My Makeup Must Have – Guerlain Meteorites Perles Illuminating powder

April 28, 2010 Paris B 68 Comments

I found out that for Summer 2010, Guerlain is updating their collection of Meteorites Perles loose pearls highlighter powder with new names, formulations and packaging. *whimper*

Its a good time for me to share my makeup must have which is the Guerlain Meteorites powder. You have been seeing me mention this one a lot and you might be wondering if its worth all the hype. After all, it costs a pretty penny and never goes on sale!

For me, it is worth every penny of the hype. I use this like a finishing powder. After I’m done putting on my foundation, whether powder or liquid, I swirl my fluffy Sonia Kashuk powder brush into my Guerlain Meteorites powder and dust it all over my face. There is no obvious difference, but if you look carefully, it does give your skin a luminous effect, diffusing fine lines, increasing luminosity and just making you glow. Best used when you have had a bad night.

You can also dust some powder with a large fluff brush under your eyes to help illuminate your under eye area and diffuse dark circles after applying concealer. I have never found a dupe in any other brand and I never want to because this is my little bit of luxury in the morning 🙂

I have the Meteorites in Mythic in the loose pearls and in Mythic Parfait in the Pressed Illuminating Powder. I just added Nacres de Mer Illuminating Powder to my collection. Its a limited edition item from Summer 2009 🙂 Do you want a review of this one even though its discontinued? Let me know and I’ll get down to it.

Guerlain does do a limited edition line of Meteorites perles in certain collections every year but I don’t collect these so I don’t buy them. I prefer to buy those that I know I’d use because these babies almost never ever finish.

I’ve since found out that for Summer 2010, Guerlain has revamped the packaging for the Guerlain Meteorites Perles, so it looks sleeker than ever. Dammit. Why can’t my loose pearls finish so I can replace the cardboard box with the new sleek metallic looking case?! Perhaps I just might anyway 😛

The new Guerlain Meteorites Perles will come in 3 colours :-

  • Harmony 01 Teint Rose (which looks like Mythic) – overall reduce redness, evens out complexion, illuminates skin
  • Harmony 02 Teint Beige (which looks like Beige Chic) – adds a warm glow to the skin
  • Harmony 03 Teint Dore – Reduces the yellow hue and to brighten a golden complexion

Retails at RM185 per tub but never finishes. Worth every penny you save up for. I might just get Teint Rose – eeks! Time to get saving!

I’ve most recently had 2 national makeup artists for 2 major brands tell me my skin looked flawless and luminous and glowing when I met them. Too bad neither of them were from Guerlain because I don’t think they would have liked me attributing my glow to my Guerlain Meteorites instead of their products! *hugs my Guerlain Meteorites* 😀

So you know how I feel about Guerlain Meteorites Perles. Have you tried them or do you own them? Do you love them as much as I do or do you think they are just hype? Do you want a review of Nacres des Mers even though its discontinued? 🙂

Guerlain Meteorites Perles Summer 2010 is expected to be in stores in May 2010

Nope it doesn’t break me out at all and I’ve never read of anyone breaking out from these. Oh perhaps I should mention the scent. Hmm… Go take a sniff and see if you like it first. I’d suggest Mythic – its the most user friendly and it gives the most amazing glow ever! 🙂

Ooh Wait for the new packaging! 😉 You just need a large fluffy brush – any brand will do though of course a nice soft one is better 🙂

I’m simply drooling at the sight of your Meteorites collection!! I’m hoping that they revamp the 3-colors-in-1 ones you only get at airports so i can get them all!! But then again, i think i’ll have most use for Mythic so i might just that Teint Rose… oh be still my heart!!! XD

Yes I’m evil *hangs head in shame* hehe… They might change those mini ones once the new packaging comes into play. I’ve seen those mini meteorites but its a bit too small to be honest. You can’t get a brush in there properly and the balls tend to fall out.

    Hi Paris,

Not to break your heart or anything, but Guerlain meteorites is on sale here in Singapore. 50%! All three colours of the loose pearls as well as Nacres des Mers. ^_^

Please review Nacres des Mers too. I would like to know the difference between this summer shade and the usual pressed powders.

        Sorry Jaslyn,

The loose pearls promo was for the whole of last week at Tangs Orchard. The pressed powder might still be available at Taka B2. One thing for sure, you could find lots of resellers online.

Yep at duty free they sell the mini set of 3. I don’t personally recommend it due to the fiddly size (and the balls keep leaping out coz there’s no space to swirl your brush) but otherwise its a good enough deal to try. 🙂

I tried them on my hand and it looks rather shimmery? Does it make your face shiny? My tzone gets rather oily and I don’t really wanna look like a disco ball :-p I might go check them out again this weekend.

It doesn’t make my skin shiny – it does seem that way on the back of the hand but I recommend using a fluffy brush (it picks up less and sheers it out) and buffing it lightly all over your face. I don’t get the disco ball look if it helps, just lots of compliments 🙂

i bought Nacres des Mers at around S$50 at the airport…
The smell is really heavy for me and i feel that the oil control is not that good for my oily skin (as in my face oiled up faster with this powder)
but I agree that it gives a luminous glow…. 😀

Yep the signature Guerlain scent isn’t quite for everyone. Actually the Meteorites offer no oil control whatsoever. Might not be one for the oily skinned ladies. But I’ve found that if I use a mattifying loose powder e.g. Make Up For Ever Super Matte and then dust a light layer of Meteorites over everything, it helps with the oilies and stops it looking too shiny yet keeps the glow 🙂

Oh I have the meteorites mini’s. I got them from HK Duty Free and apparently it’s a limited Asian edition. It’s a good thing that I have the minis because that way I can justify buying the new revamped meteorites collection LOL..

I’m “almost” done w/ Mythic and Beige Chic is halfway there. My favorite to use is Beige chic as an over all finishing powder, as this matches my skin tone perfectly. I use the Pink one rarely as a blush, but since it’s very sheer, I only use it when I have dramatic eye or dramatic lip makeup. I use Mythic whenever I’m using cool colors on my eyeshadow or lipstick (w/c recently has been very frequently) . I have oily skin, and I have no problem w/ this. This is a must have in my makeup routine. I sort of feel incomplete w/o my meteorites on LOL.

The opening of the minis are very small though, so I have a hard time using & swirling my fluffy brush. But the trick I learned is shaking the box so the powders become loose. So I just dip my brush to get the product, like a loose powder and swirl it to my face.

I’m going to buy the Teint Beige and Teint Dore once I’m done with my meteorites! I’m so excited I can’t wait!

Maybe I always wonder how do i actually use them.. Do u break the meeorites into powder form on ur palm n use a brush? or what’s the correct way of using it? forgive me if this is a dumb question! 😀

How to use: Lightly shake box, Open cover, dip powder brush in and swirl over the coloured balls. Apply to face. Repeat if necessary 🙂

You don’t see a lot of powder on the brush. I don’t on mine anyway but it applies enough to my skin and you can layer it to your satisfaction.

Use it after foundation or after putting on all your makeup. It doesn’t change anything coz it doesn’t add colour so you can use it on top of makeup 🙂

I just checked and I think Meteorites Illuminating Perfecting Pressed Powder (what a mouthful!) in 02 Rose Frais is a permanent item. Not sure if they’ll be revamping that too cuz it’s way better than the Meteorites loose perles in Pink Fresh which is a tad too shimmery. Am gonna get a backup just in case!

A kabuki brush might lay it on too thick. You want a sheer dusting all over your face. Still, if you can control your kabuki brush you could try it. I prefer a fluffy brush 🙂

I find my guerlain mythic balls too sheer and my esprique precious balls a tad too shimmery.
Hence, I have since crushed them up and voilà! A nice formula that impart a slightly more luminous glow that’s a bit more visible but not screaming for attention.

As I’ve told Anne L. in a previous reply to the same question, yes you can use it over sunscreen. I don’t know how effective it will be but you can try. As for whether it clogs pores, I wouldn’t know as it did not clog mine and I have not really come across any complaints of this nature. I’ve told Sugar above that I haven’t heard of people breaking out so perhaps it doesn’t. Still, if you have very sensitive skin, it could happen.Who knows! Thanks for coming by!
