What’s so special about the Shu Uemura Hard Formula Brow Pencil that gets it a repeat review?

October 25, 2011 Paris B 51 Comments

I don’t usually repeat reviews (I first reviewed this back in 2007) but I’m making an exception for this product, because its withstood the test of time and because I’ve had quite a few requests asking me what I use for my brows and when I say its the Shu Uemura Hard Formula Brow Pencil, I’ve had reviews requested. After much procrastination, here it is 🙂

shu uemura hard brow pencil review

This product is one of Shu Uemura’s iconic products – their Top 5 alongside their cleansing oil, deep sea water mist and eyelash curler. I can also vouch for the last which I also use daily.

So, what is so special about this pencil? I attribute it to the lead used, and the shape.

The lead is quite hard, and if you try drawing a line on the back of your hand, you get little to nothing. Its easy to say “Ah crap! What a waste of money!” But the beauty really is that it doesn’t mark your skin but the colour grabs onto hair and colours it quite easily and naturally. We want natural looking brows, not brows that look stenciled on (You can get a tattoo for that 😛 ) and this pencil is great for that.

Of course, the special shape plays a part in making this one easy to use too 🙂

Day to Night Eye Makeup : Tips from Shu Uemura featuring Color Atelier eyeshadows

September 26, 2011 Paris B 16 Comments

Very recently, chat buddy from over the oceans LeGeeque asked if I had any tips for day to night makeup, because she had an evening event to go to after work. My answer to her then was imbecilic at best because I don’t usually do these day to night transitions 😛 I think I might have mentioned touching up the base, making the eye colour stronger and perhaps a bright lipstick, because that’s how I’d have done it. Actually I’d have only changed my lipstick to something brighter 😛

Not long after that, I received some tips for day to night makeup from Lisa Yap, Chief Makeup Artist at Shu Uemura Malaysia so I thought it a good time to share it, so hopefully it helps someone else too 😀 If its not obvious, the eye on your left sports darker night/evening makeup while the one on your right sports a lighter day look.

Here are some quick tips you can take away and practice with 🙂

Shu Uemura Fresh Pore Clarifying Cleansing Oil : For use with wet hands too!

September 21, 2011 Paris B 38 Comments

I usually like using something before telling you about it, but this one is such an icon and so interesting (to me and possibly to most cleansing oil users) that I just have to share 🙂 I stopped by the Shu Uemura boutique earlier today and was asked if I knew about the latest cleansing oil innovation. They are proud of their cleansing oils at Shu Uemura. They were No. 1 awarded cleansing oil brand based on Yahoo beauty and have won innumerable awards. I wonder how they’ll do at the MWS Awards 😉

I’m no stranger to Shu Uemura cleansing oils. They were one of my first introductions to cleansing oils and it was at the Shu Uemura counter that I was taught how to use them for the first time. The thing that’s been drilled into me over and over is “Always start with dry hands! Always!”

Ah but now you don’t have to because the new reformulated Shu Uemura Fresh Pore Clarifying Cleansing Oil works even with WET hands. Did I just hear a collective sigh of relief go up? 😀

MWS Weekend Poll No. 9 : Flutter those falsies at the Shu Uemura Tokyo Lash Bar

July 9, 2011 Paris B 26 Comments

Happy Saturday Ladies!

I attended the Shu Uemura Tokyo Lash Bar event during the week – an annual event where Shu Uemura showcases their newest avant garde false eye lashes for the year. Its usually limited edition and very exclusive. Last year’s collection was all about the future and was all bling and shiny. This year, Shu Uemura went down to earth with a tribal theme – Ethnocolor Scope.

Clockwise from top: Green Folklore, Ethnic Charm, Tribal Patch and Oriental Arch

I found this year’s collection much more attractive compared to the shiny metallic mess of last year’s. I think its all that colour that grabs me. I love colour! 😀 I can’t necessarily wear these (who can?) but they sure are pretty to look at.

1. Do you wear false lashes?

Very very rarely. I don’t quite like the extra weight on my lids and I have an immortal fear of it dropping or becoming unglued while I’m in the middle of dinner or an event! *gasp*

2. Do you know how to wear false lashes?

Nope. I tried once or twice but I find it too much hassle. If I really have an event or dinner I need to wear falsies to, I’d have them put on by professionals.
