Elemis – Collagen Marine Anti-Aging Luxury Skincare

March 12, 2009 Paris B 20 Comments

When you hit the big 3-0 suddenly you start wearing your skin looser. Suddenly, late nights start to take their toll and your skin starts looking dull and tired and ohmygoodness! Is that a fine line I see on my forehead/ around my eyes / around my mouth?

Not that I’m not enjoying being in my 30s. I’m having more fun in my 30s than I ever did in my 20’s so yay to all 30-somethings! 😀

When I was introduced to the Elemis luxury brand of anti-aging skincare which originates from the UK, I was more than a little intrigued and not a little sceptical. Was this going to be another La Mer fiasco for me? I have used La Mer Creme before – it did zilch for my skin and instead turned me into a zit battleground from which I’m still bearing the scars of war.

elemis skincare

Elemis is a brand from the UK that started out by being sold in spas. I call them a luxury skincare brand because their prices are steep and out of reach of the masses but I might find myself saving up for one or two products that have done wonders for me. If you are in your 20s or early 30s then it is too early to use anything anti-aging and Elemis will not be for you – its not bad for you but its just wasted on your young skin. But if you are mid-30s and up, then Elemis might be something you could be wanting to save up for.

The star product for me and it would appear, for many people is the Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream.  Continue Reading

Review: Skincare: Mukti Organic Rosehip Eye Gel

January 15, 2009 Paris B 15 Comments

I must admit I’m a lazy sort of person. I’m even too lazy to use an eye cream most of the time. In fact, a while ago, I actually pondered upon whether one really needs an eye cream. At that time, and until recently, I wasn’t using any specific cream for the eye area. I just never felt the need to.

Mukti Rosehip Eye Gel

However, due to some bad nights I noticed that my eye area was slightly puffy and had dark circles which made me look like a close cousin of a panda. So, I picked up the Mukti Organics Rosehip eye gel to try, pretty much on a whim.

What I found was that the Mukti  eye gel was working well for me. The texture of the eye gel is light and it absorbs quickly. You only need very very little and so a bottle goes a long long way. I would however hesitate to call it a “gel” because it looks and feels like a light cream.

As Mukti Organics prides themselves on being fully certified organic, their product comes in an air-tight pump bottle. Good and bad. Good because it keeps the product untainted by air; bad because you can’t tell how much product is left in the bottle. Also, the nozzle sometimes gets a little stuck when an air bubble hits, but Mukti has anticipated that so there are instructions in the box telling you what to do when you encounter this. I just keep pumping till something gives 😛 Sometimes also, the nozzle is blocked by the dried residue of the gel. It bothers me because I’m wondering just how much gel I will waste in time!

According to the Mukti site, the “Vitamins and gel based formula will assist to sooth puffy, tired eyes. Firms and tones the skin around the delicate eye area.” and after 1 month, it was time to check the results.

Review: Skincare: Asiatic Beauty Antea Age Anti-Aging Cream

January 8, 2009 Paris B 13 Comments

A while ago, I was contacted by Julea of Asiatic Beauty, a Malaysian cosmetics company, to help test a couple of her products. Being Malaysian, I am always supportive of local ventures, so I agreed and Julea sent me the Asiatic Beauty Antea Age anti-aging cream.

Antea Age antiaging cream

I was quite surprised to see the tube the cream came in. It was slim and only contained 20g of product so I was a little puzzled as to whether it was a treatment serum, in which case I’d use it sparingly; or cream for the face in which case I tend to be more liberal. There was no information on the box on how to use it, which I felt would be useful information to include in future.

Anti Oxidant rich White Tea Extract

According to the site, the Antea Age cream is specially formulated to help combat the effects of premature aging for all skin types. The cream contains anti oxidant rich White Tea extract that helps to neutralize the effect of free radicals & stress on your skin to minimize the look of lines & wrinkles. I ran into a slight snag at that point. I don’t have noticable lines and wrinkles on my face, so I wondered how I’d see if it was working. Some reviews on the site stated that they noticed firming up of their skin so I decided to be a mad scientist and try it anyway to see how I fared with it.

Essential Oil: Tea Tree Oil and its benefits

August 12, 2008 Paris B 15 Comments

tea tree oil

One of the essential oils I make sure I am never without is Tea Tree Oil. These days, this oil is very common but I remember a time when it was quite hard to get hold of this oil whether as an oil or in skincare products and I had to request friends in Australia to get them for me.

Tea Tree Oil (Melaleuca Oil) is extracted from the Melaleuca tree which is found predominantly in Australia. This explains why many skincare brands that contains Tea Tree Oil are Australian based. Tea tree oil is known to have some medicinal properties when applied on the skin and it is also supposed to be anti-bacterial and a disinfectant.

This is possibly why Tea Tree Oil is well known as an acne buster. Continue Reading
