New: Kiehl’s Acai Berry Organic Skincare range

September 4, 2009 Paris B 8 Comments

kiehls acai berry skincare

I came across this new skincare range from Kiehl’s on WWD and I’m intrigued. Kiehl’s has come up with a new Acai Berry skincare range that is certified Organic.

What really caught my eye is the use of the Acai Berry.

What is the Acai Berry?

You might have seen a lot of spam online about the acai berry and its antioxidant benefits. Spam aside, the Acai Berry is a fruit from the Acai palm tree found in the Amazon rain forests. Its supposedly very high in antioxidants, amino acids and essential fatty acids and is popular in Brazil – I must ask my brother in law who’s just got back from there – should have asked him to bring me one!

The spam starts when you look for the Acai Berry Diet because there are products or websites dedicated to telling you about or selling you products purportedly containing Acai Berry extracts to help you lose weight or touting it as a miraculous cure-all for anything from fever and hair loss to diabetes.

Bobbi Brown Ivy League collection and Cleansing Oil – some thoughts

August 24, 2009 Paris B 19 Comments

Bobbi Brown Ivy League

I was passing by a Bobbi Brown booth at MidValley last week when I noticed that the new Ivy League collection was already out here. Surprised me – we don’t always get new collections so quickly. I also got a sample of the new Bobbi Brown cleansing oil which I share some thoughts on below.

I was very keen to try out the new Metallic Eyeshadow colour in Bash – a deep emerald green. All 3 new eyeshadows are in the green family – my sorta colour!

Unfortunately I was quite disappointed. The texture of Bash the eyeshadow was hard to the touch and it took 3 layers before I got the intensity of colour I expected. If you’re patient and layer and layer, you’ll get a gorgeous deep emerald green with golden shimmer.

But if you’re into instant gratification you’d be as disappointed as I was. Ditto the rest of the eye colours – layer 3-4 times and you’ll get the intensity of colour you’d expect from the colour in the pan. Otherwise, its quite sheer. Might work over a base if you’d like to hasten the effect or use a sponge applicator and PAT it on, not swipe it on. Each eyeshadow is RM70.

Keep it simple with Clinique 1-2-3

August 13, 2009 Paris B 50 Comments

Life’s simple – don’t complicate it!

Thats the mantra I live by… or try to live by. But seriously, life IS simple – its people who are complicated 😛 And in the spirit of keeping it simple, I’ve been using Clinique’s 3 step programme these couple of weeks. Does that make me sound like I’m in rehab?

Clinique 3 Step

Clinique’s 3 step programme has been around forever but this is the first time I’m trying it over a prolonged period! What it is is essentially cleanse, tone and moisturize – 3 essential skincare steps which we may or may not practice but which we should right from our first blush of youth 🙂

First off, let me say that before using the Clinique 3 step programme, you should get down to a counter and get the sales assistants to match you up to the right products. You might need a stronger or lighter toner or a lighter or heavier moisturizer, but could make do with a normal cleanser. In my case, I was #2 for cleanser and moisturizer but I was advised to get a #1 toner – its milder for my skin. So get thee down to a counter and don’t listen to your friend or even to me because our skin types are all different so what works for me or your friend may not work for you!

The products I have are trial sizes and Clinique sells sets of these trial sizes for RM105 so you can try them out before you buy the full sizes – I like that! At least I know if something goes wrong, I did not blow a wad of cash. Have you tried the Clinique 3 Step? Here’s my thoughts on it.

Step 1 Cleanse – Clinique Facial Soap #2 Mild – Normal to Dry skin

I was diagnosed with dry combination skin. Yes yes… the aging process has started. But that’s no reason to skip cleansing. The Clinique cleanser #2 is a gel cleanser which cleans my skin well without causing it to feel dry. As it is formulated for combination to dry skin, it would have been disastrous had it pulled my skin taut and tight! I use it twice a day – in the morning and evening after makeup remover. Its Ok but did not remove my makeup very well (without a makeup remover beforehand).

Review: Garnier Aqua Defense Moisturizing Cleansing Foam – Cheap and good!

August 12, 2009 Paris B 23 Comments

A wise man (or woman) once said “Save on what you wash off your skin and splurge on what you leave on“. I have abided by that philosophy ever since and thus far I’ve found it working well for me… and my wallet!

Garnier Aqua Defense cleansing foam

The Garnier Aqua Defense Moisturizing Cleansing Foam is one item I am very happy to save on. Retailing at just RM10.90 for 100ml, I’m happy to report that it works well for me.

The foam comes in a tube and although it says “cleansing foam” I found that it does not lather up quite as much as I expected. The texture is creamy and it lathers up some but not into fat white soap suds.

The scent is similar to that of the Aqua Defense gel essence – light green apples.

I find that when I use it in the shower, my skin does not feel tight. In fact, it feels creamy and slightly moisturizing. This makes me venture the proposal that the Garnier Aqua Defense cleansing foam is more suitable for those with normal to dry skin. If you have oily skin you may not like this because it feels like a light layer on top of your skin after cleansing.
