 are a write-off.

We’ve entered August 2020, and I’m still struggling to figure out what I’ve been doing from March to June! LOL! I have been busy, that much I know.

5 things july 2020

Now that July 2020 is past, I’m looking back to see how the month has been, and to pick out 5 of the high spots of the month.

With most of life going back to normal for many of us this past month, I’m sure you too are seeing bright spots in your months so feel free to share with me too! 😀

Self-care is more than just a spa day

July 28, 2020 Paris B Leave a Comment

I have been thinking about the subject of self-care for a while. Self-care is a very important concept, but one which I feel has been rather commercialized. I’ve been thinking about it even more so since we’ve all been forced to stay indoors and avoid the most common methods of self-care that we’re accustomed to.

self-care at home

Self-care is something that I think we mouth platitudes about, but don’t really practice properly. Often, what we deem self-care is a trip to the spa, or some pampering in the form of a body massage or facial, or a bout of shopping.

I used to think the same, but now I view self-care differently. It is much much more than just a spa day 🙂

The One Skincare Tip I’d Like to Share: Be practical

July 15, 2020 Paris B 4 Comments

I’m often asked to recommend skincare products for people, or I’m asked if a particular brand or product is worth trying, or if expensive skincare are worth the money.

For some reason, people put their trust in my recommendations, and while that isn’t entirely a bad thing, it’s not a good thing either. I don’t mean that consulting someone you trust is bad, but you must remember this one thing – they aren’t you.

be practical about skincare

They don’t know what your skin is like, or how it behaves. Everyone is unique, with their own unique flaws and problems. They don’t know your budget, or your genetic make up.

When it comes to skincare and making recommendations, I have one principle to hold on to, and one skincare tip to share, and it is this – Be Practical.

YOUR SAY: Do you find yourself spending less on beauty products? Or do you plan to buy less?

July 10, 2020 Paris B 4 Comments

If there is one thing most of us have learnt from staying at home while keeping the corona virus at bay, it’s this – we need less than we want.

spending less on beauty

This is true of most things. Clothes, shoes, bags have fallen out of use while we schlepp around at home in our most comfortable clothes, and barefoot.

Most of us hardly even wore makeup while at home. Some did, for online meetings, but as I didn’t have any that couldn’t be dealt with via email or a phone call, I was makeup-free for at least 4 months.

I’ve only just started putting on very light makeup when I go out, which might explain the dearth of makeup product reviews 😛

While I ran through my skincare routine one day, I found myself wondering about whether this enforced period of restricted movement might have made people rethink their beauty spending habits.

Do you find yourself spending less on beauty products?
