Do you ever finish anything? Here’s my challenge

May 19, 2009 Paris B 82 Comments

So, you buy and you buy but do you ever finish anything? I know some people are wondering about that but are (maybe) too polite to ask šŸ˜›

My answer is yes, I do.

My latest product to hit pan and to find its way out of my stash and into my trash is my Kanebo Revue 2way powder foundation and Revlon Age-defying foundation. I love them both and they work a treat for me with medium coverage and perfect color match to my skin. They are both my to-go foundation that I reach for without thinking. In fact, this is my 2nd or is it 3rd similar Revue foundation! I’m so sad that Kanebo discontinued Revue šŸ™ I could still buy it from existing stock I know, but I’m moving on to try other stuff for a while.

I also finish lipstick and mascara in the color cosmetics department. The latest to get binned was the Guerlain le 2 brush mascara – it was time *sob sob* My skincare gets replenished regularly as well as bath and body products.

I challenge you!

Color products are harder to finish up though – you’d have to use one colour every single day to be able to make a decent dent in them. Hence my experiment/ challenge… if you’d like to join me šŸ˜‰

Here’s a barely used Definite Cosmetics Party Eyeshadow in Twist n Shout and Cargo blush in  The Big Easy.

Definite Twist n Shout Cargo The Big Easy

My mission is to use these and ONLY these 2 products every single day that I have makeup on for 1 month. That’s at least 20 days worth of usage. I’ll revisit again after 1 month to show how much a dent I have made into both products. I will of course mix the eyeshadow with other colors but I will use this particular color every single day.

Fun eh? šŸ™‚ If you’d like to participate in this challenge or experiment, feel free to leave me a comment telling me what item you plan to stick to for a month – you don’t have to be as strict as I am – and when I post my update in a month’s time, you can come by and tell me how your own personal challenge went. You can also post on your blog if you like.

[note]

Update: Despite the confusion and scepticism, the idea behind this challenge is NOT to finish up your color makeup in a month – its impossible unless its already on its last legs. The idea is to see how much a dent one can make in a product with a months constant use.

[/note]

Come on, it’ll be fun to see how innovative one can be with one eyeshadow and one blush for a whole month! LOL…

Stay beautiful… and creative!

I did! I successfully finish my Benefit Some Kinda Gorgeous Deep, I’m in my second Deep now.

Besides that, I always finish my pressed powders, unless it broke.

Great idea, PB! So far I only ever hit pan on skin care, foundation, loose powder and mascara. Yes, I do agree that colored makeup especially e/s taking forever to finish yet if it is used regularly, even in a month you can notice quite a dent šŸ™‚ That’s what happened to my Maybelline gold nuggets palette during my previous semester. I had 8-AM class everyday and I was too lazy to play around with colors, I always grabbed the same palette and I hit pan on the e/s palette within 3 months lol
Gonna join the challenge though šŸ˜€ I will post up something about this challenge later on my blog ^^

      Hi Shuu

3 months is a pretty decent time to hit pan on anything. Its happened to me too with a blush but I’d probably get so bored if I had to run 3 months with 1 blush hehe… Thanks for taking part and for posting about it.

This is so interesting! I have never, and I mean never, finished any of my make-up before… most of the time I have to bin it when it reaches expiry date. Hmm… I shall try this!

      Hi Jojoba

Haha… Its why I only chose 1 eyeshadow that I know I can mix and match. The blush is good to go so that’s a consolation. The thing is that its easy to finish up stuff if you only have that one or two but it gets harder when you start accumulating heh…

I’ve been using the same 3 Jane blushes for 3 years, almost daily and I haven’t even seen the pan on any of them!!!

Maybe it had to do with using a fiber optic brush. But if I can’t even finish any of them, I can’t buy new ones =[

      Hi yanmonster

Using a fiber optic brush definitely picks up less color so you use up less. That’s a great resolve not to buy if you don’t finish.

I’ve finished a whole MAC Mineral finish compact to the core before! I always finish my eyeliners but not mascaras and blushes.

For blusher I got no problemo, I’ve been sticking to CyberColor puff blusher in Rosy Tan hue for quite some time. Shockingly it lasted until now and I figure will last for another 3 mths with daily use. The more challenging part is to stick to the same lippy and eyeshadow. I have chosen 2 e/s color – light green and cool blue for this challenge. For lippy *gasp* I’l’ pass. lol

I’m skipping lippies too because I can always finish up lipsticks! Thanks for joining in the fun

Sounds fun! I’ve been trying to get into this exact habit ever since I read an article in Self Mag (YEARS ago) that French women tend to stick to the same make-up line-up; the advantage being that it takes less time, costs less in terms of products, and helps create a signature look.

I’ve got a good everyday eyeshadow that is getting close to its expiration date, so maybe a month will finish it off. Only problem is… I’m a little tired of it already. It’s a very natural looking gold-pink, and everywhere I go the ads are flaunting crazy-bright colors for spring/summer. But if you can do it, I’ll bet I can!

I finished all my makeup bases, but for makeup colors?! Hmmm…usually I tossed them away after they cracked
