If I have just 1 product I really like from Cellnique it will be this – the Cellnique Skin Action Sebum Gel. You might have heard of this product – I have in various online forums a few years ago and I’d always wondered about this wonder gel that keeps skin clear and pimple free.
In fact, there is a similar sort of product in the pharmacies under the brand B.Liv which I’m told is not from the same brand or maybe it was but isn’t now, I’m not sure. This one is by Cellnique Paramedical – available only in selected salons and online. However, I can now understand the raves for the Cellnique Skin Action Sebum Gel after trying it for myself.
Just 2 weeks using this gel and my nose and chin area is almost blackhead and spot free – even when right smack in the middle of crazy monthly hormones! You are told to use this on your congested areas so that’s what I did.
Do not expect to see results immediately. It took me slightly over a week before I noticed that my nose and chin areas looked clearer and smoother. This was with minimal blackheads and congestion to start with. If your skin is very congested it might take longer to see results. This clear gel is very light in texture and you only use quite little, and only on problem areas so it can last you a while.
You could get a sample and try it for yourself – details after the jump and are limited but open for worldwide participation! Hopalong now… 😉
When applied on the skin, there is a tingling minty feel on the skin. I follow up with the Intensive Hydrating Complex or any moisturizer and it feels fine. Not drying like many similar products. I reckon you can use this with any line of skincare – its seriously impressive 🙂
The instructions say that you can use it on oily combination skin and to reduce oil secretion to keep skin matt for longer. I however do not have very oily skin so I cannot attest to this. If you have and it works for you please do share!
Is this worth a re-purchase? I’d say yes since it keeps my skin clear as promised.
Caveat: My one caveat is that I’ve gotten my skin down to the level where I’m happy with how it looks – its hydrated and less oily and just clearer overall so perhaps thats why this product seems good for me for maintenance. If you have very congested or oily skin, I cannot quite say how it will work for you or it might work well for you, but might take longer to show results.
A 30ml bottle of Cellnique Skin Action Sebum Gel retails for RM159 – pricey but worth it for clearing up congested skin and it can last you a while. Now I’ve gotten my skin clear, I use it sparingly – about every alternate day instead of everyday – works for me and helps stretch the product for longer! 🙂
You can purchase the Cellnique Skin Action Sebum Gel online (free shipping worldwide) or at Cellnique counters/distributors nationwide.
Pros: Keeps skin clear and smooth, Melts away blackheads and whiteheads and decongests my skin, Not drying
Cons: A little pricey initially, Not easily available if you don’t count online purchases

Hey, I was a fan of this when it came out a couple of years ago. It TRULY works! Then, after I’d used it for about 2 years, they stopped production for awhile (or it ran out of stock), and I suffered horrible breakouts when I couldn’t get my stock. The withdrawals caused me to check online, and it appears that there are rumours circulating about the ingredients in this product? I am not so sure myself, because like they say, you shouldn’t believe everything you read on the internet. But, just wondering if your super beauty-sleuth skills managed to verify anything? Because if someone were to give me peace of mind, I’d definitely get back on track with this product!
ParisB says
Hi Amy
Wow I wasn’t aware of the rumors of its efficacy. I only use this on my nose and chin area, and after it cleared up after the initial 1 week, I’ve only used it very sparingly now, sometimes alternate days, sometimes once a week. I haven’t experienced anything bad happening to my skin. Were you using it all over your face? I’ll let you know if I come across anything.

nice review… i heard alot about this too and I thought of getting this last time but a little hesistate coz of the price…
btw, i heard from some reviews that it does help in clearing spots, blackheads and whiteheads… but does not help in minimizing the pores…
What do u think? does it help in minimizing ur pores too or ur pores remain obvious after all the blackheads were gone?
pls share =)
ParisB says
Hi ShaynaJo
I did not experience any minimizing of pore size after using this product – I don’t think its targeted at that problem 🙂

Hmm, I’ve read that Cellnique’s normal line (the one that was sold in Guardian/Watsons) was rebranded to B.Liv, so they should be under the same company?
Not sure whether they’ve split off atm though. :/
I’m currently using the B.Liv Off With Those Heads (should be the same thing) off and on for a couple of weeks now, and don’t see any difference if any. Might be because I’ve been using it more off than on. 😛
ParisB says
Hi Electronicfly
That’s what I thought too – that B.liv is the baby sister to Cellnique. Perhaps they have parted ways now? I’m not sure.
Pearl says
Yep PB, it is as true as it aclaimed. As I am a Cellnique user, this product has been a staple in my skin care regime ever since I know it. It is a water gel basis, does not feel oily at all. I ve an oily skin and it does help to reduce oil secretion. Blackhead will become minimal, and like u’ve said, less congested.
I use it morning and night, 2 pumps each time would do, sparingly dab on my nose and cheeks. It could last about 5 months per bottle.
As wat shaynaJo asks, no, it does not work alone for minimizing pores, specially those who have obvious pores. But it should be worked w less obvious pores, because the effect of it is to sooth your skin, as you can see the active ingredients includes Eucalyptus, Tea Tree Oil, Witch Hazel & Aloe Vera that are known for its benefits .
ParisB says
Hi Pearl
Glad to know it works well for you! So far I only use it on my nose and chin 🙂
Kahani says
I started with Cellnique, and was blown away. Then I switched to B’Liv because it’s easier to get and I swear it isn’t as good anymore. Must get another sample and retest and compare the two.
ParisB says
Hi Kahani
Oho! Do a comparison! 😀

Oh yes, this is good. I got it for my hubby, who has oily skin. I bought it when I was back in M’sia last time. But after finishing that bottle, I can’t seem to find it here in Bangkok. Maybe I’m not sure which salon is carrying the product. Thanks for the link of online store!
ParisB says
Hiya Shoppingmum
You’re welcome! Hope you have a good experience shopping online 🙂

Thanks so much for the freebies. Will try it out and get back to you. 😀

Hi IcedNyior

i tried the B.Liv black head remover gel (forgot the real name), the effect is very good! after using for few days I can see my blackhead disappear.. but they come back again when I finish up the sample I got…>.< plan to get it soon but might want to try this out first~
I think this one is good too.. Anyway, already sent in my email, see if I'm lucky enough to get the sample or not~ Lol
ParisB says
Hi Jean
I don’t think they kill or prevent blackheads from forming, just reduce whatever you already have.
yuki says
ooo… this is great news~~ Rushed to send my email… haha… I have a bad case of blackheads on my nose… Everytime I look in the mirror, I have this super strong urge to pinch those pesky fellas out… but then it’s not good… haha…
ParisB says
Hi yuki
I know what you mean – i have to physically stop myself from pinching them out too!
Cyndi says
There was a beautician giving me a sample of this to try out, and sad to say it didn’t work on me although my skin was fairly okay back then. Anyway, I have read somewhere that Bliv is actually the milder version of Cellnique, formulated for people with less chronic congestion problems.
ParisB says
Hi Cyndi
Ooh sorry to hear it didn’t work for you 🙁 Like you I thought B.Liv was related to Cellnique so I’m a little confused. I guess since its available commercially its probably a little milder as you say 🙂
AnT says
Wow! Paris! I need to try this. I have this little blackhead on my chin, looking kinda stubborn yet alluring me to pinch it LOL Thanks for sharing 😉
Jenn Wan says
Hi Paris,
I was a loyal user of Cellnique when they first started selling in Watsons and Sasa. They are truly very effective! However, when they were removed from the shelves and the people at Sasa told me it was rebranded to Bliv, I bought Bliv instead. And really, Bliv isn’t as effective. Since they are selling online now, I think I’ll get them online. One bottle lasts quite a bit, so, to those who are put off, just get one and you’ll know why it’s worth the price!
Jan says
I swear by this product! used it for almost 3 years now, its a staple for sure 😀

im using the b.liv one and yes it’s the same product, just rebranded. can confirm this as i reviewed the product directly from source.
i love love love it. i used to have bad blackhead prob on my nose but they’ve cleared up so much. i can still see some black dots, but nose is definitely smoother, not bumpy at all anymore. i highly recommend it too 🙂

talking bout clearing blackheads…. I was wondering which is the best way to clear acnes scar, slight acne and open plus clogged pore skin? I tot of a few but which do you think might be the best? The first option I tot of was DIY method, if so which product would you reckon? there is so much option out there till I’m lost and confuse. 2nd option I tot of was going to facial saloons, if this is the best option then which would you think its the best place to go? Thirdly, I tot of going to the doctor, do you know any skin specialist which is more established? thanks you 🙂

It took me like 2 years to finally try this out. I bought it after they have changed the brand name to B liv. I actually went to a warehouse sale of Cellnique and bought a few more Pro Sebum Gel. According to the Cellnique ppl they are actually the same. I don’t feel any difference actually. I finished my first B liv bottle quite fast coz I share it with my bf. He has very very oily skin and acne all over. After using it for 2 weeks his blackheads just disappear. For me it took me 3 weeks to see results. I guess my blackhead’s really stubborn 😛
I am currently trying their Cleanser, 2 types actually. 1 is the Quench me and 1 more is the one with Green Tea I forgotten the name. I truly adore their Drench me which is a moisturiser and it’s so cooling after applying it. It really calms the skin very nicely and it’s watery. Another one that I really love is their sunblock!!! It is actually like a BB cream. It’s a sunblock and moisturiser and it’s tinted all in one. It doesn’t feel greasy at all! Just like the Drench me moisturiser after applying it it’s cooling. It has a really nice feel to it. I love all of them 😀
To those who currently use this brand, they have warehouse sales ocassionaly. Do work out. I bought the pro sebum gel at 50%. 😀

Ooops typo I meant Do watch out.

This product is really good. It not only reduces my blackhead but it actually reduces my whiteheads as well. =)
I know how it is a little pricey but I guess if you really want good results, have to just splurge a little more right?
