New! Revlon Photoready Airbrush Mousse Makeup foundation and Photoready Primer

May 4, 2012 Paris B 49 Comments

There’s something new on the shelves from Revlon – ok 2 new somethings – a mousse foundation and a primer. You should start seeing it roll out on shelves starting from the month of May.

revlon photoready airbrush mousse foundation

The Revlon Photoready Airbrush Mousse makeup foundation is available locally in 4 shades, with 030 Nude being the lightest available here. The texture is that of a mousse. Literally! You squeeze the nozzle, and the mousse foams out and you then use this mousse to apply to your skin. It actually reminded me of the Shu Uemura UV Underbase mousse, except that this is a foundation while the Shu Uemura one is a primer.

The concept behind the Revlon Photoready Airbrush mousse foundation is that it is light as air and similarly sits on your skin as light as air. This mousse foundation sits together with the Revlon Photoready line, and co-exists alongside the Photoready liquid foundation.

Other than 030 Nude the other shades featured here are not available in Malaysia at time of writing

The Photoready line is supposed to offer good coverage so your skin looks smooth under any sort of lighting – so important when taking photos. As a result, there is no SPF in this foundation, because generally, SPF isn’t photo and flash friendly. You can end up with a white looking face as a result.

We were told that you can apply this mousse foundation either using your hands, or using a foundation brush or sponge. However, you are advised to dab this on on your skin for best results. Dab it on, then quickly blend it in because it can dry quite quickly – as mousse does.

The other new item to keep a look out for is the Photoready Primer.

photoready perfecting primer

The Photoready Primer comes in 2 shades – 001 (Perfecting Primer) and 002 (Color Correcting Primer). The Perfecting Primer is white and is transparent when applied on skin. The Color Correcting Primer has a pink/lilac tint and serves its purpose to colour correct and brighten dull skin.

These Revlon primers contain photochromatic pigments that bend, reflect and diffuse light and not only act as a primer, but also helps minimise skin flaws in any light and (here’s the best part) are oil-free, fragrance-free, talc-free and paraben-free.

I was told by the Australian Revlon trainer that the Revlon Photoready Primers are huge bestsellers in Australia where they quite literally fly off the shelves every time they are stocked. Must be quite something eh?

You should start seeing these new products on shelves already.

Does either product catch your fancy? They are already available elsewhere in the world so if you have tried them, please feel free to share your experiences using them, if you have. I will of course, bring you an in-depth review in time to come. Let’s see if they live up to their claims, yes? 😉

I love the light mousse feel of it. I use Shell 020 and I think I was told it’s not available in Malaysia – it’s quite a shame, I think. And, the great thing about this is that you need only a very tiny blob to cover your entire face. The Shu mousse primer requires about a golf ball size. For the Revlon foundation, I think a tiny blob is more than enough because it has a little stretch to it. Unfortunately, this breaks me out no tomorrow so Tine’s inherited mine 😀

Yup we don’t get Shell here. I have used it and I find it gives a white cast and is oily 🙁 have to agree about just how little we need.

Hmmm, the primer sounds good. A little bit like wearing purple Bb cream minus the touted healing properties. There almost no colour correcting primers from drugstore brands… Maybe sooner or later they will come out with green one too.

I am more interested in the cream blush from photoready line. Already, people say those are good!

Ooh Photoready cream blushes?! That’s new to me. I’ll look it up 🙂 The only drugstore colour correcting bases I know of are tinted sunscreens from Loreal and Neutrogena. I was a huge fan of the Loreal one 🙂

Supposedly, there are 3 shades of Photoready creme blushes, and the one called Pinch is so loved. No idea if those will ever, ever reach Asia, because Singapore was slow to get Photoready foundation. And I have not heard/read that this airbrush mousse is going to come at all. The Revlon line here is very, very old and outdated… … why? T_T sometimes I see Revlon counters with dust. L’oreal is much more pushy with us. haha.

I find it so odd that we’re ahead on the mousse foundation thing! I actually like a lot of Revlon cosmetics and I am always a little sad that they never get the attention they deserve. I’ve put in a query about the cream blushes and will see if they are coming in 🙂

i’m sitting on the fence on these. By far, i’m not impressed with the she uemura mousse bb base. I bought a bottle last year and it’s hardly used. Dries too fast and even if i did a small area as fast as i could to blend it, and even if it looks evenly blended etc, it felt sticky and patchy in the later part of the day. Might be due to our everyday humid weather? Hates it. I know there are many fans out there. But it just doesn’t suits me as much as i try to make it work. And i’m quite ‘traumatized’ by the experience to consider other brands as well. 🙂 I’ll wait and see more reviews.

I’m not a fan of the Shu one either because I found it too drying for me. This doesn’t dry as quickly as the Shu one so blending is easier. Am curious to see how people find it too. I don’t read a lot of reviews on it so maybe it’s not that popular or too new 😉

Dare I admit that I’m an Aussie and I haven’t heard of the primer? (Although it does sound very good, and I have only been listening for Revlon Lip Butters of late).
I like the sound of the mousse foundation though!

I never use a mousse foundation before. This one looks interesting though. But I’m more interested with the primer. But my dior primer is like 3/4 full. I still have a looooong way to go to finish it. >.< Oh, and it's cheap too. If it's as good as it claims, maybe I'll give it a try, considering the price is pocket-friendly! Looking forward for your review. ^^

I’ve swatched the mousse foundation before, and the glitter particles were even more apparent than the liqiud Photoready foundation. As for color, methinks the 2nd shade fits me rather well though.

I did notice the shimmer too but on my skin, I didn’t notice that it was shiny and shimmery. Pretty much how I found the liquid foundation too so I doesn’t bug me, but my shade isn’t available here which does!

think i’ll be giving the foundation a miss because somehow revlon’s foundations (powder or not) always turn up orange on me! i’m pretty curious about the primers though, because i haven’t seen any drugstore primer that’s of comparable quality to the higher priced brands. can’t wait for your awesome review as usual 😉

Sorry to butt in here, but i managed to get my very itchy hands on a bottle of thier 001 Perfecting Primer at KLCC Watson last weekend.
Have been using it for a week & am glad to report that it does offer quite good oil control. I have combi skin & usually my foundation doesnt last the whole day even in an air-con office (blame it on hand-to-face syndrome) but with this primer, it makes my foundation last longer- definitely longer than any other primers i have used thus far. 🙂
But it is flying off the shelves, there were 2 bottles when i saw & i bought 1, when i went back to get another after paying, it was gone…
