Your Say: Will you shop for luxury or designer goods from parallel importers? Or do you prefer to buy from official sources?

March 31, 2013 Paris B 45 Comments

parallel imports designer goods

If there is one thing I’ve noticed in recent times is a proliferation of designer or luxury goods on the streets of KL. It has only really taken off in the past 3 years or so and it is quite gratifying because this means, we are now on the map for most designers to enter the market and that’s excellent for us.

Yet, I personally don’t attribute this sudden fashion consciousness (or wealth, if you look at it that way) to a sudden awakening of fashion (and wealth) in Malaysians. I attribute it primarily to the options now available to most to source their luxury or designer goods, for a smaller pricetag than what is sold in store locally. Yes, I say the increase in the number of women toting Longchamp le Pliages, Monogram LVs and Coach is due to the parallel importers, blogshops, and online stores that have made it more affordable to own something designer. It isn’t a bad thing, necessarily. I think its a great feeling to pick up that first luxury or designer item but does it matter to you where that item comes from?

I have seen a number of shops proclaiming themselves to be specialist luxury bag stores, or stores that carry a small selection of brands as parallel importers, or even online stores that sell designer goods at a hefty discount off the retail price. I’m curious if anyone has bought anything from these stores, parallel importers or online stores; or if you have ever entertained the thought? “Parallel Importers” are supposed to be stores that bring in authentic goods without going through the local distributor or the owner.

Win! Nvey Eco Moisture Rich Fluid Foundation worth RM168

March 30, 2013 Paris B

nvey eco foundation

Peekaboo! Time for Giveaway #5 in the MWS 6th Anniversary Giveaway series. Whew! Its been quite an exciting few weeks eh? Maybe its time for the fun to end… maybe 😉

Today, we have a liquid foundation from an organic cosmetics brand, Nvey Eco so this would be perfect for those of you who prefer to use organic products. Its not easy finding good organic makeup and Nvey Eco is one of the few brands that carry conventional makeup products made from organic ingredients, not just mineral makeup.

This new organic cosmetics brand is brought into the country by TNS Skinlab and you can find it in their stores and online. I haven’t tried it so I can’t tell you what its like, but if you are feeling adventurous and are game to give it a shot, we have here today 1 bottle of the Nvey Eco Moisture Rich Fluid Foundation in 512 Beige.

I can’t pump it to swatch it for you since its new, but to my eye and based just on visual appraisal, 512 Beige is a fairly light shade that may suit someone with fair to light skintone. Perhaps someone who takes a foundation shade up from mine generally, but there are some pink tones in this one. So if you take 020 in Dior, you might be able to handle this (but no promises!).

This one is also open worldwide so find out how to enter below.

New! Crabtree & Evelyn Tarocco Orange, Eucalyptus & Sage collection gives you a zesty kickstart

March 29, 2013 Paris B 24 Comments

crabtree & evelyn tarocco orange eycalyptus sage collection

Have you ever eaten a blood orange? The first time I did, I did not know what it was. The orange pulp quite literally looks like a bloody pulpy mess. But it is SO. GOOD.

Well I just learnt recently that what I know as the “blood orange” is also known as “Tarocco Orange” and this forms the core of a brand new bath and body range from Crabtree & Evelyn. Launched just about a month ago, the Tarocco Orange, Eucalyptus & Sage collection (to give it its full name) gives the Crabtree & Evelyn brand a new zest for life. Quite literally.

This is only the second range with citrus notes from the brand, if I recall correctly. The first was Citron but I didn’t take to that one because it smelt rather like lemon scented dishwashing liquid on my hands. This Tarocco Orange one I can attest, does not smell like you just took a shower in orange cordial. Its not that sweet, yet it retains that zesty, citrus note that wakes you up in the morning and revitalizes your flagging spirits in the evening.

Have you taken a sniff at it yet? Its quite a large, comprehensive collection with a focus on Crabtree & Evelyn’s strengths, their bath and body collection.

Even if you aren’t into Tattoos, You’d still fawn over the Maybelline Color Tattoo 24hr Cream Eyeshadows now in Malaysia!

March 28, 2013 Paris B 84 Comments

maybelline color tattoo cream eyeshadow

Ah yes, the infamous Maybelline Color Tattoo cream eyeshadows are here in Malaysia! 😀

I had another post scheduled to be written today but real life has been kicking my butt all week and there was no way I could have written anything coherent. So you will have to do with this rather meatless post but one that has reminded me of my early days of blogging when I’d blog on the fly about stuff that happened within a day, not a month later – it is kinda fun! 🙂

Those of you who follow me on my social media channels will have remembered me announcing about a week or two back, that we were getting these in towards the end of the month of March 2013. I realised recently that many of you reading this don’t follow most of the social media channels offered so you might have missed the announcement. I share most news on sales, promotions, and previews there, not on the blog, so do take a peep at the Twitter or Facebook page now and again so you don’t miss out 🙂

Anyway, I’ve been haunting the pharmacies since, hoping to catch a glimpse of them with pretty much no luck. I’ve gone into at least 3 Guardian pharmacies and 2 Watson’s with no luck. In some pharmacies, I see the slots and even testers, but no product. Some pharmacies don’t even have the space set up. Well, yesterday I happened to be at Pavilion KL and I remembered that Sukie mentioned on Twitter that she spotted these at Caring pharmacy so I went to take a look and the moment I saw these, I swear, there was a universal trumpet sound of “Ta-da!” 😀

By way of information, we will be getting in 8 colours – 5 bold and colourful shades and 3 neutral safe shades. I’ll share with you some quick swatches and pictures below and you can try to hazard a guess which 3 I picked before I show you the pictures 😉

Famous last words 😅 Can’t believe how tiny he was last CNY. I could make him do whatever I wanted. Now, he’s got a mind of his own and it’s “no treats, no work!” 🤪
It’s an unusual Chinese New Year this year. It’s the first time since I left home that I did not make an early morning drive home for CNY for the reunion dinner (I always do so to beat traffic). It’s the first time I’m spending CNY in KL. It’s the first time my hair is looking such a mess for CNY 😂
Regardless, we do this not for ourselves but for others so we can have more joyful CNY celebrations to come.
Wishing all of you a Happy, healthy Chinese New Year filled with Ox-picious tidings 🧧 Gong Xi Fa Cai and enjoy the festive break! ❤️

I never appreciated hair mists but the Chanel No. 5 Hair Mist is a nice, light way to enjoy the perfume. Who says you can only spray on your hair? 😬
