Line and define those peepers with a selection of Pixi Beauty eyeliners

May 30, 2018 Paris B 35 Comments

A while ago, I shared with you one of my favourite eyeliners, which was the Pixi Beauty Endless Silky Eye Pen. A few weeks ago, I was surprised by a wee package by the folks at Pixi Beauty, who must have guessed at my love for their liners, because they sent me a few more! LOL!

I’m going to share some quick thoughts about these liners, and how they perform for me. However, as much as I enjoy using eyeliners, mascara is something I don’t use anymore. So, if you enjoy using mascara, and would like to have a go, I have a wee surprise for you below 😉

I only sampled the Three Aiming Cleansing Balm but it wormed its way into my affections as quickly as One, Two and Three!

May 28, 2018 Paris B 9 Comments

I recently shared with you one of my favourite cleansing balms, which naturally prompted rumblings of dissent over how hard it was to get hold of. I’ve come to be immune to such rumblings LOL! But I was thinking about it and remembered that I had recently sampled the Three Aiming Cleansing Balm, which had also captured my imagination, and which is easier to get hold of locally.

Three is a Japanese brand with an interesting holistic approach. If you are familiar with Japanese brands, you’d know there aren’t many that have this approach. The products in Three are made with botanical extracts using essential oils and have organic origins. To me, it comes across as having an aesthetic and story that feels different, from the normal scientific approach taken by most Japanese cosmetics brands.

I haven’t tried much from Three, so if you have, I’m naturally curious to know what you love about the brand and what I might try next. In my case, I have to say that my interest was piqued by my experience with a sample of the Three Aiming Cleansing Balm.

The REN Wake Wonderful Night-time Facial truly lets you wake up with wonderfully soft and smooth skin!

May 25, 2018 Paris B 4 Comments

One of my favourite skincare products is the wallet-busting priced Sunday Riley Good Genes serum. This serum contains lactic acid as its key ingredient, and aims to smooth, clarify and brighten skin. I have used up one bottle, and I was close to getting another. Then, about 2 years back, I stumbled on the REN Wake Wonderful Night-time Facial serum. Naturally, I had to buy it way before it ever reached our shores LOL!

REN is a brand I often keep an eye on, because I’ve generally had mostly good results from using their products. There is something I like about their fomulations and also how my skin takes to them. Naturally therefore, when I saw that the REN Wake Wonderful Night-Time Facial serum contains lactic acid as its key ingredient, my spidey senses began tingling.

Might this be a more affordable alternative to Sunday Riley Good Genes? 🙂

When people talk about having “good skin” do they really mean having “young skin”?

May 23, 2018 Paris B 31 Comments

Here’s something I often find disconcerting. When a man grows older, with his grey hair showing, and lines etched deep in his face, the general consensus is that he looks “distinguished”. A woman who has the same grey hair and lines etched in her face is dismissed as “old” or having “let herself go”. Why is this so?

This, I feel, is purely down to societal pressure for women to look forever young. Beauty isn’t in the eye of the beholder. It is in youth, like it or not, and women just aren’t allowed to grow old, or look old. When women grow older, their presence diminishes in the public eye. This happens to the best of us – just think about red carpet coverage and you’ll have to agree.

is good skin about just young skin

Because of this, women have been searching for the fountain of youth for decades. It is this vanity and pursuit of youth that keeps aestheticians in business, and plastic surgeons in their large mansions and fancy cars. It is this vanity and pursuit of youth, that makes us fall for every cream out there that promises to “reduce fine lines and wrinkles” despite the fact that it often doesn’t.

Frankly, as much as it troubles me, it also pisses me off that skin health is so tied with this preconceived notion of youth.
