New Coach Kristin Collection : Sparking a renewed interest in Coach

February 28, 2010 Paris B 53 Comments

New Coach Kristin Collection

Coach is a brand I’ve not spared a 2nd glance at for a long time. I was not terribly impressed with their latest designs or quality and needless to say, the super marked up prices here. But when the new Coach Kristin Collection landed in my mailbox, I did not only give it a 2nd glance, I went to check out the whole collection online and I found myself impressed.

The Kristin collection is something I can associate with Coach – the clean simple lines and classic designs that was what got me into Coach bags in the first place. I do have one caveat. My interest lies solely in the leather bags which come in one plain colour and gold or silver hardware, and look classic and elegant. The monogram canvas is still sadly getting two thumbs down from me.

Here are some of my favourite designs from the new Coach Kristin collection.

I am partial to hobo bags and the Kristin Leather Hobo (US$298) is a lovely simple design in some great colors. The yellow colour in fact, resembles a Coach hobo I own! The difference is that mine has no pocket on the front and does not come with a separate strap but has a strap that can be converted to a long one to carry the bag cross body. Also comes in a larger size.

Are you tossing oranges for Chap Goh Meh?

February 27, 2010 Paris B 6 Comments

February is a short month made even shorter by the Chinese New Year festivities which end tomorrow on Chap Goh Meh or the 15th day of the Lunar Month.

Traditionally, on Chap Goh Meh, unmarried men and women will throw mandarin oranges into the river with a wish to find their life partner.

So, while I go hunt up a spare mandarin orange to throw into the nearest large body of water available (which is incidentally the swimming pool – I wonder if that will work :P) please take a look at what some of my other beauty blogging friends have been on about in February :-

  • DIY your own mirrored blotter case – Soloverly
  • Chartreuse Taupe and Purple eye look : Who’d have thought it possible to look that good – Skindeco
  • Picking up good vibrations with the Neutrogena Wave – Red Luscious Lips
  • Try Maybelline Mineral foundation for inexpensive foundation that works – AskMeWhats

While I’m at it, also read Karen’s 5 days of Chanel Rouge Coco lipstick starting with Mademoiselle (which I am craving along with Cambon). The lady’s a natural wit, model and gorgeous to boot!

Enjoy the weekend and if you are tossing oranges, don’t go falling into the water – unless you can swim and that cute guy who caught your eye is on hand to save you 😉

Skinz Infinite Eye Revive Therapy – Eye cream with UV Protection

February 26, 2010 Paris B 27 Comments

We all know about putting sunscreen on the face but the perennial question that arises is always – is there sunscreen for the eyes?

My answer when asked is usually “I don’t know” – there aren’t many sunscreens with texture light enough for the eyes, nor are there many eye creams with SPF or UV protection.

So, when I come across one, I thought I’d better tell you about it 🙂

Skinz Infinite Eye Revive Therapy is its name.

Where do you find it? At major pharmacies at a wallet friendly price of RM45.90/15ml! Now isn’t that just fantabulous? 😀

The Eye Revive Therapy is an eye cream with “natural sunscreen derived from plant sources to protect the eye contour against harsh UV rays“. Fascinating. I googled one of the main ingredients – porphyra umbilicalis extract and found that is an extract of a type of seaweed/algae that can help protect against UV rays. But let’s just say that Biology was not one of my best subjects in school so I can’t tell you just how effective it is 😛 Actually it was but we didn’t study UV lights and seaweed 😛

Touches de Siam : A little bit of Thai Massage in Bangsar Kuala Lumpur

February 26, 2010 Paris B 19 Comments

Sawadee ka!

That’s how they say “Welcome” or “Hello” in Thai. I recently went for a Thai massage at one of the regular places I go to and realised I’d never told you about it – so after sneaking some photos during my most recent session, here it is 🙂

Touches de Siam Thai Traditional Massage @ Bangsar

Touches de Siam the place I go to in Jalan Telawi, Bangsar Kuala Lumpur. I believe it is now part of a chain of Thai massage centers under the Thai Odyssey brand but it was the first to be set up I believe. I’ve been going there on and off since they opened quite a few years ago whenever I feel like a bit of Thai massage and do not want to fly all the way to Bangkok for it 😛

Part of the reason I go to Touches de Siam is because I found that their Thai traditional massage was quite “authentic” in that it was similar to what I had in Bangkok. Also, the prices weren’t all that insanely expensive compared to aromatherapy massages. Granted, it is still substantially more expensive than in Bangkok where I have paid about RM35 for a 2 hour massage, compared to RM98/2 hours at Touches de Siam. But I get a pretty good massage and I think that the price isn’t all that bad considering I’d have to factor in airline costs if I want to pay RM35/2 hours 😛

What is a Thai Traditional Massage?

Thai traditional massages are where the masseuse massages your muscles using the various parts of their body to assert pressure, and stretching your muscles as they go. It can sometimes be painful if you aren’t used to strong pressure so be sure to let your masseuse know if you feel pain.

How best to enjoy a Thai Traditional massage?

The best way to enjoy a Thai Traditional massage is to go limp and let the masseuse manoeuvre your limbs any way they want. This way, you will not feel pain if you resist the movements and there is better “flow”. I have found that the masseuses at Touches de Siam seem to know what they are doing, so I don’t end up feeling bruised after a session. In Bangkok or even in other centers, I’ve actually felt uncomfortable and bruised after the massage.
