Are you tossing oranges for Chap Goh Meh?

February 27, 2010 Paris B 6 Comments

February is a short month made even shorter by the Chinese New Year festivities which end tomorrow on Chap Goh Meh or the 15th day of the Lunar Month.

Traditionally, on Chap Goh Meh, unmarried men and women will throw mandarin oranges into the river with a wish to find their life partner.

So, while I go hunt up a spare mandarin orange to throw into the nearest large body of water available (which is incidentally the swimming pool – I wonder if that will work :P) please take a look at what some of my other beauty blogging friends have been on about in February :-

  • DIY your own mirrored blotter case – Soloverly
  • Chartreuse Taupe and Purple eye look : Who’d have thought it possible to look that good – Skindeco
  • Picking up good vibrations with the Neutrogena Wave – Red Luscious Lips
  • Try Maybelline Mineral foundation for inexpensive foundation that works – AskMeWhats

While I’m at it, also read Karen’s 5 days of Chanel Rouge Coco lipstick starting with Mademoiselle (which I am craving along with Cambon). The lady’s a natural wit, model and gorgeous to boot!

Enjoy the weekend and if you are tossing oranges, don’t go falling into the water – unless you can swim and that cute guy who caught your eye is on hand to save you 😉

well in Beijing, yesterday night chap goh mei was celebrated with lots of fireworks and ppl eating Yuan Xiao or Tang Yuan. There were plenty of those sold everywhere. Tonight im gonna be tasting em myself coz my fren invited me along. However he said that here there is no throwing oranges into the “nearest large body of water” though. hahaha.

Shoot! I missed it! Does it apply if I throw oranges not on that particular day? 🙂

Will never forget when I was dating this guy some years back and his younger sister (who was a couple of years older than me) INSISTED on throwing oranges into Sg Klang on Chap Goh Meh. Up till that point, I’d not known anyone who actually did that. Just thought it was something people did in ancient China.

Think Wanita MCA should have taken some advantage of this orange throwing activity and organised one of their get-togethers!

I think she did! I wasn’t very supportive. I think I said something like, “You know… coconut is better because will float and surely someone will pick it up. Bigger space to write message summore. Orange may sink and just wasted your effort.”
