Your Say: Do you have a quick solution for breaking in shoes? How patient are you with a pair of shoes that bite?

June 30, 2013 Paris B 56 Comments

shoes bite

I was wondering about this in the past few days, as I pattered about in my flats. I have a newfound love for a good pair of flats by the way. Finding a good one that I love has been pretty much trial and error but knowing that I have them is a great feeling because they go so well with anything! A little casual of course, but hey, if I can get away with it… 😉

So anyway, I have 2 pairs of flats that have a tendency to bite my feet, especially at the heel. I find flats do that a lot. I usually end up with a blister when the shoe rubs my heel raw, and I’ve lost count of the times when I’ve had to hobble around because my shoes are giving me blisters. Serves me right for attempting to walk a lot in new shoes, but sometimes I do that, as a means of breaking them in. No pain, no gain 😛

I figure, if I wear the shoes around a lot, they’d break in more quickly. Sometimes it works, often it doesn’t. Do you have a quick fix for breaking in new shoes, or for shoes that bite?

Clinique Even Better City Block Anti-Pollution: Blocking against UV Rays, Hazy Days and City Pollution

June 29, 2013 Paris B 22 Comments

clinique even better city block anti-pollution sunscreen

Sunscreen or sunblock. Whatever you want to call it.

Use it!

I have tried so many different brands of sunscreen in my time (and I do have my favourite that I’ve repurchased) but there is also one you don’t hear a lot of but which I also quite like. I recently found out that the Clinique Derma White City Block is now known as Even Better City Block Anti-Pollution SPF40 PA+++ Sunscreen. Its been a while since I’ve used this one. Last I did was back in 2011 (you can read my review of it here) and I was later gifted a tube which I used about halfway through before my wandering eye hit hehe…

Clinique calls this the City Block Anti-Pollution sunscreen because it doesn’t only protect our skin from the harmful (and terribly aging) UV rays, it also protects our skin against harmful city pollution. During the recent thick haze that shrouded our country and neighbouring Singapore, we were warned to wear face masks that could filter out hazardous particulates from the air when we breathe. These miniscule particulates measure up to 2.5PM and can travel through our respiratory tract and lodge in our lungs, causing us health problems. You can read a little more about this from the New York Department of Health site.

Well, according to Clinique, their Even Better City Block not only protects skin against general pollution, it will also block and prevent the PM2.5 particulates from potentially entering our skin through open pores and broken skin and which may potentially cause damage to our skin. Never a better reason to wear your sunblock ladies! Its still pretty hazy out there! I’ve already blogged about this so this serves as a refresher 🙂

Her World Beauty Awards 2013 : The Beauty Junkie Judge and a breakdown of the look in the Magazine

June 28, 2013 Paris B 55 Comments

her world july 2013

Coo-ee!! 😀

Hi Ladies and the lurking Gents … and readers who may have found me via the Her World Magazine July 2013 issue 😀

I haven’t said anything about this before, but I was invited by Her World magazine to be part of their judging panel for the Her World Beauty Awards 2013 early this year and I was so excited about it! 😀 I’m telling you about it now, because the July issue is out with the results of the Best in Beauty and they have a little “Get to know the Judges” section! Eeks! PB in print! *preen* 😀

I shared a picture of it on my various social media profiles a couple of days back when I picked up a copy of the mag, and I wanted to thank everyone for all your lovely lovely comments and ‘likes’, if I forgot or missed you out. I read every one and I thank you all for your kind words 😀 This year I was even a little more star struck than I was last year, placed amongst local celebrities and experts in their field, sharing the judging panel with local celebrity and TV host Elaine Daly, Editor-in-Chief of Her World magazine Seema Viswanathan, local makeup artist extraordinaire KF Bong who did our photoshoot makeup, and consultant aesthetic physician Dr. Karen Po. I’m truly truly humbled and thankful for the opportunity offered.

I know some of you were really taken by the look created for the photoshoot especially that amazing cat eyeliner, so I cleverly (heh heh) remembered to take some pictures post photoshoot, to share them with you, and also what products were used. Also, some little backstage peeks, and well, as we say here in Malaysia, this is a syiok sendiri (loosely translated into ‘narcissistic’) post. Please bear with me 😀

Paris Picks! My Top 5 Favourite Skincare Items that stand the test of time

June 27, 2013 Paris B 73 Comments

favourite skincare

Fact is, ladies and gents, I have used loads… and I mean LOADS of different skincare in my time. It’s part of the reason I started blogging it. I wanted to share how the different products out there have worked, or not, for me. Who knew that it would blow up the way it did! 🙂

But over the years, I’ve been whittling back down my skincare arsenal and I can safely, hand on heart tell you, that I have found some faves that I am willing and happy to repurchase over and over. In fact, I have. In fact also, these are skincare I have been using over the past 6 months – some even longer – they are staples in my skincare regimen and I have found them to be so good, I’m actually loathe to switch out any one of them.

Yes, I’ve only found 5 to date. What does that make me? Extremely loyal? Extremely fickle? Or just Extremely picky? 😛

Before I unveil them, see if you can hazard a guess as to what they are. For a couple of them, the packaging shape is a giveaway and I think one might surprise you 😉 Got your guesses ready? Here they are in my first (and a possibly sporadic feature) Paris Picks! :D.
