Hmm… quite a grand cafe this is…
Happy Monday morning, Ladies (and any gents lurking)! missed having this open no-holds barred chit chat sessions and have been meaning to have one for the longest time! I can’t believe that I last held one nearly 6 months ago. Yeah, MWS Cafe has been closed for a while, but we’re open and back in business again today! Renovations mean we now have a chandelier! My, aren’t we posh 😛
I’m working from home today (yay!) and what better way to jazz up a Monday morning than to have a nosey peek into your lives 😉 For the new and uninitiated, MWS Open Cafe is an open post where you can talk about anything in the comments, ask a question (beauty related or not, its up to you!), help answer a question, chat amongst yourselves and basically loosen up. It wouldn’t be possible to actually meet every single one of you for coffee and biscuits so we have to do this virtually for now.
I keep the comments box open for about 24 hours where I’ll answer any questions you may have, or even lend a listening ear if you have something you want to rant about (nothing too flammable so discuss within reason… but I guess you are all adult enough to know that 😉 )
So, onto the comments! 😀
I don’t know about you, but 2012 seems to have simply FLOWN by. I can’t believe its almost the end of May already and that means that we’ve come to the halfway mark of the year.
Have you done what you’ve set out to do? I’m not sure I have. I seem to be just going on one day at a time, and its starting to feel a little bit too routine. I need to break out and do something different.
What is a cafe without desserts?
Question is, what? Hmm… I think I’ll have an affogato while I decide.
Your turn. No set topic today – just talk about whatever’s on your mind this morning. Share your weekend, ask a question you’ve been wanting an answer to, share your concerns… someone out there maybe able to help.
Have some coffee and dessert while you’re at it. Open Cafe days are always fun, interactive and sometimes, insightful! 🙂

Cafe is closed! Thank you for dropping by to chat, everyone. See you at the next session! 😀

Hi Paris, I saw ur latest reply in my email but it’s not appeared on the website yet. So I’ll leave my comment here. I’ll try your suggestion with the powder. Thanks! 🙂
About blog sales, some bloggers state clearly that they do not sell PR-sponsored products. Others state that all sale items were bought with their own funds. On blogs and makeupalley, the sellers show pictures of actual sale items, usage is stated and you can see it in the pix. Some feedback can be given on mua. Some bloggers honour time-stamps ie. who asked first, others work on payment-first. It’s really down to the individual’s preference, and I respect that.
Paris B says
Well a blogger with integrity will never sell products provided by PR on any platform. The only problem, I’d say is that we will just never know. But still, have to take their words for it 😉 I’m all for blog sales but within reason I suppose.

Hi Paris! Just wanted to drop by to say hi. And I’m happy to report that I said no to theBalm’s Shady Lady sale the other day! I felt like I needed them, and I was a teensy bit sad that I had to miss the 3-for-1 deal, but my bank account was very happy 🙂
Paris B says
Hi Denise! 🙂 aww what a good girl you were! I’m to sure I could say no to a 3 for 1 deal! TheBalm does some nice products but you are also right to pass on them…. And save for something nicer! Have you got your eye on anything for now?
Denise says
Oh dear, I have my eye on quite a few items now, lol. Let’s see, I got a Chanel Rouge Coco for my mom last week. It’s the Hydrating Creme one in Destinee. I kinda bit the bullet and clicked buy!!! on Nordstrom since a) my boy used his cc and I’ll pay him in three months! and b) we got 13% cashback at eBates. I was kinda impulsive on the shade and finish but I hope my mom likes it. It’s my first luxury brand present for her (even though it’s just a lipstick and not a purse!) and I really think I should stop rambling now 🙂
Paris B says
I think that’s a very sweet gift and I’m sure you mum will love the gift, regardless of shade! I still am not much of a Chanel Rouge Coco fan but have you taken a look at the Rouge Allure Velvet? I believe that’s what they are called, the matte ones. I thought it would be drying and awful but it was quite nice! 🙂

Hi Paris. Hope you’re not too tired at this hour. If you are, can postpone to another time.
I have a basic makeup question. When I apply moisturizer/sunscreen (bare-faced day), I’d like to set it with loose finishing powder. But I can’t get the powder to go on smoothly, whether with brush/puff/sponge. Maybe I’m too heavy handed? Should I pat lightly with a tissue, or go over it with a clean sponge to remove residue? This is before dusting with the powder. Reason: I want to use up my loose powders. ^.^
About blogging, I’ve been blog-surfing a lot lately and noticed that bloggers have different policies regarding blog sales. I wondered what your view or policy on blog sales is. Thank you..and good night. 🙂
Paris B says
I’m actually watching Telly so no, not asleep yet 🙂 I live the tablet for quick notes like this! As for your makeup question, I think I know what you mean. Sometimes, powders can apply patchily on sunscreen, which I think is sometimes due to the texture. A suggestion is to let the sunscreen or moisturizer set first, before going over with the powder. A brush usually works better for me or a soft puff, not the thin ones you sometimes get. I find also that if you use a puff, ‘rolling’ it on is better than sweeping. If that made sense 😛
As for blog sales, yes I have also noticed a proliferation of them recently. I personally wouldn’t sell my items on my blog, mainly because of hassle. I prefer to just gift them. People are happy, I’m happy seeing them happy and it’s all good because it’s used anyway and I’m not likely to use them for whatever reason. Still, can’t fault anyone for wanting to recoup a bit of their costs although then maybe people shouldnt be buying so much to start with? Just a thought 😉 what do you think about blog sales?

What a fantastic little virtual ‘cafe’! You probably know I recently (two months ago, maybe?) started reading your blog so the MWS Cafe is foreign to me. Just got home from my second Monday in my first job (!) in an office that works really hard, but the trade off is a great colleagues and what promises to be rewarding experience … but I must say I miss being a uni student very, very much!
This comment is a bit spineless but just dropping in to share how much I enjoy your reviews and blog posts. Always so informative, great photos, easy-to-navigate layout! You’ve definitely pointed me in the direction of some wonderful items (cleansing oil and the RMK Pressed Powder N among others) and made me super curious about others (I eagerly await the posts on your beauty kit and LMDB Kaleidoscopes)! Have you used the RMK Cleansing Oil / RMK Kaleidoscopes? What did you think of them? 🙂 I’m happy to wait for your reviews if you prefer not to say!
And if it’s not too prying to ask, what work do you do? I hope this isn’t too late to be commenting!
Paris B says
Hello Sher Reen and welcome to our cafe! Hehe… Its a fun way to just kick back and listen to you all for a while instead of just me talking all the time 🙂 it’s great to know you’re in a job now, and it sounds like you are in good company. It’s alright to work hard when young, and then relax later in life after you’ve ‘made it’ 😉 I prefer not to discuss my work, it’s not very exciting 😉
Thank you so much for your support and I’m glad to know you have enjoyed your time here at MWS! I am supposed to give the RMK cleansing oil a try, thanks for reminding me! Skin has been acting up lately so I haven’t been playing around too much. And the LMDB kaleidoscopes too! Haven’t had a chance to mess with them due to life being all busy and exciting these couple of weeks but I’ll be giving them a go very soon. Hope they live up to the hype!
Sher Reen says
That’s completely cool! I wonder a lot about the people behind the blogs I read, perhaps too much 😀 And I made a vow to put in the hard yards now – hopefully there’ll be rewards to reap from that later on 🙂
Looking forward to the reviews, and the ones that lead up to it! And I hope your skin calms down soon as life slowly hopefully slows down a little. Take some time out to have a rest and relax when you can! 😀
Paris B says
Haha there are loads of very interesting people out there, that’s for sure 🙂 I just decided to keep private life private, as it were. Too much out there already hehe… 🙂
I’m very sure your hard work now will pay off. That you have nice colleagues now will be very good for development, because theres nothing worse than starting a new job and having everyone eyeball you 😛
Life should start calming down now. Hope to get away soon for a short break – need to recharge those batteries!

Hi Paris,
I hope it’s not too late to catch a cuppa tea at your cafe. 😉
I have a quick question if you don’t mind. I was wondering if you could give some suggestions as to what beauty stuff that would be good to stock up on while in UK? My parents will be there for a holiday and have kindly offered to indulge me and bring me back goodies that we can’t find here in Msia. I was thinking maybe a lipstick queen lippie, any other suggestions? 🙂
Paris B says
Hello hello Rynx! just slipping in the door are we? 😉 I actually haven’t tried any lipstick queen lipsticks yet, but depending on what you’re looking for, the Sleek Makeup stuff aren’t bad. Also, Pantene Aqua Light shampoo and conditioner lol! I know right? So random 😛 I love it and we can’t get it here (I’m assuming you are from Malaysia? If not, sorry for being presumptuous :P) otherwise, Lush is always interesting – I like Happy Hippy shower gel! Diptyque fragrances and candles are cheaper there and Jo Malone perfumes! Erm Tom Ford beauty if budget allows, and Suqqu? Hehe… Loads of stuff to get from the uk. I suggest taking a look at the Selfridges website, Boots and Superdrug. You’ll go nuts!
