Ohai everyone!
We haven’t had an Open Cafe session for a while now have we? This year has flown by in such a blur of news and releases and new products that you know, we need once a while, to stop and pause, and reconnect. So, here we are at the first MWS Open Cafe session for the year, where we can all hang out and chat in (almost) real time, about anything at all! If you want a question answered quickly, this is probably the quickest way you get an answer off me haha! 😀
New to the MWS Open Cafe? You’re in for a treat! 🙂
Basically, this is your chance to stop by and have an ol’ chit chat aka gossip session. Have a question? Go right ahead and ask. Beauty or not it doesn’t matter. I’ll answer it all, within reason in almost real time (I’m feeling a bit at a loose end today).
Maybe you just want to share a piece of happy news, or want to ask some quick advice from the knowledgeable community. For example, I never know what to buy guys for gifts, do you? Do they need yet another tie or socks? LOL
Or perhaps you have a request for a post or review you’d like me to do at some point in the future? I take requests and I usually get round to them… eventually. Are you travelling over the holiday period? Or have you already done your travelling for the year and if so, where was the most fun place you visited this year?
What’s that drink above? I have no idea to be honest! I had it as part of a set lunch at the Majestic Hotel KL a couple of weeks ago. It was served between courses as a palate cleanser and was very refreshing! I believe it had freshly squeezed lime and lemon mixed with some fizz and some blue liquor (non alcoholic) and then poured over crushed ice. Such a thirst quencher!
I’ll be replying comments in almost real time all day today so for the next 24 hours or less, the floor’s all yours. Previous MWS Open Cafe sessions in the past few years have always been fun. I’ve missed holding it and “talking” to you guys, so let’s do this. If you want to be notified of an email reply, don’t forget to check the box under the comment box 🙂
See ya in the comments, folks! The MWS Cafe is open 😀
Paris B
CAFE IS CLOSED! Thank you everyone for coming in and sharing your stories and your day with me. I thoroughly enjoyed chatting with everyone and I hope you did too. There is a lot of insightful info in here! I hope to open up a similar session again in the future 🙂

Shopping for guys! I recently chipped in to get a good pair of noise cancelling earphones for someone who commutes a lot on public transport. Another time, I chipped in to get a lego-like set of teensy bricks on Halo. It was a great hit. Remote control toys are great too. Or nerf guns (to be honest, I want all of those things above). They’re rather pricey so get a few to chip in will work well.
As for christmas gifts for the guys I work very closely with, I was going to get a bottle of wine each until alcohol and liquor policies got changed. Ditched the idea and got a whole bunch of crabtree cookies and jams and mixed them all up, split them up – a small bit for everyone and a card. Can’t go wrong with those.
Going to stop blabbing.
Paris B says
Good ideas Geek! Gadgets are always an idea but you’re right – it’s either too expensive shopping for guys or they end up with cookies LOL! 😀 Oh and good idea about the Crabtree gift sets. I’m going to have to do some belated Christmas shopping today and edibles look to be the safest bet! I’m just wondering what other options I have besides C&E? I mean I love their cookies but there’s so much of it going around!
LeGeeque says
Besides those, I’ve also given magazine subscriptions before as gifts (architectural magazines) or PC magazines or gamer magazines. Or even services subscriptions e.g. flickr for the photography nerd.
Paris B says
Aww man that assumes they read them! I know someone with a watch collecting hobby and I said, ok sorry. You’re on your own – you’re getting Crabtree biscuits LOL!
Irene says
Oh oh, get the guys some treat packages / vouchers to go to Truefitt and Hill! You can buy voucher for, say, RM 250, and the guy can go there themselves and choose what they like to do! Barber-shop for gentlemen 🙂
Paris B says
You know what? I’d never heard of Truefitt and Hill! Now I’m curious haha! I’ll have to go check it out 😀 High class barber shop eh? 😀
Irene says
Ohhhh it will make ANY guy feel pampered. Especially if the guy is a hairy gentleman like my husband. Lots to trim/shave/waved/cut. Hahahahaha!! Their shop is in BSC! Just the location itself (“going to BSC for some maintenance work”) will make the your manly man feel all self-important and indulgent 🙂 Yes, (very) high class barber shop is the word. But not so high that it is repugnant!! I am also thinking of getting a pampering package from Hammam for the husband. Those Moroccan baths/massage thing. I reckon things like that suits him the most because he doesn’t do gadget/toys, and I will go broke buying him watches for every anniversary/birthday/Christmas/V-day, and already has a packed wardrobe of shirts and dress quite casually for work so no need for another tie/cufflinks.
Irene says
*waxed. WAXED!! Lemme share something else with you ladies here. they waxed his NOSE hair!! *graphic description ahead*
They use the cold wax (like some beauty salons, instead of hot, melted wax — it is like playdough consistency), put it into one nostril at a time, stick a popsicle stick into it, wait a few minutes, and yank the s*** out of your nose. Then they wake you up because you fainted from the pain…and repeat the other side.
UH HUH.
Paris B says
ROFLOL!! OMG you are totally cracking me up Irene! I want to pay for this just to see the look on my friend’s face when they try it. ROFLOL!!!!
rudi says
Hahaha
OMG “they wake you up because you fainted from the pain .. and repeat the other side”!!!
OMG OMG OMG ppl are looking at me funny cos i’m trying to laugh out loud hence snorting like some deranged donkey in heat
Paris B says
I totally know how you feel! She totally cracked me up! 😀
Paris B says
Hahaha you’re saying he gets his money’s worth then, Irene? 😀 Gosh that sounds like fun actually. I’ll go check it out – I love going to BSC! Oh and Hammam! I love that place – its so decadent and you know that scrub they give you? Man, did you ever THINK you’d have that much dirt to scrub off you? I sure never did! 😀 It’s so fun that your husband enjoys pampering services. I think more guys would, if they would just care to admit it 😉
liyeun says
First timer here! Hehehe…. anyway I have a set of Bobbi Brown brushes but everytime I use them for my eye shadow application, they or I just could not deliver…especially the crease part. I watch videos and they seem pretty easy but I just cant perform. Is there sth wrong with my kinesthetics? Lol….
Paris B says
First time for everything Liyeun, pull up a chair and grab a coffee and biscuit on your way in 😉 As for the brushes, I’m not sure what it is you’re looking for it to deliver? If what you mean is colour application in the crease bit, I’ve learned that whether that even works to start, depends a lot on the shape of our eyes. Secondly, it’ll have to do with the size of the brush and the density.
If you want a very defined crease and assuming you do have the shape to start, then a denser, more defined brush works better. If you have a small eye, then you need a small brush. I’ve never worked with Bobbi Brown brushes so I can’t speak for them, but that’s what I’ve found out from experience. Also, because of my eye shape, I don’t put colour in the crease anymore (it ate at me for years as I tried to learn how to) because I realised I could create my own way of applying light and dark colours to best bring out my eyes and that didn’t involve putting colours in the crease 😉 So, in a nutshell, it could be your brush, colours, eye shape or all three so don’t fret. Just practice 🙂
Jenn says
Hi Paris! 😀 That’s a really special looking drink! Sounds so refreshing too! 😀
Do you (or anyone) have any recommendations for a fuss free day moisturizer? 😀 Still looking for that perfect one! 😀
Paris B says
Hiya Jenn! How have you been? Hope to catch up some time soon. Been itching to head up North to fill up on food you know. Maybe let me grow my 4th stomach so I can fit it all in 😉 As for moisturisiser, I hope someone has more ideas, but here’s one I really like lately and I’m almost scraping the bottom of the tub – Origins Make A Difference Plus + (I reviewed it here) I swear it does help my skin a lot with the hydration and it’s pretty fuss free as it goes – unless you have other criteria you’re looking for? 😉
Jenn says
Hey hey! 😀 I’m swamped at work, but other than that I’m doing awesome! I may not always comment but I read your blog every single day, and it helps me get through the day at work! Hehehe! 😀 Yes we need to catch up soon! 😀 Let me know if you’re coming up north… I’ll make sure that your 4th stomach is filled to the brim! 😉
Ahhh i gotta check that one out then – fuss free is what I’m looking for (and also something that doesn’t break me out)! 😀 I love the fuss-free DDML+ on its own to bits, but it breaks me out something awful everytime i tried to layer it over my serums! >.<
Paris B says
I will! I want to know where all the locals go to eat you know. I’m tired of being a tourist and eating at the same tourist spots all the time 😀 Thanks for reading, and I totally get people not commenting all the time – there isn’t always that much to say anyway is there? Glad you did today though 😀
As for Origins, yes I do really like it a lot especially for day. But I will suggest that you see if you can get a sample to try first. I’ve been using it for the day for so long I’m actually quite worried when it runs out because I’m not sure what I should go for next! >.< I couldn't use DDML+ - breaks me out 🙁
Jenn says
Haha I’m quite a failed Penangite but hey I do know a few local spots! 😉 Bring you there next time ya! 😀 Which is your favourite among the tourist spots? Mine is the cendol at Penang Road… so so good! 😀
Yeah… sometimes the reason I don’t comment is because I HATE typing with my phone! #fatfingerproblems 😛 Seriously though, I’m loving your blog so please don’t ever stop blogging! Hehehe! 😀
Okay… hope the counter girl is nice and give me a sample to try! Hehe! 😀 Yeah that’s the problem with liking a product so much – we don’t know what else to get because we afraid that the replacement won’t measure up to the favourite! 😀 The DDML+ works amazingly on my skin, but it is jealous – I must ONLY use that (and nothing else – no, not even the Hada Labo Lotion!) to reap the awesomeness! Otherwise it will break me out like no tomorrow >.<
Have you eaten yet? 😉
Paris B says
Yes! Penang Road Chendol never ever fails me! You know, last I was there, I did a taste test with the famous stall and the one opposite. Boy. Now I know why one is full of people! Haha! My friend tells me that the Chendol stall now has a coffee shop with asam laksa too. Haven’t had that in ages either! I’m a bit disappointed with the char kuey teow offerings though. It’s getting harder and harder to get good CKT – so if you know a local less popular stall maybe that will do it! 😀
Thanks for the vote of confidence! I do plan to stay for the long term but then I guess we just never know how things will pan out will we? We can after all just plan and see where it goes 🙂
I can’t believe DDML+ is so jealous! Haha! All you’re trying to do is make it work better. Maybe it’s lazy 😛 I’m heading out for lunch soon. Can’t decide what to have for lunch today and if you say you had CKT I’m going to cry LOL!
rudi says
There’s a branch of the same Cendol business now in Paradigm Mall.
Packed with people too.
Paris B says
I did learn of that recently, Rudi 😀 Haven’t been to Paradigm Mall (don’t even know where it is! LOL) but I’m also told it’s double the price here! I guess that’s the price to pay for not queueing and standing by the roadside in the hot sun, slurping up cold chendol. Then again, that experience can’t be beat 😀
Jenn says
Oh really!! I’m really a failed penangite la – how is it that you know of this (and I don’t!)! Lol!! 😀
Talking about CKT – I’ve never tried the Sisters CKT before, believe it or not. Next time you’re up in Penang, I’ll bring you to my usual stall. Not sure if it weighs up to the famous ones, but hey at least I don’t have to put up with rotten attitude 😛
I know right!! Look at my sad blog… I havent really updated for the past year or two! 😛 I do hope yours is here is to stay though because I’ll be really sad if it’s gone (guiltrip much? Kakaka! 😛 )!! 😀
Hahaha lol at the lazy comment. Maybe, but it’s definitely jealous! 😀 Don’t worry, i didn’t have CKT so you don’t have to cry, but I’m not sure how will you feel if I tell you that I had Assam Laksa for lunch! XD
Paris B says
LOL!! You know, they say tourists sometimes find the best spots coz we’re there for a reason – to eat and enjoy ourselves! 😀 I don’t ever remember eating at the famous Sisters CKT either to be honest. But I’d love to try your usual haunt because you’re right. Some of these places spend more energy giving attitude than frying their noodles 😛
Time to make 2014 your resolution to dust off the blog 😉 Always nice to stay in touch with things I find and the more you do it, the easier it gets. Although photos still kill me 😛 And you had asam laksa? Yes, I’m crying. Big fat tears coz I haven’t eaten that in at least a year! OMG! I love the one at the Kek Lok Si temple. Bestest ever!
Jenn says
You’re absolutely right!! Hehe!! Guess I must start playing tourist again in my little island and go find more yummy places to dine at! 😀 Haha it’s a deal – next time you come up here I’m bringing you there! 😀
It’s true… after a long blogging hiatus it took days for me to cough up an entry! >..< )!
Haha if it makes you feel better, it's quite watered down and tasteless so you're not missing out at all :/ The one near kek lok si is one of best!! 😀 The best assam laksa I've had was sold by an old uncle that I have been patronizing since I was a kid… sadly uncle has retired and I haven't found a stall that tastes quite the same T_T
Do you have any plans for Christmas? 😀
Paris B says
I keep meaning to play tourist here in KL, hoping to discover some hidden treasures but never got round to doing it. I think it’ll be easier in Penang though. But it’s an effort! I’ve been meaning to go and see those famous murals around town. They’re quite an attraction aren’t they? Have you checked them out?
I’ve no plans over Christmas. Don’t celebrate it per se so it’s just going to be a quiet day off, maybe with some friends for dinner if it happens. It’ll be a good time to do some catching up 😀 How about you? Anything planned?
Jyoan says
You could actually pull together a Top 5 of eating places in a certain state of Malaysia… =D
Paris B says
And I just might! But I think the whole food thing pisses some people off on this blog so while I won’t stop doing those posts cos I enjoy them if no one else does, I’ll be having a new creative outlet to whet that appetite as it were 😉
Jyoan says
Haha! Your question reminds me of my hubby (no offence). My answer to that question (when he asked) was the Olay Total Effects 7-in-1 moisturiser!
Myself has used the Olay Total Effects Advanced Daily Moisturiser, and I found no visible betterment from it. Felt good, just no improvement. (I am very greedy, and expect to see improvement, otherwise I will ditch the product.)
Nevertheless, I bought the Olay 7-in-1 With Touch of Foundation for myself, and the one without foundation for my hubby, because the ingredients list is really quite good.
We have opened the 7-in-1, and using it currently. So far so good.
haha, but yes. 7-in-1 is the answer to anybody who asks for something that covers everything (my hubby even specified he wanted SPF). Good job to Olay for the beautiful bottle that sums up the word “fuss-free”.
Jenn says
Thanks for the recommendation – I’ll check that one out too! 😀
I wish my husband would let me apply stuff to his face!! To him fuss-free would mean not bothering with skin care at all 😛
Paris B says
You know what? This Olay Total Effect 7-in-1 thing totally slipped my mind! I loved it back in the day but I haven’t used it in recent times so I don’t know if the formula has changed. But it really is fuss free!
shannen says
Really? It has been so long since the last Open Cafe? Where did the time go? Want to let you know again, I enjoyed the REN workshop very much. And I actually forgot to take photo with you! *bangs head to wall* well… at least there are some photos out there, when we are in the same frame 🙂 I’m still waiting for the stuff I bought from them.. yes, October until now. Stuck in custom I was told.. boo….
Paris B says
Hi Shannen! It was almost exactly a YEAR ago that I had an Open Cafe session! I just noticed LOL I’m so glad you enjoyed the REN workshop and I know, I was horrible about taking photos too. I should have gotten a group shot but evidently I don’t run events as frequently or as professionally as some other bloggers do hehe… 😉 Oh my is the stock not here yet?! That’s awful! If you want me to drop them a line to enquire, do let me know. That’s 2 months already! :O
shannen says
The next workshop you organise, you need to remember group photo.. hehe. Is ok, I do check with Fizah every now and then when I go to BV2.. just that it’s been so long, I’m not excited about the product anymore ;p
Any travel plan for you soon? How are you celebrating Xmas?
Paris B says
Haha ya, if you’re there, remind me! 😀 I’ll drop a line to the HQ anyway just to check with them – maybe we can get some conclusive answers about when if not how soon 😉 No travel plans to date unfortunately. I have been itching to head North to eat (yeah, I know, eat eat!) but the thought of travelling there during school holidays is a bit daunting. Might wait till the new term starts before I go. I blame my friends who have all gone up there in recent times and keep posting pictures of all the yummy food on IG! 😛 I don’t usually celebrate Xmas so it’s just a day off for me, but this year, I may have some friends over for a quick meal I’ve been promising them I’ll cook so that will be fun 😀
How’s your holiday plans shaping up? Anything exciting planned or any nice holidays planned for the coming year?
shannen says
Thanks in advance or checking with Kens.
Same here, Xmas is just a day off. My office is closed 2 weeks for year end. So I get some me-time (movie/spa/shopping) while my kid is at the daycare.. The only excitement a full time working mama can get.
Paris B says
Ahh 2 weeks of no work! I want that please! Haha… Speaking of movies, I’m going for the Hobbit tomorrow and I’m deliriously excited about it. I also realised it’s been… what? half a year since my last movie? Gosh, I feel ancient. Back in the day, I’d be going for movies every week and suddenly I can’t remember the last movie I saw – can you?
shannen says
and 5 days of forced leave.. well, at least get to rest. Rest is luxury to mama with no helpers.
I was lucky, I had a day off last week, I watched The Hunger Games. Love it!! I totally love the novel too. And this movie version is not “too off’ from the original story, which I found most novel adapted movie have. Yes, those days before baby, going to movie is almost a weekly or at least monthly thing. Now, we need to chose our movie wisely. My 3yo will start chatting people (in his own language) when he’s bored. The last movie I watched with him n hubby is Ironman.. hahaha. Lunch.. catch you later!
Paris B says
Hats off to mamas everywhere! I can never do half the things you all can, especially mamas with no helpers! I actually bought the Hunger Games Trilogy but never got round to reading them before the movies were released! And needless to say, I haven’t watched the movies either LOL Ok I’m really really behind on things aren’t I? >.< My tummy's rumbling too! Can't decide what to have for lunch - have a good one!
shannen says
Do find time to read them. Easy reading, interesting storyline. Before watching the movie, I don’t like the final ending. Now with the cast, I think I like the ending. Haha..
Paris B says
I’ll do that Shannen! I’ve been a bit at a loose end lately with my reading. Suddenly all the books I picked up from the Big Bad Wolf Sale aren’t appetizing. Oops! >.<
Ping says
Hi there, first time here! (Order to the service crew: Hot yuzu tea please! Thanks!)
Chanced upon your blog a few days ago and I’m now hooked! Love reading your blog.
I always do a reflection at the end of year and think what have I achieved (at both personal and professional levels) and what I want to do next year. I always start with something small (e.g., running a 10km charity event) and slowly build up the momentum and make it bigger.
So what’s your to-do list for 2014? 🙂
Paris B says
Hi Ping! (yuzu order coming right up! Incidentally, I’ve never tried that – I should right? It sounds absolutely delish!)
Glad you’re enjoying your visit to the blog. It’s always so nice to hear from readers and this open mic sort of platform is the best way 😀 Well, that and emails 😀 It sounds like you have things lined up nicely, Ping – kudos! I usually issue a “Resolutions” challenge at the beginning of the year but I don’t really plan very much ahead. I know, it’s a failing of mine haha! That said 2014 is shaping up to be quite a busy year for me for the first half so I hope to hold everything together, personally, professional and blogging wise, until it passes. Well, sanity wise too! haha!
Oh and did you really run a 10km run? Hats off to you! I can’t even run 100m 😉
Ping says
(sipping hot yuzu tea now…. Aaah..)
Wow, a busy 2014 for you! Plan some holiday in-between to rejuvenate, even a short one! Rest and sleep is really important, especially for women. Rest so that you can charge forward, not because you are tired.
Have you thought of organising a real Open Cafe session? Like REAL real? I believe it might go on for days (and turn into a conference. HA!)
Ya, running 10km for charity events is now a regular for me now. At least one every quarter. All for good cause like cancer research, underprivileged children…
Paris B says
I do have my annual trip to Bangkok lined up somewhere in the first quarter to break things up. I’m quite sure I’ll be ready for that once the time comes! 😀 Do you have a trip planned for next year? I’m not planning too far ahead but I hope to squeeze in another longer trip somewhere else. Just have to find where first 😀
As for an actual Open Cafe session, I actually broached the idea once but for some funny reason, people actually said they were too shy to turn up. I know, it was funny so I decided to let it pass. I do like meeting up with readers in small little groups or with just one to one, to have tea or something, and I also seek out some long time readers overseas whenever I visit their cities. Some are now fast friends! 😀 I love how the internet brings likeminded people together 😀
Again, hats off for doing a run. I’m just not a physical sort of person so the idea of running tires me out already haha! Now for you to stretch that 10km to a longer run maybe? 😀
Ping says
I do yearly cruise trip on Royal Carribean with family, usually to Penang (my uncle stays there), to basically chill and do nothing. Do you have a dream destination that you would love to visit? Maybe it’s time to plan for it!
I would love to travel up north to meet up (I’m from Singapore by the way). It will be fun!
Ya, my target for 2014 will be to complete a 15km run. 😀
Paris B says
You know I’ve heard so much about the Royal Caribbean cruises! I’ve never been on a cruise but I’d love to go on one to Alaska or Scandinavia so that’s something to save up for! 😀 As for dream destinations, I actually fulfilled mine this year! I have had a lifelong dream to visit Prague and I did it this year and loved it 😀 Got to find a new dream destination next 😀
Some day, what I should do is head South to Singapore and see if anyone wants to meet up 😀 We could have lunch at some cafe or something – I was hoping to plan something because I know so many readers are in Singapore but I never know if it’ll happen haha! Maybe 2014 might be the year it happens eh? 😀
Ping says
My family loves Royal Carribean so much that it has become a yearly trip. Their service is awesome… Oh wow, Prague!!! Great that you have fulfilled your dream! Ya, time find another one. My dream destination (Egypt) is having political unrest, so neh, maybe after a few more years.
Do a shout out when you come to Singapore and feel the love from us! 😉
Paris B says
I wanted to visit Egypt years ago and I should have gone when I had the chance. It was a place I’d have loved to gone to see. The mysticism of the pyramids enthralls me as does the idea of sailing down the Nile. I’m just not sure when I’ll be able to do it with all the unrest in the area. I was thinking of visiting Turkey too but again, the protests there put paid to that! Sigh… I’ll definitely plan something soon. I think it’s about time I met up with all the lovelies in Singapore 😀
Jyoan says
Perhaps do a Nile Cruise? =)
According to steward friend, Egypt is really not the kind of place every Singaporean want to go to. But I think Nile Cruise with a reputable agent should be fine.
From Singapore too, btw.
Jeanie says
Hi Paris,
I have been a silent reader all along but I really enjoyed your blog. I look forward everything to your posts and reviews on skincare/beauty/random chat. Went off to get the two clinque chubby lipsticks after reading your post. 🙂
Currently now on holiday in KL and browsing your blog for good skincare and makeup buys in KL. See ya!
Paris B says
Hello hello Jeanie! Thanks for leaving a comment to say hi – I love hearing from silent readers 😀 Are you liking the Clinique Chubby Sticks? I hope you got the Intense version – I do think they are superior! Oh and which colours did you get? Tempt me! 😀
Enjoy your holiday in KL (where are you visiting from?) and there are loads to buy here in KL at the year end especially with all the gift sets and value sets available now. Anything specific you’re looking to get? 😀
Jeanie says
Hi Paris,
I bought the two lipstick that you mentioned and mightiest maraschino 🙂 Loved it. I was browsing through isetan and bought Neal’s yard frankincense facial oil. I am trying out now and the SA gave me a sample of the hydrating cream to try out as well. I am debating whether to get the rose balm and frankincense intense cream as well…..hmmm
Haul quite a bit (guilty look) bought chanel le beige in N40 which Singapore don’t have plus 2 bottles of diptyque frangances too.
I shall stop? Trying to haha. Enjoy your day…..
Paris B says
Ooh you got the Frankincense oil! I love it so much! Been using it almost nightly for a month plus now 🙂 I haven’t yet tried the Intense cream but I’m planning to get the Rose Balm next! Sounds like you’ve had a fruitful shopping trip! Enjoy the rest of your stay here and thanks for dropping in. It was lovely hearing from you!
Yu Ming says
Hi Paris! Just want to ask… where do you get your regular facials done? I think I’m in need of a good, relaxing one after the hustle and bustle of the last few days entertaining relatives. I think I know what being a taxi driver is like now. There were 64 family members (more than half from overseas) here to celebrate grandma’s centennial birthday! Phew…
Paris B says
Wow it does sound like you had a very busy few days and Happy 100th to your granny! That’s just so amazing that everyone came together for such a joyous occasion 😀 As for facials, I go to Kanebo where I’ve been going for years. But I’ve recently discovered Sothys where I’m thinking of trying them out with a small package. Sothys quite often has introductory priced facials that are fairly affordable so that’s always a good way to try them out. If you can’t get a facial done, consider also a massage – either way I hope you get some pampering done after playing taxi driver. With the current traffic situation (Do people go a little mad at the year end or something?!) I salute you for all the driving you’ve been doing and yes, you definitely need some pampering! 😀
Yu Ming says
Dad and I both have a 7-seater car each so no escape for us… we were the people movers! Haha. Yes, the holiday season always seems extra busy on the road.
I’ll check out Sothy’s and Kanebo and yeah, a massage too! Just read your post on the Sothy’s facial. Sounds blissful but oh, the price!! Way, way off budget. Will see if they have an introductory offer 🙂
Paris B says
It’s not just you Yu Ming! I find the price a little hard to take myself. There are some other facials they have which are far more affordable and just as relaxing. Oh or try Energy Day Spa (if you’re in KL) they’re running some special packages right now that are quite worth the money! I’d almost forgotten about them – got to go back for a massage soon! Been too long 🙂
As for cars, thanks for letting me know never to get a big car so I never have to play driver! HAHA! 😀 But I bet you had fun anyway didn’t you? 😉
Yu Ming says
Definitely enjoyed meeting up with my cousins and taking them shopping and eating! The main reason I got such a big car was so it’d be easier for grandma to get in and out of a higher car than a lower one so no complaints 🙂
Thanks for the recommendations for facials and massage. I’m in PJ and hardly ever go into KL.
Paris B says
Aww that’s so considerate of you! Grandma’s lucky to have such a thoughtful grand daughter 😀 Hmm PJ will be tricky coz I”m not familiar with what’s out there but a nice spa I’ve been to, if you want a nice massage that is, is Khareyana Spa just near Assunta Hospital. Lovely ambiance and nice relaxing massages 😀
Ting says
oh wow!! Me first MWS open cafe, can you believe that? 😀
Paris, I’d like to know in which order do you do a thorough “spoil me silly” facial session at home?
Cleanse -> scrub -> clay mask -> cleanse (necessary?) -> serums & moisturiser -> sheet mask?????
I really do not know if scrub should be done before clay mask or vice versa. And the second cleansing after clay mask… oh dear. Help…. please? 😉
Paris B says
Ooh Ting! This can’t possibly be your first time in here! 😀 Come on in, pull up a chair – always nice to have a little chit chat and hopefully let’s have one in real life soon eh? 😀
Ok if I were to do an at home facial, here’s what I’d do
Cleanse -> exfoliate/scrub -> clay mask -> clean off (not cleanse) -> sheet mask or hydrating mask -> hydrating toner/mist -> serum -> moisturiser
You should exfoliate before the clay mask, so you get rid of the dead skin before you draw out impurities, and you’d want your skincare to go on last, after your sheet mask because that’s what’s staying on your skin at the end 😀 Hope this helps!
Ting says
Oh that really helps!! Thanks! I was doing things the wrong way (the sheet mask).
Now, if I were to insert steaming face (just read from Li Yeun’s post), nose pore strip and squeezing them blackheads… when should I do these?
Also, should we remove blackheads…? ;-|
Paris B says
Yeah, the sheet mask is a mask if you think about it, so it’s a treatment before you put on the rest of the goodies for the face 🙂 As for steaming, I personally will not steam at home because there’s always a danger of doing it wrong and burning yourself. For steaming and extractions I leave it to the pros. For myself, if I see a blackhead, I do remove it. Yeah I know we aren’t supposed to but it’s too tempting you know 😛 But if I can hold off, I let my facialists do it 🙂 I’ve never used a pore strip to be honest. It sounds painful and I’ve read, can actually cause your pore size to dilate further, because of all the stretching and pulling.
Ting says
I did it with a bowl of boiled water (not constantly on fire, mind you) and make a little “tent” with my towel. Feels quite refreshing afterwards.
You’ve never used a pore strip before? It’s fun. :p You see the blocked stuff came out in little vertical shapes (gross right?). Not effective but I did it anyway, and follow by extractions manually. On what you said about dilating pore size… geese I will stop doing that from now on. Scary!
Paris B says
OK confession – I’m usually just too lazy to do at home facials HAHA! That’s why I pay someone to pamper my face so I can sleep while at it 😛 And yes, I’ve never used a pore strip! I know, it’s mind boggling right? “Beauty Blogger has never used a pore strip!” I can just see the headlines 😛

If I say this is an imperial court session because you’re a (the?) doyenne, you’ll bishhh me, right? 😀 Are you sweeping the corridors with your regal stature and flowing train yet? Hehehe!
One of the highlights of this year is having gotten to know you better – thank you for always graciously offering to help me and for being so supportive. We have to meet next year! *HUG*
Paris B says
MAG! LOL! No no I’m not sweeping the corridors of power, I’m holding court 😉 You know, I just had this image of those Chinese period Court dramas where the evil Queen in all her fiercely perfect makeup and jewellery and flowing gowns glares out over the masses LOL! Yeah I’m definitely evil queen material, not pale innocent wronged princess 😀
It’s been wonderful getting to know you better this year too Mag and I will definitely plan a proper trip to Singapore next year. We do have to meet up. Our dimsum/buffet session is long outstanding 😀
makeupmag says
I love that image. Dramas on Chinese court intrigues and the like are so hot now, you know. 😉 And the makeup is impeccable – so much more exciting than that of the western world queens.
Hey, did you tweet about your giveaway? I tried to find it to RT it but couldn’t locate it. I haven’t decided on the mechanics of mine this year. Was thinking of ‘1 for you, 1 for me’ but how do I prevent a participant from lying? Maybe proof of identity, eh?
Paris B says
Mmm I love Chinese Court intrigues and yes, their makeup is stellar! In fact, notice how the baddies always have better makeup than the goodies? 😀 I did tweet the giveaway, but will be tweeting again. It’s interesting to observe how less excited people are when they are forced to give as opposed as to receive. I love it! 😀
I hope you find a fun mechanic that works for you Mag. Your Xmas giveaways are seriously the best out there – so incredibly generous! As for how to prevent people from lying (gosh! happens far more often than we realise!) some form of identity might be useful. It’ll force people to think twice.

I have always enjoyed reading your posts and have been a regular since quite long now 🙂

yours and caroline’s blog both are like a must read for me and in all honesty I thoroughly enjoy it! happy holidays 🙂
Paris B says
Hi Parita, thanks so much for reading and for contributing! It’s all your comments and feedback that keeps me going 😀 So happy for you that your hubby is there and for your birthday too! Happy early/belated birthday, which ever it is and I hope you spend a lot of happy moments and get lots of pretty presents 😀 I don’t ever hope to measure up to Caroline the guru, but to be mentioned in the same breath, now that’s enough for me 😀

Have anyone buy any big items or pricey designer bags or watches from Moredeal.com.my? Some pretty good deals going in there but skeptical me is afraid of transferring such huge amount of money. Just not too sure if the company is reliable or not in terms of authenticity of those designer bags or the items not delivered at all.
rudi says
@Sylvia
If it’s a really big ticket item, I would be extremely wary of buying from a discount website – too many stories of unhappy experiences around.
for pricey designer bags – well, wouldn’t you want to go admire, paw and sigh over it a few times before you decide to buy it? You can never get this type of tactile satisfaction from a website 🙂
Paris B says
Well said! Especially the pawing bit LOL Heaven knows, half the fun is in the pawing and the sighing over it, whether or not I get it in the end. It’s the anticipation that matters 😀
Paris B says
Hey Sylvia, I’d never heard of the site so I went to check and I saw it’s another deals website like Groupon and the like. I hope that’s the right one? If so, I’d personally pass on any big ticket items on there. I cannot vouch for the legitimacy or authenticity of the products they sell but I’ve seen too many non-authentic items on other sites, enough to be cautious. If you do really want designer items the safest place to get them is in the stores because the odds are, anything sold online has a chance of being non authentic and you don’t want to waste your hard earned money!

Dear PB,
I tried to use the “contact me” link here but failed as I am a noob.
I would like to email you on something i do not wish to be broadcast public.

Hi, from an old and silent reader 🙂 I have one request I have dark bluish dark circles under my eyes and my eyelids are a bit dark too can you please recommend a good skin care product and a concealer to help me hiding and getting rid of these I trust your opinions and recommendations in past I have bought a few products after reading your reviews so I would really appreciate if you help me out with this problem but please recommend a drugstore products as I am a student and I can’t afford buying high end stuff yet I would REALLY REALLY appreciate your help.Thanks xx
Paris B says
Hi Sataa 🙂 I remember seeing your name in the comments, so no you aren’t very silent compared to some others haha! As for eye circles, it’s a bit hard for me to advice because I’ve learned there are many causes for this. It could just be that the skin around your eyes are thinner than usual so the blue veins show up more. It could also be due to various reasons like lack of sleep, lack of oxygen that makes your eyes tired, or genetics. Personally, I don’t use eye care products (which is bad :P) but I’ve heard that Eyesilix by Indeed Labs isn’t too expensive and quite good. I’ve had quite good results from Caudalie VinExpert but it’s not exactly drugstore territory. Sorry about not being very helpful, but if I come across one that I like, I’ll be sure to share. I’ll keep an eye out for it – no pun intended! 🙂
Jyoan says
Hi Paris B! My first time too!
Every time your cafe opens, I am caught at work. But today I am finally free! =D
Would like to tackle the topic of travel.
Am back from an end-Autumn trip to Nagoya, Japan. Am flying again tomorrow. But that’s not the point of bringing up this topic. The real point is that I found my trip to Japan so incredibly satisfying (on the soul I guess), that when I came back, I stopped hoarding makeup.
It just happened all of a sudden, that I felt like I do not need anything else in this world, no matter how limited edition it is, no matter how luxurious the packaging is, because all that don’t matter anymore. What matters is that my heart feels so full and enriched, nothing material can match it.
Not sure if others have ever felt this way. It makes me reflect – is this whole makeup-love not going anywhere? It feels transient to me, at least right now.
Paris B says
Hi Jyoan! Glad you managed to make it this time around 😀 How have you been? Hope all’s been good with you.
As for your question, I think we all go through phases. Personally, I started out perhaps as a bit of a hoarder, grabbing all the newness that comes my way. But as time went on, I got jaded. Everything was (and still is) a lot of the same old, same old. So, some things do still interest me (I can’t help it since I am quite immersed in the whole beauty thing with the blog) but on a personal note, I have culled and cut back on a lot of things. My interests now lie not in makeup but in skincare and taking care of my skin. Also, I’m looking to household items and kitchen ware. Oh yes, salivating over knives and pots and pans like an aunty Haha! So, maybe the interest will wane, but ultimately, you don’t need all the newness to love beauty or makeup. You can always love what you already have 🙂
Now, on the subject of travel, is it worth going to Nagoya? It’s not a place you hear many people go to so it’s always nice to hear first hand 😀 Where’re you headed off to next? I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Japan a few years ago. I also realised that I appreciate the stillness and quiet of the countryside of cities I vist as opposed to the city centre itself. So, I loved visiting outside of Tokyo so much more than Tokyo itself that left little impression on me. Well, except for crowds 😀
Jyoan says
Yes, all’s well in life, which explains why the absence online. haha. You’re good, you can juggle both the blog and your life.
I think I am over the peak of the makeup-hoarding phase now, thank goodness. Am actually happy to get pass things, and declare I don’t want something. I totally get you when you posted you don’t want the Naked3. LOL! How frustrating when the community coerce you to try it right.
(I got Naked3 thought because I am warm tone. But I have no desire for Naked2, and refuse to own it. It looks the same as everything else, like what you said.)
I have always loved my skin, and think that is how society should bring up the teenage girls. I am desperately trying to sleep more so that I don’t need heavy concealer to look alive. You know, the point where your boss also exclaim you look dead without makeup… got to do something about the dark eye circles.
~~~
On Nagoya, I love it. First things first, I can relate firsthand, but it will be biased. =D Like you, I prefer quiet countryside, and Nagoya is exactly that – peace. The whole place smells peaceful, lots of lakes, no building is tall enough to block the horizon. Yes, you can see the horizon from any angle, even on the highway. That is how flat Nagoya is.
I didn’t get to go to the beach, and I don’t think there is much of a beach because Nagoya is still an industrial city. But Nagoya does borders the great Pacific Ocean!
Food is as good as anything else you’d find in Japan. I had amazing crab served in 3 ways, sashimi, boiled, and tempura. The eel there is good. And Nagoya soba. The Japanese Perfection.
From a tourist point of view, one would probably complete Nagoya in 2 days. From from a cultural point of view, it is a nice place for a little home stay. My friend, who has been to Japan 4-5 times, doesn’t think much of Nagoya. She prefers Nara.
But I think (personally) the nice thing about Nagoya is that it is in the center of Japan, literally. So you could go off to other places from there.
My host in Japan recommends Takayama, a village with a mountain where you can go up and chill. I researched Takayama after I came back, and it IS some kind of amazing, sweet, and beautiful place.
Paris B says
Ah I think I’m quite lucky that people around me understand my blog but I’ve had a while learning to juggle it and sometimes, it does get heavy too. But always, something has to give and if it does, then the blog will be it. Can’t survive eating makeup or jars of skincare can I? 😀 I did think Naked2 wouldn’t suit your colouring. You’ve such golden warm toned skin it would have looked far too muddy on you so I think Naked 3 is a good choice. But the whole hype for the palette totally killed any interest I might have had in it. Everyone is going on and on about it like it’s the next best thing when it really isn’t. There’s so much more out there. So ultimately, it’s just UD raking in the big bucks!
I too agree with you re: skincare. To an extent, I think a touch of makeup does help. I usually have a touch of concealer on even if I have nothing else on my skin just because it makes it look better. But looking dead isn’t nice so it’s something to work towards 🙂
Thanks for the info about Nagoya. I was doing a little research on it and as you have said, it’s basically just a basic industrial town, home of Toyota I believe LOL But it does sound like a nice peaceful place to visit. I’ll see. I haven’t quite decided where I should visit next but there have been lots of promotional flights to Nagoya in recent times so if I can’t decide, maybe I’ll just wing it and see what’s there! Worst case scenario, I can say I’ve been there and not to bother going LOL! 😀 I doubt that though 😉
Jyoan says
Yes, we visited Toyota factory. Haha!
Worst come to worst, you can take off from Nagoya to Kyoto and Osaka by train! It is that convenient. Kyoto, I heard, is somewhere worth second visits and more.
Do try the Takayama mountain before leaving though!
Paris B says
I’ll definitely bear this in mind! Thanks bunches for the tips! I have heard it’s easy to get to Kyoto and I missed visiting the last time round because I underestimated my timing. I even forgot to go to Tokyo Disneyland. Kicking myself ever since >.<
Jyoan says
No fret! The Japanese train leads right down, from Tokyo, to Nagoya, then Kyoto, and Osaka. It is really fast, cheap, and convenient. (Less than 2 hours if you take bullet train between Kyoto and Nagoya.) I intend to do just that the next time I go to Japan. =D
You could always take on Disneyland if you do Tokyo first or last. Tokyo to Kyoto. Hehe.
Jyoan says
Oh hindsight, make Tokyo first! Since you missed Disneyland, get that off first, then head down to enjoy beautiful and rustic Kyoto.
Paris B says
That’s a great idea. A friend of mine spent almost 3 weeks in Japan, travelling around. Man! I wish I had that sort of time 😀
Lily says
Hey PB! It’ll be so cool if I could really sit at a cafe, have a cuppa and just chill right now. And I don’t mind not having any company, but just some alone time. Heh 😛
Blogging aside, life’s been kicking my ass. LOL! Or rather, 35 is the turning point of my life. This or that, crossroads, challenges, life changing decisions *shudder* So here’s to a great new year and maybe a new life ahead!! And because we are strong women, whatever life throws at us, we’ll make it better. Cheers!!
Paris B says
Sounds like it’s time to escape for a little bit from daily life. When that happens, I book myself into a massage. For that 2 hours, phone is on silent, no one’s bugging me and I’m being pummeled to within an inch of my life, which is great 🙂 Sounds like there’s a lot on your plate at the moment but what’s life without a few challenges eh? Pretty mundane, if you ask me. Onwards then!
Angelina says
Uh, not sure if it’s ok to ask this or not.. are you in a relationship? Re engaged or seeing someone. Been dying to ask you this since eons ago.
Paris B says
haha, nope, nothing serious 🙂
Angelina says
Hehe. Where do you usually shop for skincare and makeup products? I mean departmental store etc
Paris B says
That’ll have to be Isetan if I’m doing department store brands, because I have their loyalty card and I want all the points LOL! Otherwise, it will depend on what the items are. Pharmacy brands, I go wherever the sales take me and if it’s a speciality brand then it has to be a specific store like Ken’s Apothecary. But generally, Isetan is where I’d be. I’ve actually never bought anything from Sephora! *gasp*
Angelina says
I don’t think I’ve bought anything from Sephora either. I like to browse the items there but shopping is done at respective brand counters for points and such. However, from time to time, Sephora might have special promotions or value sets that are not available at the brand counter itself.
How do you usually spend your free time, be it weekdays or weekends?
Paris B says
Gosh assuming I have free time right? Lol! Well OK my zone out time will be the time when I undergo cooking experiments or indulge in some TV. I do my outside shopping etc on weekdays after work so I keep my weekends free to stay home away from the crowds. I do more homey stuff cos I’m quite past going out unless I’m meeting friends for meals these days 🙂
As for Sephora I’ve just realised I haven’t been in there in a while. The few stores in town just aren’t convenient enough for me to get to. Haven’t even gone down to check out Nars and Tarte!
Angelina says
Don’t you feel tired after work? I’m not fond of shopping etc after work. Want to go home straight to shower and feel fresh. Lol. I’m not fond of weekend crowds – too many people and too many kids, especially the crying ones and the ones who couldn’t stay put at all. The horror. Eek!
I’ve been to NARS previously but came out of the shop shortly since the BA wasn’t interested to serve me at all. I love their products but too bad for crappy customer service.
Where’s the best place to travel in Malaysia? I love Penang for their food. Shopping malls, not so much since we have almost everything in KL. Speaking of travel, how do you pack light?
Paris B says
It’s the crowds on weekends that I want to avoid because everything takes so much longer. So I do my errands on weekdays. Also a good thing since its better than sitting in a jam sometimes 🙂 do you usually go out and about on weekend then? Oh and also weekend parking rates are higher so I avoid that too lol!
I like penang for its food. I think locally there isn’t much other reason to go anywhere other than for the food really lol! I like the islands for relaxation.
As for packing I generally just pack enough to get me by a trip. Experience has taught me I rarely need much especially if I’m going to be out most of the day. Also I don’t do outfit changes a lot like some more fashionable people, and I don’t go to fancy places so dressing up on holiday is usually optional. Helps me pack light!
Victoria says
Hi Paris! This month marks exactly one year from the time I discovered your blog. Hahaha. I can honestly say that my life has never been the same again since discovering the beauty blogging world. My conversations with family and friends are peppered with beauty tips that I discovered from my reading and I sometimes smile at how funny it might sounds from the ‘me’ of 1 year ago. Not sure if I would be able to sustain reading beauty blogs in the future but it will always hold a special place in my heart 🙂
I posted the picture I took with you at the REN workshop in October on my Facebook recently and labelled it as one of the highlights of my year. LOL. So glad to have finally met you in person and to know that you are exactly how I imagined you to be – humble and down-to-earth.
I do not really have a particular question to ask you but I saw Jenn asking you the question on day time moisturiser. My question is slightly different – which day time moisturiser would your recommend between Origins Make A Difference Plus + and the new Olay Aquaction hydrating gel moisturiser?
Thanks Paris and do keep up the great work you are doing on your blog. I cannot recommend it enough to family and friends for the amount of knowledge you have imparted on your readers. I believe this is my first MWS Open Cafe session and I really like it 🙂
Paris B says
Waah you’ve been keeping track! *hats off* I think the beauty blogging world is an amazing place once you put your filters in place. There’s so much to learn out there but I’ve learned to be more discerning. At the beginning, you’ll want everything! And then you realise you can’t because you’d be broke. But as you go along, you’ll also realise that some blogs, like some people, relate better to you than others, and as we grow, so do our interests and focus and we’ll find different people (or blogs) along the way to satisfy those interests 🙂
As for the moisturiser question, between the 2 you mention, I’ll pick Origins because I feel that over and above hydrating my skin, it does make it look and feel better. The Olay Acquaction gel thing is nice, but I feel it’s geared mostly towards just hydrating and towards oily skins or people who don’t like putting on moisturiser. It’s lovely for a burst of freshness to the skin but I didn’t get the sort of difference that I get when I use Origins. Sorry. Expensive choice again I know >.< I'm also very touched that you considered meeting me your highlight OMG Makes me feel like a superstar HAHA! Which reminds me, I still owe you a coffee/tea. We have to do this!! Thanks so much for all the support all this while. I love "meeting" regular readers in the comment box and when there's the opportunity, in person because sometimes, you can just tell you'd get along, y'know 😉
I forgot to ask, does your Lunasol Cheek Brush shed hairs after washing? I used to wash it every week with Johnson baby shampoo (the yellow one) because the SA did recommend that one. My brush sheds maybe 4-5 strands of hair over a period of few days. I was a bit worried and decided to wash it only once in 2 weeks. So far, no brush hair have shed this week.
Paris B says
Initially it did – a couple of hairs. But then it’s stopped since. I’ve been very bad and not been washing my brushes as diligently as I should >.< So this is a good reminder to get to it! To be honest, here's another tip. Get a second brush. Maybe not an expensive one like Lunasol, but rotate the brushes so they don't wear out so quickly and you don't have to wash them as often. Did you know that Hakuhodo actually doesn't recommend brushes be washed often? I know, when I read, it shocked me too!
Victoria says
Wow, that is an interesting piece of information about brushes not to be washed often. Maybe I will start practicing this method instead to allow my brushes to last longer. I actually did think of purchasing a second blush brush but I could not find a decent affordable natural hair brush. Could you recommend me one? I am currently using a natural hair brush (goat) from the brand Cerro Queen for my Meteorites and although it is good, could you recommend me an alternative, preferably one that is not too expensive.
Paris B says
Ahem! I’m afraid when it comes to brushes I’m too picky to actually settle so if I’m to be honest I haven’t come across many affordable natural hair brushes that make the cut. My back up brush is one from Shu Uemura I bought a few years ago. It was my primary brush then. Good brushes but also pricey. I’ve a suggestion. Set aside RM20 a month and in a year you can get a new lunasol one 😉 or wait and see if lunasol or rmk have any special sets. They sometimes have a set with a brush if you’re lucky and then you can snap one up. In the interim I’d go with the Real Techniques brush. Affordable and none too shabby 😉
Victoria says
LOL. I know that natural hair brushes are expensive. Good idea on setting aside money every month for a second brush. Just have to be discipline as even that RM20 will go for something else. Hahaha. For the Real Techniques brush, which one would you recommend? I know you find the blush brush too big for your face. So I guess you meant the powder brush.
Paris B says
You know what? Physically set aside the money! I do it sometimes when I want something badly enough. It gives me hope lol!
As for the RT brush the blush brush is a bit big but it works for softer colours. Plus it also means you get a brush that doubles up for powder. Win! 😉
Jyoan says
Hi Victoria,
don’t mind me butting in.
If you want affordable natural hair blush brushes, I strongly suggest checking out the Sephora brand.
I own many Sephora brand brushes, both in the black handle and those metallic colour handles. And I love all of them. They are worth the money. Don’t get the sets. The brushes in the Sephora sets are kind of just not as well made. Go for the individual ones on the big shelf.
Also, it sounds like you prefer small blush brushes, like Paris. You can try Sephora Professional Flat Blush Brush #42. It is tapered to a point and small compared to RT. (Personally, I am not favourable of tapered and flat blush brushes. But this is just a reference point. Sephora has more.)
If you want a natural brush that is in between RT and Sephora, try ordering online. I swear by Sonia Kashuk brushes. For Sonia Kashuk, the brushes in those limited edition sets actually are good! I have a handful of those sets, and not one has disappointed me.
If you are worried about shelling out too much at once, go for the half-length travel sets, with 4-5 brushes, including the blush brush. These are quite widely available on eBay for a good price (including shipping).
If you still prefer to go with Real Techniques, try the gold handle Contour brush. It is the small version of the blush brush. Exactly the same cut and shape.
Very personally, for RT blush brushes, I prefer the Stippling Brush for its versatility and smaller size. They one will do your foundation, creme bronzer, creme/liquid blushes, and standard powder blush. =) Keep in mind that you don’t need a brush that says blush brush, in order to apply blush.
Jyoan says
I checked eBay for you.
I have the Sonia Kashuk Tweedle Dee 4-pc set. LOVE, major LOVE that one. But do keep in mind that this is an old one (two years ago). So the brush technology is not advance. It is very basic.
For more advanced cuts Sonia Kashuk Double Duty Brush Set. And if you like pink and futuristic silver, get the SK Proudly Pink 5-pc Brush Set.
Try not to buy those with funky coloured handles. Those are made very specifically to boost sales during festive, and while still good, they are not as good as the professional looking, solid colour handle ones.
The line with the hourglass curve and packed in white back individual plastic boxes is really, really good. You could try that too if you really are only looking for a single brush. But I don’t own the blush brush from that line, I only have the flat top kabuki and the contour brush.
Paris B says
Those are some awesome suggestions Jyoan! Thanks for chipping in! You made me want to check out Sephora brushes myself 😀 I do have a couple of Sonia Kashuk brushes and they’re good but I wasn’t so sure about the regular ones in a set because I got the ones with a black body that were a it pricier relatively, but which I was told were better. I just checked and the Sigma F10 brush isn’t bad either although it’s a little more scratchy once you’re used to a lovely soft squirrel hair brush. Ultimately as you’ve said, it’s whatever works for us even if it isn’t called a blush brush 🙂
Victoria says
Thanks so much Jyoan for the wonderful suggestions. I read your blog regularly and I know your love for brushes. LOL. I have never really looked at Sephora brushes and I guess I will need to check them out now 🙂
Jyoan says
Oh another thing on my mind after reading some other readers –
Have you, or any readers, bought from Blue Nile before? Blue Nile diamonds online… …
I have contemplated the idea down to the point of clicking the “buy” button. But always stop short of actually transacting the money.
Paris B says
Interesting question, Jyoan. I’ve actually come across the site before. I think they’ve been around for a while, but jewellery, like clothes and shoes are not things I’d buy online. Especially not if it costs a lot of money. I much prefer going to a proper reputable store and getting it from them. Even if it costs more at least you’ll have peace of mine 🙂 But it’s just me of course. I know it’s quite a big online store serving the US market.
Jyoan says
Me too. I just can’t transact anything online if it is not a sum I can lose.
I think it is the same for many of us, because I really don’t know anyone in real life who has done a Blue Nile transaction and got their goods.
Paris B says
Good point! It’s bad enough wondering if we’re getting ripped off in a jewellery store without having to worry about it online too!
before i sign off, thank you PB for a lovely cafe break, the blue drink was great.
Thank you for dropping by Rudi and you’re right. It’s all the lovely contributions from everyone that makes this such a fun and informative site and session. Kudos everyone!
