I was chatting with Beetrice one day on the subject of beauty box subscriptions. You know the sort where you pay a fixed sum every month and get surprised by what you receive? It could be a good surprise or a bad one I suppose.
In most of these boxes, you get 1 full size item if you are lucky (a bottle of nail polish is considered full size!) but if not, you get a bunch of deluxe sized samples from various brands and areas of beauty โ makeup, skincare, tools etc. Iโve read of some boxes including coasters and vouchers and even hair ties. I got one containing coffee beans. Erm yeah. Surprise!! ๐ Never said it was going to be a good surprise ๐
So there we were chatting randomly about what we could put into a beauty box and a germ of an idea formed. What if I were to have a beauty box subscription? What will I put into my box?
Iโll call this the โMy Women Stuff Beauty Boxโ** and this box will house 5 items I would put in there, that I think people will like to try. In the vein of a beauty box subscription, there is 1 full size item and 4 sample sizes. This is a recurring subscription and you will be automatically billed or you can pay up front for a year! Hurray!
Iโve also got a few blogging friends to create their boxes and tell us what goes in their boxes so hop along for a peep into mine and theirs.
Hereโs what you can expect to get in the โMy Women Stuff Beauty Boxโ** if you subscribe. Essentially, its stuff I like and that I think you will like too. This is the introductory box ๐
- Dior Addict Extreme lipstick (click for review) โ full size (I chose Plaza but you get your choice of colour, yay!) I love Dior Addict lipsticks so naturally I wanted you to have one of your very own!
- Melvita floral water spray (click for review) โ sample size (your choice of floral water, yay!) I have been using these floral waters a lot recently. I use them in lieu of a lotion or toner and I love it! It dampens my skin and helps skincare absorb better. My favorite is the Rose one. Also excellent to cool down on a hot day, mist skin in dry air and set makeup.
- Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair serum (click for review) โ sample size. This helped my skin recently in recovering from breakouts and general dullness. I mix it with the Kiehlโs Midnight Recovery serum but youโll have to wait and see if you get that in the next box!
- Clinique Moisture Surge (click for review)- sample size. Been using this a lot too. In the day as a light moisturizer and at night, sometimes as a sleeping mask. Reminded how much I like it.
- Kanebo Blanchir Make Off Conditioner (click for review)- sample size. For taking off makeup at the end of a long work day, I love this one. The first cleansing oil I ever used and one I intend to return to.
Iโd probably also toss in a couple of packs of cotton pads because every girl needs cotton pads. All items come to you in a sturdy red box lined with luxurious white tissue and tied with a white bow.
How much will a box like this cost? Initial projections price this luxury beauty box at RM90/month. Considering the lipstick is already RM98 and you get shipping free**, Iโm on the losing end and you get a steal, yes? ๐ But hereโs the beauty of it โ you donโt know what youโre getting next month! A little bird tells me we can expect a French brand that starts with G โ Guerlain or Garnier? Surprise! ๐ Book early because only very limited boxes will be sold**
If this box isnโt to your taste, hereโs what my blogging friends have put into their boxes. All posts have been published simultaneously so I am just as curious as you are to find out what are in their boxes!

If you could make your own beauty box, what are 5 things youโd put in there? Are you a fan of these beauty box subscription thingys? I donโt think much of them to be perfectly honest and I know for a fact that Iโd never subscribe to one. Iโd rather save the money for 1 nice item every month or save it all up and get that one luxury item Iโm really keen on. I think it makes more sense overall. But thatโs just me. How about you? ๐
Paris B
** This is a hypothetical beauty box subscription, if it wasnโt already quite clear. I still donโt believe the consumer gets much out of a service like this, but the company can expect to make a lot of money distributing surprise boxes of product samples, preying on the element of surprise. Smart!
Fanny says
Hey Paris, just dropped you an email, would love to subscribe. How to goabout it?
jamie says
i dont think you can lolโฆ its more of a hypothetical scenario of IF Paris has one then sheโd have these things..
i would want to subscribe too if there were any ๐ but Paris would go so broke offering all these goodies haha
Fanny says
Smack! Read it too quickly and got attracted by those beautiful things PB put it in. Now I know I gotta get it myself โ LOL!
Paris B says
teeheeโฆ smart cookie! ๐ Yeah I would go broke for sure!
Paris B says
Teeheeโฆ I think youโve worked out that it was all a bit of a joke right? ๐
mswanniey says
just talk about this yesterdayโฆ coz i wonder does they do glossybox here at malaysiaโฆ. and now there an answerโฆ.
Paris B says
There is a brand from Singapore that delivers to Malaysia but it costs RM60/box a month and I think thatโs terrible pricing. With the gain in popularity, I think you can expect to see others start to mushroom locally. I personally am not a fan of it as I think it a waste of money, but then, I guess curiousity will get the better of most ๐
eniz says
hi there!!!hope u fine..
i wanna ask how long does someone have to pay?
lets say if the box finish already, then what the paid person get?
have a nice day =)
Paris B says
Hi Eniz, I hope you didnโt think that this was a real subscription ๐ The fine print is at the bottom marked ** ๐
Ana Nz. says
I want this!!!
Paris B says
LOL! It is quite a bit of a luxury box isnโt it? ๐
Lindsey says
I actually love subscriptions to anything lol Iโm subscribed to a few different beauty type ones (including Birchbox and Birchbox Men, QVC Beauty Box, and Beauty Army) and am actually considering getting a yarn subscription, too lol For me itโs not really about whether or not the products ad up to a lot of money, I just love samples and trying new things. Iโve definitely had boxes that I didnโt like that much (I swear my last Beauty Box was almost the exact same as one I got last year, and most of it was stuff I didnโt want), but I get enough things that are a pleasant surprise to make up for that.
Paris B says
Wow, you sure are subscribed to quite a few boxes! ๐ But if in the process you discover products you like, or actually use what comes in the boxes, I guess it will make it worth your while and your money ๐ I like the idea of a Yarn subscription though. That sounds like something more practical!
Mrs Top Monkey says
Dang. I was about to ring you and ask how I could bank in the money to your account for this.
You tease.
Paris B says
Iโm starting to regret not making it real, considering how everyone is wanting to throw money at me for this heheโฆ ๐
Hanny says
Ermโฆ am I the only one who does not like the idea of these subscription boxes? Am sorta afraid to imagine all the unused products that would pile up month after month. What a waste of moolah! >.<"
But I guess that's just me, because I'm paranoid over skincare. heh heh
Paris B says
Not the only one, mโdear. I dislike it too but mostly because I perceive it to be a waste of money and I just know that I wonโt use everything and as you have pointed out, imagine when they start piling up! Iโd prefer to save up and buy something nice ๐
Nikki says
hahahah PB! I have a feeling youโre going to make everyone WANT YOUR BOX with the gorgeous RED box and luxurious sample sizes of the brands we all want to try!!!! ๐ Ok, do you ship to the Philippines??? *laughs* Great list!!!
Paris B says
Yes! We ship worldwide! Please send me all your money to paypal at whatahoax[at]gmail.com ๐ ๐
Leesa says
have been tempted many times in the past to subscribe but have so far resisted the temptation toโฆ lolsโฆ
my 5 products:
1. vitamin b12 cream
2. avene facial mist spray
3. lโoreal uv sunscreen purple- antidullness
4. elizabeth arden 8 hour cream
5. shu uemura glow on blush
Paris B says
Something tells me, youโll give in once, just for curiousity sake? ๐ Thanks for sharing your 5 products. I happen to like 3, 4 and 5 too! I have been seein gthe Vitamin b12 cream around a bit but am not sure what it is or if I can find it here. It seems to be very popular!
Jean says
wow.. i love this idea! i have been seeing a few other beauty box subcription box but only you post out the price. hmmmโฆ let me consider about it. worried that I will not use some of them and end up piling up in the store room too!
Paris B says
LOL yeah, had to make it look as realistic as possible ๐ If I were to get this box, I will actually use everything but I have seen many boxes out there where I barely recognise any of the brands so I just know those will end up stuck in some dark corner of the room gathering dust ๐
Gin says
Gosh I WANT A BOX OF THIS PLEASE!
haha this is really waaaayyyyyy luxurious!!! Will definitely subscribe!
From the current trend of beauty box, they often mix week known brand w some unheard of brandsโฆ Not saying small brandsโ quality arenโt good but u knowโฆ.
Paris B says
Haha if I saw a box like this, I might just subscribe too! ๐ I think many subscription boxes operate on the basis of introducing new products or brands in sample sizes so people can try and then buy the full size if they like it. That might be the reason but as you have said, if the brand is little known I am more wary too. Sometimes, you get a gem, but other times, its likely to just be a dud.
xin says
iโd save up to buy 1 item that i like instead of all these โsurprisesโ. LOL i can forsee myself accumulating the boxes on the floor without using any of the stuff from the box! **and erm RM90 is pretty steep for surprises even tho it has a full size ๐
Paris B says
RM90 isnโt steep laโฆ you get a full size lipstick woh ๐ After all the other brand is already pricing their sample box at RM60 ๐ But heck, Iโd rather just go and buy that lipstick LOL!!
Renee says
Nice post! I am kinda over them although at one point I really did like them. After awhile, you end up with so many samples for the most random things and it seems like a waste of money. Unless of course, BEAUTY bloggers made their own boxes, then it would be awesome. ๐
xx Renee
makeupmag says
*like* this idea! ๐
Paris B says
yep! Its the randomness that gets to me. Those who subscribe will be beauty buffs who already have a set skincare/makeup regime and there isnโt much you can do in that 1 month of trying a sample. I would personally save the money and buy something nice instead ๐ Beauty blogger boxes are of course more fun because we know what we want and possibly what ppl will like ๐
Stacey says
i subscribed to the bella box for two months and i didnโt use any of the stuff in the box. thatโs SGD30 down the drain. i have since cancelled the subsciption. haha I should have used it to buy the dior lippy or subscribe to your hypothetical box! ๐
Paris B says
Yikes! That is a waste ๐ I know of friends who subscribe to the Bellabox too and seem quite happy with it. Maybe the contents suited them ๐ Well, lesson learned! ๐
plue says
i see Estee Lauder ANR and Kiehlโs MRC popping up in the girlโs beauty boxes. I really need to start using mine soon! i inherited mine from a friend which sadly MRC did nothing for her.
Paris B says
Yep! They are both excellent stuff especially used together!
Swati says
hahaโฆthat was fun ๐ for once even I thought you might have started on this and frankly, you would have an edge on the companies ๐ guess, all the products you chose were great but unfortunately, no beauty box really caters that way. even I feel beauty boxes are useless waste of money. and, you never know if you recieve something which you will never use!!! I would rather invest in a luxury product or one item per month ๐
Paris B says
Haha it was fun right? Think a few people got conned though ๐ I have to agree with you. Few, if any beauty boxes will have products that will appeal to everyone. The worst is getting a perceived high end product sample but knowing that it will break you out. Now, that sucks because thatโs all that value wasted!
Rahainah says
I love beauty boxes and in fact Iโm subscribed to one. Currently I have 4 boxes already. I love the surprise and the products they included that are although some unknown brands, but when giving them a try, they really caught me by surprise! ๐
And given that your hypothetical beauty box offers luxurious name brands, I would definitely subscribe although RM90 is steep I say. But hey, if every month I get ALL luxurious products and not some unknown brands, yeah, then RM90 is not a problem ๐
Paris B says
LOL yeah RM90 is definitely steep and was intentionally so because my only other local โcompetitorโ is doing it at RM60 ๐ But still, its hypothetical so any price goes eh? ๐ Glad you are enjoying your subscriptions though. Its a nice way to learn about new and different brands and products. The bummer would be if you do like it and then donโt know where to get it LOL!
makeupmag says
Dear My Women Stuff,
I love this box!
How may I subscribe to this box? How can I send you payment? When is the earliest you can send it out? Could I subscribe just for 3 months? I live in Singapore; do I have to pay for extra postage?
๐
Paris B says
Dear Makeupmag, yes! We will ship to Singapore and there is an extra RM10 charge. Please send payment via paypal to whatahoax[at]gmail.com ๐
Sze Ling says
As soon as I saw the title I knew youโre going to include the Melvita spary and Estee ANR. LOL. ๐
Paris B says
Ahhh clearly you know me too well! ๐
Jyoan says
Itโs insanely expensive! haha, but consider the contents of your blog, I think I just may because like you say, a Dior Addict Extreme is already RM98. So I trust your taste if every box is handpicked by you!
I would so love to try the Blanchir Conditioner, and Estee Lauder Night Repair.
Hmmm, my beauty box would probably be a mixture of drugstore and high-end and cost about SGD20-30? haha. Havenโt thought about this before.
I just signed up for one two week back though I said I never, as my birthday is in June, and I wanted to receive a surprise parcel from myself for my birthday.
Paris B says
Yeah I figured if people were willing to pay RM60/box for samples, they could very well pay RM90 and get a full size Dior lipstick ๐ I love my Blanchir Make Off Conditioner. Plan to pick up another bottle when thereโs a sale on and I just realized that my EL ANR is almost finished! How did I never notice it before?! ๐ I hope you like the box you picked up โ it would most certainly be fun to receive a surprise box on your birthday! ๐
