Getting to the point with the Shu Uemura Point Cealer : A Small Wonder That Does A Big Job Well

I don’t talk much about concealers do I? Its not because I don’t use them (Heaven knows, I’d look like the walking dead without concealer!) but its because I’m super picky about my concealers. I’m so picky, I don’t stray very far, nor do I experiment very much. Ths one that works best for me is the Make Up For Ever Full Cover, for blemishes, and Dior Skinflash for illuminating the under eye (use #2 for the under eye. #1 is way too pink!). I will be renewing my review on the MUFE one soon because I’ve got some new thoughts on it after more than 5 years being loyal to that.

But today, I wanted to tell you about this dinky little wonder that I’ve been using for a few months, and never told you about. I’ve got to remedy this now 🙂 Its the Shu Uemura Point Cealer – a very dinky little pen-like contraption that I like because it not only works well to cover up blemishes, it also works for the under eye area! A 2-in-1 concealer. Perfect-o! I’ll show you the proof in the pictures below 😉

Nailing It! Shu Uemura Festive Rouge Festive Nails and some Festive Nail Ideas

Part of their collaborative collection (introduced by ParisB here) includes nail polish duos with a solid color and a glittery companion, and I excitedly played with a red and gold combination, appropriately named Festive Rouge.

Perhaps I’m wrong, but have we seen any other makeup – film director collaborations before this? I don’t think there is one. Well, until the Shu Uemura x Wong Kar Wai collection for Christmas 2011 🙂

In a bit of a twist, Shu Uemura chose to collaborate with Hong Kong film director Wong Kar Wai instead of conventional figures like artists or fashion designers. The one movie that really jumped out at me whenever I hear Wong Kar Wai is In the Mood for Love. Does anyone remember that? When it came out in 2000, Maggie Cheung and her gorgeous gorgeous cheongsams were the talk of the town! She and the movie singlehandedly jump started a renewed interest in cheongsams. Do watch it if you can, if not for the story, for the film direction and the beautiful costumes of period Shanghai 🙂

So with that sort of whimsical film background, what can you expect from the Shu Uemura x Wong Kar Wai collection?

Well, strong colours for one. With eyeshadow palettes dramatically named “Drowning in Flame” (purples) and “Burning in Water” (blues) and dramatic red lipsticks and lashes, this collection is dramatic – just like a Wong Kar Wai movie 🙂 I could tell you about the whole collection but there are LOADS of info on the internet already. You could just check out Xin’s report if you like. I initially was interested in the blue palette “Burning in Water” but when I found out that the red colour is a cream blush and not a lipstick, my interest faded very quickly. I also found the shadows a little powdery. I was also interested in the red lipstick. Deep red with golden flecks in it. But it felt gritty when applied and I dislike lipsticks that feel that way, no matter how pretty they may be.

So when I ended up with the Shu Uemura x Wong Kar Wai Flashing Gold Mini Brush Set in my lucky draw bag, I was rather pleased. I could always do with more brushes! Yay!

It was also very opportune that I noticed that this brush set isn’t talked about very much from this collection. I wanted to know why and I naturally, wanted to know if it was in fact any good at all. I own a holiday brush set from the Shu Uemura x Mika Ninagawa collection from a couple of years back and that was quite good. Besides its a Shu Uemura brush set – lets see how far wrong … or right it can be 🙂

Lipstick Bandit on the loose! Raise a (NARS) Manhunt!

Ladies,

I’m not one to advocate joining gangs – makes me want to don a baseball cap back to front and wear massive bling. But I have recently been invited to join one and like many gangs, its hard to say no especially when they are persistent 😉 They call themselves the Lipstick Bandits but the only thing this gang does is terrorize your wallet by making you WANT more and more lipsticks. Especially the red ones. The redder the better. I think I’ve found my niche 🙂

At the pestering urging of Rae, I was unwittingly happily co-opted into this lipstick loving gang. And like all not-so-secret societies, I needed to be initiated. Here is my initiation.

A month ago, I’d have laughed and said “Pish! Me, do something creative with makeup? You gotta be kidding! I don’t have a creative bone in my body!” That’s what I told Rae the first time she asked. But then I celebrated a birthday recently and with age, as they say, you lose your wisdom 😛 Suddenly you think “There’s nothing I can’t do if I just put my mind to it!” And so when Rae sneakily (banditly?) asked again, I said yes. I did this, on the eve of turning a year older but looking back, not very much wiser 🙂
