Shu Uemura Fresh Pore Clarifying Cleansing Oil : For use with wet hands too!

September 21, 2011 Paris B 38 Comments

I usually like using something before telling you about it, but this one is such an icon and so interesting (to me and possibly to most cleansing oil users) that I just have to share 🙂 I stopped by the Shu Uemura boutique earlier today and was asked if I knew about the latest cleansing oil innovation. They are proud of their cleansing oils at Shu Uemura. They were No. 1 awarded cleansing oil brand based on Yahoo beauty and have won innumerable awards. I wonder how they’ll do at the MWS Awards 😉

I’m no stranger to Shu Uemura cleansing oils. They were one of my first introductions to cleansing oils and it was at the Shu Uemura counter that I was taught how to use them for the first time. The thing that’s been drilled into me over and over is “Always start with dry hands! Always!”

Ah but now you don’t have to because the new reformulated Shu Uemura Fresh Pore Clarifying Cleansing Oil works even with WET hands. Did I just hear a collective sigh of relief go up? 😀

The new formula of the Shu Uemura Fresh Pore Clarifying Cleansing Oil (Pink bottle) works even if you use wet hands to work it. I was a little doubtful but I gave it a go in store, as suggested and had the cleansing oil pumped into my damp hands. It does not emulsify immediately upon contact with water, as normal.

You use it the same way. Spread it on your skin, massage off your makeup, add water and emulsify and then rinse off. It does emulsify and thin out when you work the water in. But the difference I think, is that it does not immediately emulsify and turn white upon contact with water. This is such a boon for some of us who step into the shower, wet our hands and then go “Oh crap! I forgot to wash my face!” and then have to get out of the shower, dry your hands and start over.

I break out from Shu Uemura cleansing oils, so I don’t think I’ll be getting this one. But if you are a fan of their oils already, bear this one in mind the next time you want to replenish, and like the idea of being able to use this with wet or dry hands 🙂 For now, only the pink version has been reformulated. I’m not sure when or if the rest will be.

Are you a fan of the Shu Uemura cleansing oils? Are you glad to know about this reformulation?

Paris B

Shu Uemura Cleansing Oils come in 6 varieties and retail at RM110-120/150ml and RM270-290/450ml depending on the ingredients.

phwoar, amplified sakura power! I used to like Shu’s oils but after discovering Mandom’s water cleanser, i’m not going back! (i’m getting one step closer to having the ultimate minimalist drawers and cupboards :P)

I love the water cleanser you mentioned too, but do you think they can remove water-resistant sunblock? I never can tell if my sunblock is removed completely, so I stick with a cleansing oil. I would love to be able to switch to the cleansing water though!

Hi AT – I usually doublecleanse at night with the Mandom water cleanser and my usual cleanser. Mandom does a pretty good job of removing my foundation + primer so I reckon it’s enough, but just use 2 or 3 cotton swipes to be sure 🙂

Does it come in a tube? I used a Mandom cleansing something that comes in a tube once – random purchase because I forgot my makeup remover – and it was surprisingly quite good!

I tried my very first Shu Uemura cleansing oil last year but I didn’t like how fatty it felt on dry hands. The scent is also displeasing… like cleaning my face with canola oil! I much prefer using at least damp hands with cleansing oils but Shu wouldn’t have it! I’m glad to see we have a choice now!

LOL! You must be using the green premium AO one? That was my first one and I almost swear off Shu cleansing oil. It seemed to clog my pores, and yes, it smelled bad. SA thought that was too rich for my skin, so I tried the pink one next. It smells better and no clogging. I’m now using the blue White Recovery Ex. Mild pleasant smell and no problems. 🙂

I do find that Shu Uemura’s oils do feel heavier and thicker in consistency compared to the other brands I’ve tried. I’m not sure which one you used but the new pink one had no scent so you could try to see if you can snaffle a sample of it 😉

Always wanted to try Shu’s cleansing oils but scared that it will break me out too. Me n my gfs r planning to buy one day. Lol. Wonder when that day will come. Hahaha. Can’t bear to part with our dollars.

Btw they sell refills as well! I saw it last Friday. Didn’t ask how much though.

Try to ask and see if the store will let you have a sample of the cleansing oils. Sometimes, they have sachets they can let you try which are good for at least 2 uses 🙂 I didn’t know that about the refills, thanks for the info! 😀

One bottle of their cleansing oil lasts me for an eternity! I’ve only been on my 2nd bottle of cleanser so far and I’ve got no issues with it at all!

This new formulation sounds like a winner all-round – pink(!) and workable with damp hands. BUT, I’m always very cautious with new formulas. Don’t mess with something that already works, that’s my mantra (though I love breaking stuff at work, hee hee)

Hey, you’re supposed to use at least 4 pumps you know! At least that’s what they tell me 😛 And yes, it might work now, but it might also break people out after that. That said, maybe it’ll STOP breaking me out? Hmm…

I just don’t know how you gals can use cleansing oils 🙁 Each time I try the Biore one I have, it feels like it doesn’t emulsify completely, and I’ll end up finishing with good ol’ foaming wash =/

But I experienced that with the Biore one too! I didn’t like it because it doesn’t feel clean 😛 That said, I always double cleanse so maybe that’s why I’m not so bugged if it doesn’t feel squeaky clean the first time 🙂

I tried this when my friend and I went in to Shu Uemura, It was nice and clean right after cleansing… but after a while like maybe 30 mins when I start to sweat a little, I can feel the spot where I tried on one hand turns super oily… I think the oil stays there… Don’t think I will ever get this one. Still prefer the H20+ Face Oasis Cleansing Water…

eeps! Did it? I slapped on some skincare after that because I felt a little dry. I’ve tried that H20+ one too! Its not bad – light. I should perhaps mention it some time on my blog before I finish it up 😀

Really really? How did you find it? Oooo so anxious for a review from you. I gave a little sample from mine to a few friends and all of them loved it so much. After all it’s oil free so it’s a plus for me. I am so lazy these days and don’t even use toner coz even alcohol free ones stings my cheeks and I hardly use moisturiser 😛 Oh btw it’s great for washing makeup brushes and you need very little only and it doesn’t dry them out 😀

The H20+ one? I think for light makeup removal, its pretty good. Can’t get rid of the very tough stuff. I better salvage my bottle before I toss it and forget to mention it at some point! 😀

Perhaps its the composition of the cleansing oils that aren’t good for you. I can’t use Shu Uemura or DHC either. I don’t know why I can’t use Shu, but DHC is because of the olive oil.

Shu was my first love in oil cleansers… but they got too expensive compared to the drugstore ones which are easily available these days.

But because of this post, I’m gonna revisit the pink bottle again! <3 <3 <3

How timely your post is! I was just contemplating my next purchase as I’m halfway thru my 2nd huge bottle. I’ll be keen to try this one definitely! I always follow-up with a foaming cleanser anyway, so no worries abt face remaining oily. Just hope this one agrees with my skin and doesn’t break me out!

Shu Uemura’s cleansing oil is very nice. There was a time when I fell in love with it, but its price is also intimidating. I can’t afford it on a long-term basis. For now, I’ve switched to cheaper brands.

I personally find that most cheaper cleansing oils work well enough for me to do the job they are intended to 🙂 That said I do break out from Shu Uemura oils so I’m less tempted that way 🙂

Lol, I do think I’m one of them that heave a huge sign of relief knowing that this cleansing oil can be used on wet hands. But I’m not a fan of Shu’s cleansing oils, after rinsing off properly there’s still an oily feeling zz. I’m a much bigger fan of Laneige’s cleansing oils tho.

There are a couple of brands out there that you can use with wet hands too. If I”m not mistaken, the Biore one is the same 🙂 I haven’t tried Laneige cleansing oils to be honest. I wasn’t even aware of them until just recently!

I’ve been using it for the past 10 yrs!I’ve tried all range, now sticking to the green one.Its the best, hassle free makeup remover for my thick eyeliner and stubborn mascara plus other makeups residues.I heard the DHC is equally good, at the same time heard that it does cause breakouts too.

Shu Uemura cleansing oils are truly an icon! Glad that it works well for you 🙂 DHC has had excellent raves too but I’m one of those with breakouts due to the olive oil in there that my skin dislikes for some reason.

talking about breaking out, i really have no idea what makes my skin breakout? how do you test and trial??? it might be anything! each time I read about something that im using that makes people breakout, I will not dare to use it anymore 🙁 this just results in lotsa unfinished products and no improvement to my skin. is it my clarisonic?(decide to stop for a while) or my DHC cleansing oil? (stop completely) is it the bioderma h2o michellar lotion that I use to remove makeup not deep cleansing enough?? is it my ettusais mineral bb cream and powder?? is it my clarins sunscreen or any of my naruko skincare products?? ugh!! sorry for the rant 🙁

Don’t try too many things at one go. Sometimes that can be irritating to the skin. What I do is introduce new items one at a time so I know that if I break out, its likely to be the new item causing it.
