Saturday Steals and Deals #2

February 28, 2009 Paris B 2 Comments

I looked around online and found a couple of deals and steals that I thought would be useful for us to take note of.

Free Shipping on Yuan Soap at Pattybelle

For the month of March 2009 Pattybelle is offering free shipping for all purchases of Yuan Soap from her store. Since Pattybelle sends packages by courier service you are assured of quick service and better handling than the regular postal service. Go to www.pattybelle.com for your Yuan Soap fix!

Also there are some new Limited Edition Yuan soap sets at a special discounted price of RM128.

Are you enjoying your Saturday? I’m off to meet some friends for lunch of roast duck and roast goose in the heart of the city! It promises to be a lipsmacking and funfilled lunch. 🙂

Stay beautiful!

Bobbi Brown Platinum Pink Shimmerbrick

February 27, 2009 Paris B 15 Comments

I used to have a couple of Bobbi Brown’s Shimmerbricks. They were nice but there is only so much shimmer a girl can take and only so much shimmer you would apply on a daily basis. So I stopped at 2.

However, the new Bobbi Brown Platinum Pink Shimmerbrick (link) has made me do a double take.

Bobbi Brown Platinum Pink shimmerbrick

This limited edition Platinum Pink Shimmerbrick has five color bars to light up the face -soft pink, platinum, bright pink, golden coral and rose. I think this one trumps all the rest in terms of prettiness factor.

It looks like a highlighter, rather like the Meteorites popularized by Guerlain. I see the same sort of colours. However, as Bobbi Brown shimmerbricks tend to be very shimmery on the skin, I am wondering how this will perform as an all over highlighter. I used to use my shimmerbricks only on my cheekbones. The colours can also be used for eyes so I reckon its quite useful.

Still, I will be checking it out when it comes here to Malaysia. Its already out in the USA and retails for US$40. Bobbi Brown shimmerbricks used to retail here for RM135 but do let me know if the price has gone up because its been a while since I checked them out 🙂

Have a great weekend ahead!

Stay beautiful,

Review: L’oreal Elseve Damage Care Deep Repairing Mask

February 26, 2009 Paris B 30 Comments

Ever since I changed my shampoo to some strange brand that according to my hairdresser does not require a conditioner, I have not been using one. It doesn’t kill my hair or dry it out unduly so I was not too fussed. However, a few months ago I was given a L’oreal Elseve Damage Care hair mask and so I decided to test it out.

L'oreal Elseve Damage Care Deep Repairing Mask

The L’oreal Elseve Damage Care Deep Repairing Mask comes in a bright yellow tub that cheers up my bathroom to no end. The paste is white and thick and chockful of silicones so it is slippery! It also has a strong sweet scent that was cloying initially.

You can read about this product on the Malaysian website (link) or in English, on the UK website (link). For some reason, in the UK Elseve is known as Elvive. L’oreal does this a lot – naming the same thing different names in different countries which confuses us all to no end. I know not why except maybe its to do with how a name or item is perceived in each country.

The concept behind the Elseve Damage Care series is to repair damaged hair with a replica of hair’s natural ceramides. The hair mask is designed to intensify this hair repair and promises to leave your hair soft and silky.

But does it?

Review: Stila Precious Pearl eyeshadow palette

February 25, 2009 Paris B 30 Comments

Ok, so the honeymoon period for the Stila Precious Pearl eyeshadow palette is over and its been defiled by my fat fingers 🙂 “And for the better too!” I can hear you cry because we now have swatches (picture taken with muted flash to show off shimmer).

Stila Precious Pearl palette

The Stila Precious Pearl palette is Stila’s limited edition offering for Spring 2009. I personally like the bright colours because I’m like that. However if you are just starting to experiment with colour, this might be a good palette too because you get a whole bunch of colours to play with.

What is nice about the Precious Pearl palette is the colour variety and pigment. The colours are very soft as befits Stila eyeshadows, and nicely pigmented. The swatches are swiped twice and once on the skin – nice strong pigment. Oh and they are shimmery so if you dislike shimmer, you might not like this palette much. Still, its nice soft pearly shimmer not huge chunks of glitter. The colours contain real pearl – is that a good thing?

Some Pearl trivia: Pearl powder has been used in cosmetics and for medicinal purposes primarily in China and Japan and is supposed to enhance the complexion and promote skin whitening. Pearl powder also adds iridescence and shine to eyeshadow and powders.

How does the Stila Precious Pearl palette perform then?
