Tips: Don’t throw away those samples!

February 29, 2008 Paris B 11 Comments

samples

I always ask for samples when I’m at a beauty counter and usually, sales assistants are happy to oblige. Well, some aren’t so happy but I get round them anyway 😛 After all, these samples (usually of skincare) are there to be given out so people can try a product to see if they like it before they buy it. Also, you sometimes get generous deluxe sizes of samples or gifts with purchase that can be very useful.

I always keep a box of samples of various skincare or makeup items handy and there are a few reasons why I like having product samples:-Continue Reading

Review: Makeup: Make Up For Ever Lift Concealer

February 28, 2008 Paris B 7 Comments

make up for ever lift concealer

After being rather frustrated with the texture of Make Up Store’s wand concealer, I decided to forsake it and got myself a tube of Make Up For Ever Lift Concealer.

What I like about Make Up For Ever’s (MUFE) Lift Concealer is that it comes in a tube form. I feel its more hygienic as it is a product I use everyday. I use my fingers to apply this concealer although you can also use a brush.

The texture is more runny that that of Make Up Store and I find that the texture is lighter and more liquid. This however translates into light to medium coverage for very dark circles. On days when I have a bad night, it doesn’t quite cover the dark circles. However, on other days, it does it job quite well.

According to the product description on the website:

Lift Concealer hides bags and slight unevenness in skin color in a natural way. Its formula, with a tensine base, improves skin tone and smoothes the lines around the eyes.

It does all it says and is further supposed to have a slight illuminating effect. However, I don’t find this illuminating effect a very prominent feature. I have read about people finding that the concealer sinks into the fine lines around their eyes. However, as I don’t really have that problem at this point in time I am unable to verify it.

I use No. 3 which is a medium tone and I think most people of medium-fair skintone should be able to take this colour. It matches my skintone and looks natural on. After applying on the concealer, I then dust on some loose powder or a light swipe of powder foundation and I’m good to go.

I do find it fades throughout the day which is a pity. Apparently, you can even apply this on top of foundation, like Full Cover, and I think it would help with more coverage. I was told by the sales assistant that you can apply it along the sides of your nose or even on your cheekbones before foundation as it has an illuminating effect. However, I’ll stick to using it as a concealer for the under eye area.

A 15ml tube retails for RM70 and is available at Make Up For Ever counters which are presently found at U Parkson (1 Utama New Wing) and KLCC (Centre Court by British India). I think the price is fair as a little bit of product goes a very long way, and I can see one tube lasting a long long time as I only use it for my under eye area. I use Full Cover for all other blemishes and I’m still finishing up my first tube after nearly a year! As it fades I’m not likely to repurchase this concealer so its back to the drawing board for me!

Pros: Reasonable price, hygienic packaging, good coverage
Cons: Fades throughout the day, Coverage can be a little thin

Stay beautiful,

Bobbi Brown Nude collection – Spring 2008

February 27, 2008 Paris B 5 Comments

Bobbi Brown launched a Pink Raspberry look for Spring 2008 and I found it underwhelming. However, Bobbi Brown has also launched a Nude Collection set for release in March 2008 in the USA. I don’t know what it is about cosmetic companies and nude collections. MAC Cosmetics have also launched their N Collection which is a bunch of nude or neutral colours too. Coming from a company that thrives on colour, that is truly strange.

Anyway, here is a sneak preview of Bobbi Brown’s Nude Collection:

Bobbi Brown Nude collection

The main item is the Nude Eye and Lip palette. 4 nude eye colours i.e. 4 varying shades of beige and 4 lip colours i.e. 4 varying shades of brown.

I think it looks boring. The 4 eyeshadow shades – Buff Shimmer Wash, Nude Shimmer Wash, Bare and Naked – have little variation to create much definition. There is no dark colour that could be used for lining or for use in the crease so effectively you get 4 base shades.

I always found Bobbi Brown lip colours too brown for my liking. My natural lip color is a medium rose red shade so brown colours on my lips make them look odd not natural.

So overall, I think this is a very safe palette for anyone wanting to put colour on their faces without looking like they put any colour on. Kind of makes me wonder why 😛

Update 7 March 2008: It will retail at RM210 at Bobbi Brown counters

Contour Express Gym – a fitness centre for women

February 27, 2008 Paris B Leave a Comment

I’m not much of a gym-goer. I find the atmosphere in a gym quite oppressive and there is an element of competition as well, for if you aren’t truly as fit as some of the other people you see, its easy to get demoralized. And there is also the men factor. Some women don’t feel nice trying to exercise with men checking them out at every opportunity.

Enter Contours Express, a women gym. Contours Express is a fitness centre for women and operate on a women only basis. These days, it might just be safer to join such gyms.Continue Reading
