Like my new header?

February 26, 2008 Paris B 8 Comments

I decided to take away the stark plain look of the header to this site and replace it with something softer and more feminine as befits My Women Stuff.

Do we like it? Please say yes … hehe 🙂

Review: Makeup: Canmake Micro Loose Powder

February 25, 2008 Paris B 1 Comment

I saw these cute little tubs of loose powder at the Canmake counter in Sasa and I just had to try it. For the uninitiated, Canmake is a range of cheap makeup from Japan that is super cute and in some cases, have pretty decent quality.

The Micro Loose powder comes in a little plastic tub with a cute puff and there are 4 colors:

  • 001 – Baby Beige – Semi matte texture with beige/translucent colour
  • 002 – Fairly Pearl – beige with shimmer
  • 003 – Venus Shiny – Light gold with shimmer
  • 004 – Terracotta Bronze – bronze with shimmer

Other than 001, the other 3 colours have shimmer in them which is quite overpowering if you are planning to use it on your face. I dabbed the powder on the back of my hand, and even then, found it way too shimmery for use on the face. However, if you have a party to go to and want some cheap shimmer powder that you can use all over your face and body, this might be a good option without breaking your bank. It retails for RM36.90 or thereabouts.

I don’t take aspirin for headaches or pains – it isn’t common here in Malaysia where paracetamol is usually more popular. That said, I learnt of a useful tip of using aspirin as a facial mask and here is my recipe for the aspirin mask.Continue Reading

Does my favourite cosmetic company test on animals?

February 20, 2008 Paris B

Please note this information was accurate as at February 2008. Things might have changed  by the time you read this. If it matters to you please check other sites for information. Comments are closed for now.

Animal testing in cosmetics is a huge and controversial topic that I do not intend to get into but I can’t help but notice that there are many people who want to know which companies test on animals and which companies do not test on animals.

Here are 2 online sources where you can find a list of companies that test and do not test on animals. (Animal Testing and Caring Consumer) They are by no means comprehensive as new companies appear every day and company policies do change from time to time.

As a sampling, here’s a list of companies that do not test on animals as at the date of writing (2008):

  • Avon
  • Amway
  • Bare Escentuals
  • Beiersdorf Inc – Nivea, Eucerin, La Prairie
  • Blackmores
  • Bobbi Brown
  • Burts Bees
  • Christian Dior
  • Clarins
  • Crabtree & Evelyn
  • Dermalogica
  • H20+
  • Jurlique
  • L’Occitane
  • La Mer
  • LUSH
  • MAC Cosmetics
  • OPI
  • Origins
  • Revlon
  • Smashbox Cosmetics
  • Stila
  • The Body Shop

This is by no means an endorsement nor critique but if it matters to you then I hope the information is of use.
