The use of Vanilla in Chanel Sublimage l’Extrait de Creme goes to show that vanilla is not boring at all

September 10, 2018 Paris B 9 Comments

Vanilla conjures up for me, the vision of food. Desserts in particular. Creme brulee comes instantly to mind as does ice-cream, for that’s the only flavour I’d pick, given a choice. Yet, despite its gourmand luxury, Vanilla is also equated as being bland, boring and dull. Yet, is it? Chanel doesn’t think so, for the luxurious, top of the range Chanel Sublimage l’Extrait de Creme is chock-full of vanilla, in all forms.

Is it a coincidence that most top of the range products come housed in black, heavy, luxe packaging? We saw this in Shiseido Future LX and also in many other brands. In the Chanel Sublimage line, it has been that way for a while.

Unlike the more accessible Hydra beauty or le Blanc ranges of skincare, Chanel Sublimage is spoken of in slightly more hushed, revered tones. I spoke to a beauty editor once, whose face took on the look of rapture, when talking about Chanel Sublimage. “It is sooo good for my skin!” she whispered to me, like a secret to be shared just between ourselves.

And one day, the doors were opened to introduce me to the hallowed secrets of the Chanel Sublimage l’Extrait de Creme, the jewel in the crown of Chanel Sublimage line.

This Clinique Dramatically Different Hydrating Jelly is clearly quite different!

September 7, 2018 Paris B 11 Comments

When I stumbled across the new Clinique Dramatically Different Hydrating Jelly online, I did something unprecedented for me. I contacted the local Clinique people and pretty much brazenly asked if I could have a go. There was one reason why I found it so eye-catching.

Its aesthetics.

You must admit that you too would have done a double-take upon seeing this clear bottle. Most of us would be familiar with Clinique’s Dramatically Different Moisturising Lotion, affectionately known as DDML. The bottle with the yellow lotion moisturiser would have accompanied many a teen on their skincare journey. That said, I didn’t use it LOL! I never tried it till much much later.

And if I’m to be honest, I hated DDML. It broke me out when I thought I could not break out anymore. I tried different textures, and it was the same. Meh. Naturally therefore, when Clinique generously handed me a bottle of Dramatically Different Hydrating Jelly to try for myself, it was with a little trepidation on their part. I don’t fault them for I am also known to be caustic when things don’t work out 😛

Influencers and social responsibility – Influencers are getting a lot of backlash… and some of them deserve it!

September 5, 2018 Paris B 26 Comments

We live in interesting times. Times when anyone with a social media account and a decent collection of numbers can proclaim themselves a “social media influencer”. It’s become such a derided word, that the mere mention of the word “influencer” is accompanied by an eye-rolling exercise.

influencers and social responsibility

Yet, such “influencers” are now the backbone of digital advertising. They are feted by brands, and paid to endorse products and services. The idea is because people with a following have perceived “influence”, in that they can influence people to buy a product or use a service.

That said, there’s been a bit of a backlash against influencers in recent times whether by critical fans or disgruntled fellow social media participants. But this is not a rant about how fake the industry is because it is.

What prompted this post is when I stumbled upon a post on Instagram a few days ago. And this specific post made me see red.

For the record, I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with the YSL Touche Éclat All-in-one Glow Foundation

September 3, 2018 Paris B 8 Comments

I am an unreformed foundation junkie, always on the lookout for something new and interesting in the foundation world. And in recent times, I’ve been quite spoilt for choice! The newest one to grab my attention is the YSL Touche Éclat All-in-one Glow Foundation.

The YSL Touche Éclat All-in-one Glow Foundation is the newest YSL foundation to hit the stores, and one I’d had my eye on for a little while, ever since I stumbled on it online. I’d been messing around recently with fuller coverage foundations from NARS and Bobbi Brown, and I felt it was time to dial it back a little.

The YSL Touche Éclat All-in-one Glow Foundation promises a light-medium natural coverage, with a glowy finish and all day hydration. It sounded right up my alley! 😀
