Review: Dior Diorskin Nude Natural Glow Hydrating Makeup SPF10

August 31, 2009 Paris B 31 Comments

When I read a few months ago that this was Temptalia’s new favourite foundation, I could not wait for it to get here. Now that its here, I can tell you what I think of it! 🙂 I haven’t used any Dior liquid foundation prior to this so I cannot compare.

diorskin nude liquid foundation

We know by now I’m anti-liquid foundation that’s thick and cakey. So, I always go for liquid foundation that offers light and sheer coverage. I don’t mind that. This new Diorskin Nude Natural Glow Hydrating foundation is the same – it offers sheer to medium coverage and contains 40% mineralized water.

What all that means is that it feels very light on my skin and does not dry out my skin in the day yet does not rub off easily. I find coverage medium-light depending on how you apply it but yet it has this lovely ability to make my skin look quite flawless and heaven knows, it isn’t!

When I combine the Diorskin Nude liquid foundation with the Diorskin Nude loose powder and then dust Porcelain Pink MSF or even better yet, Diorskin Shimmer Powder in Rose Diamond over – by golly! I damn well glow with near perfect skin! 😀 Even I can’t stop looking at myself in every reflective surface I pass – and anyone who knows me will tell you I’m not THAT vain 😉 Monica Belluci eat your heart out!

The texture is a little thick to the feel but it does not feel heavy on the skin. In fact, I get a slight cooling feel. The coverage is medium-light so if you’d prefer something heavier, you may have to apply more. For me, 2 pumps suffice. If I want more coverage, I use the Diorskin Nude loose powder with a kabuki or flat top brush which adds coverage. It does give a more made up look so I reserve this for wearing at night. For other times, I just dust a light layer of loose powder over to set the foundation. Unlike the Anna Sui Moisture foundation, this one did not make me oily – yay! 🙂

This new foundation is Dior’s foray into mineral makeup using mineralized water and mineral pigments but they did not commit to me that this is a mineral foundation. Purists will argue it isn’t but never mind purists – I think its a lovely foundation either way.

I take this in 010 – Ivory the lightest shade which looks white but works on my skin. I have one little grouse and that is that 010 is slightly pink. Just a tiny touch. It does not make me look super red which is a good thing but I might have preferred if it was just a touch more neutral. That said, pink is the colour of radiance so perhaps it adds to the radiant glowy look? I’m not sure.

Dior says that this new Diorskin Nude foundation contains skincare benefits so prolonged use is beneficial for your skin. I have not been using it long enough to attest to this but I will gently remind you that makeup is makeup and should be properly removed at the end of the day. What they mean is that wearing it will not harm your skin, not keeping it on even while you sleep … but we also already know that right? 😉 I’ve been using it for nearly a month – no breakouts, no reactions – yay!

A 50ml bottle costs RM140 at all Dior counters. Its about the usual price for department store brands so I won’t consider it super expensive. Besides like many others, I prefer spending more on foundations than on colours because nothing beats a great foundation to make a good canvas!

Pros: Lightweight, Not drying, Light coverage

Cons: Light coverage, shades have pink tones which may not suit everyone

Whats your perfect liquid foundation?

So finding 2 liquid foundations in a year that both work well for me makes me very a happy camper! Aside from this one, the other one I love is the Lancome Maquiliquide UV Infinite foundation. I’ve learnt that liquid foundations have their benefits – it is kinder to dry skin and has the potential to give a “glow from within” compared to powder foundation which can be cakey if applied too thick. Powder foundation is still #1 in my books but I’m learning to use liquid foundation too.

Have you found your perfect liquid foundation? Have you tried the DiorSkin Nude foundations? If not, get down to a Dior counter and give it a shot – I can tell you that the lady at Dior Robinsons The Gardens is friendly and helpful 🙂

Stay beautiful,

Paris B

I was curious too about this foundation since Temptalia’s review. Glad to read your perspective on this, because my skin type is more similar to yours. A lot of foundations tend to be too pink for me, and this sounds like it may be the same way. Thanks for the review 🙂

      Hi Blue

If you take the colour I took, its not very pink. I believe 020 may be less pink but its a tad too dark for me.

This foundation is great! Dior sells a No. 21 Linen, which is yellow-based and suitable for Asian complexions. However, this is not sold in all markets globally.

      Hi Jamilla

Thanks for the heads up! I was color matched to 010 Ivory because anything higher was a tad too dark 🙁

Aiyo, your freckles is so light. It’s barely noticeable. I won’t have noticed it if you didn’t put the arrow there. LOL

      Hi Srank

It stands up very well actually. No oiliness or streakiness for me. But I do dust a little loose powder over to set.

Great foundation, right, Paris? Agree with what you said about combining it with the Loose Powder to look more made up. Am happy to know that you’re enjoying it too – and no breakouts!

I tried Diorskin Nude loose powder at the Dior counter. Like the texture and it looks very natural on my skin. I didn’t tried the foundation coz initially only think of buying the loose powder. I should go to try the foundation and see whether how it looks like on my skin. Oh…. my pocket will have a big hole soon….!

      Hi Pink Cotton

I find this a little different from the Lancome Maquiliquide liquid foundation. The Lancome one feels a little bit lighter on the skin but both have high water content and don’t make me oily. The Lancome one feels a little sheerer too compared to the Dior which is slightly more opaque. Colorwise, I found the Dior one a little pink compared to Lancome but it might be the colour chosen. Its hard to choose between the two 😛

This foundation doesn’t work quite well on my combination skin..cause my skin gets oily on the t-zone during the day,and even if I add powder to the t-zone it seems that with this foundation my face looks oilier, though not on cheeks. Such a shame :/ thank god I got a sample and tried this few days, and noticed it isn’t the best one for my skin. Though I’m still so tempted to buy this product cause it (atleast claims) to be 100% natural. Blaah dunno what to do 🙁 i was so excited cause it’s mineral based and liquid, cause I don’t like mineral powder foundations.

This foundation gets fantastic reviews, however, I have had trouble finding what skin type it suits (even though it sounds like it suits all as its mineral) my skin is combination (oily t zone and dry along the jaw bone) which can mean some foundations look oily on top and flaky at the jaw, do you know if Dior suits combination skin?

I have combination skin (oilier T zone and drier cheeks) and it suits my skin fine without turning oily. Do see if you can try to get a sample to see if it will suit you.
